And guess what quite a few Windows 8 metro apps run on... Yes, that's right, Internet Explorer.
They run on IE10 though.
NOT MY PROBLEM
SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING.

Unless the tools i use specifically installs IE for those tools then i don't have IE at all. I've completely removed the program from my computer.
This is why I use Netscape Navigator
This is why I use Netscape Navigator
netscape? what are you some sort of scrub? Real men use sparkbrowser
They run on IE10 though.
... I'm genuinely curious why this is allowed. I mean, I know Windows 8 and metro is a whole plan to get IE as the top browser again, but haven't they been told not to bundle it close to the OS like that?
That's it I'm going back to using my dreamcast to browse the web.
I'm ultra-retro. I receive information via torch.

You don't have to use IE itself, you can use Firefox and Chrome, and Metro apps only run on IE if they're made to, it doesn't have to.
Doesn't affect the Linux build.
My Mom uses IE9 is she safe from this malware?
My Mom uses IE9 is she safe from this malware?
no
no
Well fuck...
So just wondering - considering the issue seems to only hit IE7 and 8 why even mention that Vista and Seven users are at risk? Considering if they have a legal copy they are bound to be on 9 by now. EDIT Article has really bad wording. Didn't notice IE9 mentioned for a pretty long bit.
Poison Ivy is so old, it prolly gets detected by any AV released within the last 2-3 years.

Metro apps won't have to use IE? What.
Guys does this effect IE version 1? I have to know for my windows 3.1 computer. thanks
The underlying OS uses IE, and IE is the only browser that'll run properly on Metro. Metro apps won't have to use IE? What.
The main start screen uses DirectUI as does other Metro bits. DirectUI has existed since XP, though wasn't used all that much until Vista onwards where most of the UI is now in DUI, including explorer, control panels, shell dialogs, etc. The only time it uses IE is when you make a HTML/JS application. You could use C++, VB.NET, C#, etc in which case it uses WPF and not IE/HTML.
Great. I guess I could use this as an excuse to finally move over to chrome. EDIT: Wait, I'm the only poster so far to be using IE? Wow.
It only affects people who are using XP. Honestly, if you're still using a computer with XP and don't know what you're doing (still using IE) you deserve it. [editline]18th September 2012[/editline]
Well fuck...
yes because IE9 doesn't work on XP which means she's on vista.
Thankfully I don't really use Internet Explorer at all, but this group of hackers needs to be somewhat obliterated (arrested and punished) before they find a way to attack Firefox.

At this point I'm going to officially deem myself as ignorant of Windows. I've lost all my knowledge post-XP.
