Walking from the store to your car is a public place.
One could even argue that the store is in public/is a public place.
You're now carrying bladed weapons that are illegal under current law, in public.
Seems like someone didn't think this law through.

Personally I'd argue that both the shop and the shop's car park are private property, and therefore you're allowed to carry bladed weapons around.
Not surprised, living in Boro.
Wait what no.
So criminal justice act 1988 reads as follows for determining a bladed article:
Assuming that you can be driving your car, with the items in it, and get arrested for it, that means you literally can't buy kitchen knives at the store and drive home with them. It makes ownership of something as simple as a sword illegal.
I knew the UK was strict on the matter, but seriously what the fuck.
There are stipulations to the law:
However they aren't exceptions, they are legal defenses. As in you are still arrested and then have to prove your innocence to the police in a fashion similar to homicide in self defense.
If it's in its packaging still (all knives sold in this country are packaged I believe) you wouldn't be arrested but you'd still need a good reason to have it.
