• Immigrants should "benefit the UK" and earn a minimum of £31,000
It's sad that an increasing number of countries are tightening their borders, especially Britain, seeing as we're supposed to be one of the biggest examples of multiculturalism. I say we send EDL and BNP members to Jupiter, and let motivated, well-intending immigrants to take their place in Britain.
We're not "supposed" to be anything. It's pretty clear that the current levels of immigration aren't sustainable so they have to introduce some kind of filter. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is only for people who want citizenship, not just those who want to work here. I have a friend who's been here most of his life but he isn't a citizen yet - it's very expensive to become one already. £800 just to take the test for example.

So the idea is to make sure that only the people actually capable of making a sizeable amount of money come here, or else they're kicked out? Seems a bit like one of those things that seems a fairly decent measure at first, then someone (other than me) puts some thought into it and it turns out it'd be really, really bad. So I guess the most obvious problem would be people who are forced by their work to come here, but that work doesn't make 30K. Plus with all these people being forced to leave their low-paying jobs, there'll be a sudden rush of people taking up crappy jobs and not looking for better ones.
It's not exactly a new idea. Australia has been doing this for ages, but with different restrictions. Their country has hardly gone to shit as a result.
Why not just let the immigrants take up the jobs that need doing?
Because then there are no jobs for fucking people like me. Seriously I've lost out to about 2/3 of the jobs I've applied to because of the fuckload of immigrant applications, you should see them walking in and out of the jobcenter. I feel like a damn alien in my own country. Don't get me wrong here but it's a little annoying and I have nothing against them applying but most have near nothing in qualifications and yet still beat me at the game. I've gone through so much shit with my personal adviser and my CV has been through at least 35 changes and listed everything I know. So I kinda agree with what they are saying here, if you're qualified enough to earn that amount of money you should be able to come over and work over here for that specific job, kinda gives the vibe of Australia's immigration laws though.
Welfare is economic suicide and I'm really glad that first ideas of limiting it are coming through.
What kind of thought process is this? "Some folks down on their luck? Well fuck 'em, I ain't picking up the slack for no immigrants!"

I don't even know how people still need this pointing out any more. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline]
What kind of thought process is this? "Some folks down on their luck? Well fuck 'em, I ain't picking up the slack for no immigrants!"
To be honest in a huge amount of cases in the UK, it isn't so much that people are 'down on their luck' it's that they can't be bothered to keep a job, and would rather just stay at home off their head on MDMA watching their relatives on the Jeremy Kyle show.
useless jobs:
Line repairers and cable jointers have higher wages than research professionals? Am i missing something here? I'm going to tell you, this is not what the majority of people do with welfare.
Estonian.
Feel free to find a good reason to discredit Estonia, (didn't sign ACTA, freest and fastest internet in Europe, games for $20, no Mexicans) I'm only visiting, (I'm from the land of the free, you know, where they don't force immigrants to suck the governments cock for $50k before getting at chance to be with their family) a quick thread history search could have solved your problem buddy.

Legitimate problems with employment? Nah, they're just druggies. Totally.
Oversaturated jobs market and too many high-skilled jobs? Legitimate problems with employment? Nah, they're just druggies. Totally.
Did I say the majority? No. I said a large amount, which is the case. Think before you fucking post.
Did I say the majority? No. I said a large amount, which is the case. Think before you fucking post.
Yes, a claim you provided no source for and in which you described a caricature of a person. Think before you fucking post.
I think this is a step in the right direction, if a bit extreme. I'm sick of seeing endless amounts of immigrants (and Brits) sitting around on benefits, the less of them the better.
Not the government's fault you've got such a bad job, how about you quit working at McDonalds, get some qualifications and then get a real job?
McDonalds doesn't have too bad pay, my friend's brother is on a scheme to put him as a manager of a restaurant, and at 21, he's payed more than most teachers.
I'm sick of seeing endless amounts of immigrants (and Brits) sitting around on benefits, the less of them the better.
Anecdotal and hardly characteristic of welfare systems as a whole.
no Mexicans
Ruined it for me, I love Mexican Food.

You are an idiot. If you're wondering, the source for that is in your post history.
No they shouldn't earn that amount of money, end of story. What the fuck is wrong with this country. And I read it, I mean, I know we'll get the same and stuff. But I still think they don't deserve it, now we're going to get more flooded with foreigners and fewer jobs for everyone..
I'm not scared of foreigners? And I read it.
Xenophobia is not being scared of foreigners just like homophobia is not being scared of gay people. I doubt you did so I'll ask why shouldn't they earn that amount of money?
Xenophobia is not being scared of foreigners just like homophobia is not being scared of gay people. I doubt you did so I'll ask why shouldn't they earn that amount of money?
Xenophobia is defined as "an unreasonable fear of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange." And we need to sort out our own country's unemployment line first, not invite more foreigners over. And don't get all high and mighty thinking you know the shit, actually living in England gives you an insight, the news, going to town and seeing foreigners everywhere in shops, not "they do all the jobs english wouldn't dream of doing" they're all over cafe's, shops, everything. I just think we should sort out our own country first. I'm not saying all foreigners shouldn't be allowed, theres just too many of certain countries here, like Poles, Turks, they're everywhere, I rarely see an American.
Xenophobia is defined as "an unreasonable fear of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange." And we need to sort out our own country's unemployment line first, not invite more foreigners over.
So by definition you wouldn't consider someone who said "I hate all foreigners and they are assholes that take our jobs" xenophobic? See you didn't read the article because it's not inviting more foreigners over, it's saying foreigners need to earn at least 31k to be allowed to immigrate (which is ridiculous), so it's actually the opposite.
I may have misread. But sweet, they need to actually be worth something to come over now, good.
I don't need to link a source for every post I make, and I don't need to because I live in the fucking country and have already seen plenty of sources for that information. You are an idiot. If you're wondering, the source for that is in your post history.
You can't make a claim like 'the majority of people in my country do x action' based on just what you see in it. There's a reason statistics exist, and it isn't because of redundancy. If, for example, you assert that a lot of people on welfare/benefits are choosing to do so out of a sense of laziness and lack of desire to work, you have to substantiate that. It's like if I said, "hey, everyone in America sucks dicks!" and someone asked me where I'd seen it or how I knew it to be true and just went "eh fuck off, don't have to tell you prick". It'd be pretty ridiculous. [editline]2nd February 2012[/editline]
And we need to sort out our own country's unemployment line first, not invite more foreigners over. These proposals are almost sensible, however quite often in this country your salary doesn't justify the importance of your job. I work with my council and I know a lot of people who earn a hell of a lot less than that and do worthwhile jobs such as debt councillors, home support workers for the elderly and day relief workers for children who are serving as full time carers for their parents. The people who do these jobs barely earn over £20k in some cases while some of the do nothing "mid managers" mentioned in the article earn the magic salary specified by the government. People coming to a country should be assessed on how much they can contribute to society as a whole, not just on how much they can be taxed. Also the thread title is hilariously misleading. I'd like to show it to some Daily Mail readers and watch their heads explode.
I may have misread. But sweet, they need to actually be worth something to come over now, good.
One hell of a misreading considering the answer is in the first three lines. And I think it's a problem when immigrants have to be worth more than your own citizens.
Not the government's fault you've got such a bad job, how about you quit working at McDonalds, get some qualifications and then get a real job?
I work for the NHS thankyou very much, currently training as a Paramedic, my jobs as real as any.
