There are a lot of these here in Arizona. It's probably just the rich town I live in though.

When is the cheaper model supposed to go out?
When is the cheaper model supposed to go out?
Model X is next year, will be slightly cheaper than the Model S they say, and the Model E will be a few years down the road. By then Elon should have that battery factory he wants. Also Pickup trucks somewhere in there too. Elon wants to make a truck to compete with the Ford F-150.
saw a tesla roadster when i was in san fran in the summer. was pretty blown away. can't wait to see them over here - never seen one in the uk
Undoubtedly, yeah. America's just too dang big. Like, physically big. Teslas would rule for the daily commuter, but for somebody who lived out in the boondoggles or had to regularly drive extended distances, it would be a very inadequate choice of vehicle-- at least until we've expanded nationwide infrastructure for this kind of technology to the point where you can find a charge station for a quick battery swap without having to drive more than a few minutes out of your way.
I live in the boondoggles and I worked out that the Model S would work fine for me. It would have 50km to spare getting to the nearest public quick charger, then only another 200km from there to get to a city on the Trans-Canada highway which is fully covered by quick chargers, essentially allowing me to get anywhere in Canada. These aren't superchargers (they're the Sun Country Highway chargers) so I'd be spending a lot of time in hotels and they're not free to use, but it'd work.
This is still pending results for extreme winters though, I doubt in -30 I'd get it even close to its advertised range.

The battery is warmed/cooled to stay at the right temperature. Shouldn't be an issue. Probably a negligible amount of loss.

If he can compete with the F-150, that will be incredible.
I don't see as many on the east coast, but almost everyone who doesn't have something larger has an F-150 in the Midwest. They are so common that spare parts are borderline free.

60k isn't thaaaaat much money...
60k isn't thaaaaat much money...
It's something like 60-90k depending on the packages you choose. That's pretty difficult for most people, unless they REALLY want it, have nothing else on their plate, and happen to be a regular city commuter with a backup secondary car.
The base model is $78k and the top model is $120k. The prices on their site are very misleading as they include major tax deductions that you won't receive for a year.

That's not affordable for the average american with a home and family
The battery is warmed/cooled to stay at the right temperature. Shouldn't be an issue. Probably a negligible amount of loss.
Heating is massively inefficient. Huge power drain - just look at how much power a hair dryer uses. Trying to heat up a space as large as a car's interior will drain the batteries crazy fast.
Why have none of the big car manufacturers realised that you can make an electric or hybrid vehicle look like a nice car, not a washing machine with wheels?
Mercedes has their S-class (and I think E-class) lineup ready with hybrids

And they still look like cars and not part spaceships. They do, however still make some of these cars with V12's but yeah :v:
I saw a white Model S not too long ago on my way home from college. It is a pretty cool looking car.
I see these all over the place where I live in California, it's hard to drive anywhere and not see one. Also been in the Tesla dealership near my house, they really present their cars well.
I would do just about anything for one of these.
The perfect car in every possibly way.

I saw this on the front page, and was momentarily terrified that it was going to be "Tesla's Model S Recalled...".

Tesla has done a self recall of a certain production run of the Model S in the past because they found a structural bar was not as they wanted.
http://www.teslamotors.com/blog/partial-recall
Affected Model S owners will be contacted in the next few days and we will arrange for their car to be picked up, the bracket reinforced and the car returned to their possession. To be clear, the Model S does not need to be brought to our service center by the owner. Tesla will pick up the car at a location of the owner’s convenience, provide a Model S loaner if needed, perform the work and bring the car back to the owner a few hours later.
Apologies for the inconvenience,
Elon
I'd love to meet Elon Musk one day. I mean, just to sit down and talk about crazy ideas with him, feasible or even possible or not. That would be so a great experience.

Even if I had the money for it I wouldn't get it, I'd get another car :v:

Most of the other electrics are basically just regular cars with modified front ends for a more aerodynamic shape.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/MTKpc4V.jpg[/t]
The Volt technically isn't electric as it has a gas motor for fueling the batteries, but it shares a lot of design features with electric cars.
Why do they have to make it a really bright colour with a stupid bumper just to say it's ~different~ and ~electric~? It's like that electric Mercedes SLS, why did they have to make it neon green instead of normal?
I want a Tesla so fucking much
They're just so badass
Sweden is planning on making an electric car that's pretty much a Saab 9-3
Pretty much this but electric

No reason why they shouldn't.
Also, such hybrids are stupid. Just look at the Prius and how it's actually less "green" than normal petrol cars and doesn't give you THAT much of a MPG advantage.
Either go full electric or just leave the god damn V12 in there.
I'm starting to see them quite regularly in Texas now. Saw one just yesterday. I've even seen one heading out to nowhere on the way home from a road trip from San Antonio.
This is really interesting, because you can't officially buy a Tesla in Texas. Their fancy lack-of-dealer system is outlawed, which means you have to get the car out of state and bring it back.

I loved (and shared) their relief when the petrol version turned out to be faster. :v:
That said, I ask the same thing I asked before, why make it hideous green and paint the grille green too, which looks horrible, just to say "oh it's not a normal SLS, it's electric"? The blue version looks better but if they left the grille black it'd look even better, in my opinion.

At the Fiat dealership I saw maybe none in the "sport package" coloring.

The rims are hideous too.
I'd prefer an Abarth but that's just me :v:

I don't really either but it comes with the whole aerodynamic efficiency thing. It can't possibly help that much but most electrics like to focus on it anyway; it matters on a global level.
