they wouldnt need to make any cuts to the defence budget if we created and maintained a military that suits our needs.

we're currently building 2 enormous aircraft carriers that have no aircraft at a cost of god knows how many billions of pounds to the taxpayer. one of which is getting mothballed straight off the bat. this is the sort of MoD we have and have had for decades. completely delusional as to what our position in the world is. we're not a colonial power anymore. we have no need to be able to project our military power globally.

christ, we could get rid of the planned upgrade of Trident and save ourselves £20 Billion right there, not counting the costs of running a nuclear deterrant.
