Oh and up to HL2 and excluding HL 1, the stories were just as generic as Halo
So... Only half life two was as generic as halo? Okay. :sax:

There were other half life games, well, they were expansions. Blue Shift and Opposing Force.

"We'd love to see Halo as a television series," he said. "Look what HBO did with Band of Brothers or even Rome. Something like that would work because the Halo universe is so vast."
Oh god Band of Brothers-esqe Halo miniseries?
want
We had a pretty good discussion about this in the Halo Megathread awhile back. I think the consensus was that it'd work good if based on the novels and heavily kept consistent by the game's writers.
Halo is actually a great series to base a movie off of. Most games fall into one of three traps - having too little story (Super Mario Bros), having too much story (Advent Children), or having the misfortune to be directed by Uwe Boll. Halo has enough story for a two-hour movie, if you cut a few transitional scenes, but you won't be skipping huge chunks of story.
Most other movies people say would make great movies actually wouldn't. Half-Life 2 would make a terrible movie - there's just too much going on, the thing would have to be four hours long. It's even worse for games like Metal Gear, Zelda or Starcraft - there's just too much plot going on to squeeze into a single movie. Some games couldn't even be made into series. I once did some estimates - it takes approximately two seasons of TV episodes to match one disc of a standard PS1/PS2-era JRPG. Not feasible.

They aren't canon yet. Haven't been confirmed or denied. They aren't legit sources of info about half life yet.

Well, Gabe said that he'd like to do an OpFor sequel sometime, so I'd call it "probably, but not definitely, canon". Same for Blue Shift - Barney Calhoun as an actual unique character derives from there.
Decay, though, might not be canon. I suspect not, because it a) isn't well-known and b) isn't that good.
I think a movie of something along the lines of Reach would be pretty cool. That storyline made me :smith:
I'd like you to point to me another modern sci-fi movie that focuses on genocidal aliens fighting futuristic humans in massive space and ground battles.
Uh, Stargate?
Both their enemies, Ori and the Wraith are genocidal.
Oh and how could I forget the Goa'uld
Masterchief needs to be a huge badass for it to work
I loved the Halo live action commercials, if this movie is anything like them I would see it for sure.
Firstly, that's a pretty unfair comparison considering the HL2 story-arc hasn't been completed.
And secondly, where as the Half-Life 2 did have a generic storyline, it was much more compelling and the universe was much more fascinating.
Where as the Halo storyline was generic and a pretty boring experience, but that's not saying I wouldn't want a Halo movie or didn't enjoy the games.
I didn't think the halo games were a boring experience
The campaign of Halo 3 was great, an incredible soundtrack, some tense and furious action supplied with a compelling storyline and awesome cut scenes.
I actually wanted to the finish the game, and there was a great deal of back story and references of events from the previous games.
I don't mind that you think HL2 is a better game, that's purely subjective, but when people jump on the bandwagon and say how Halo is "generic" and "boring" it gets to me, because there is a hell of a lot of effort gone, and still going into the universe it's set in.
I can see from reading your post you've probably played the games, so you actually know what you're talking about
Personally I'm not a gamer myself, I got bored eventually and moved onto a more productive hobby. The reason I'm so defensive is because this series will always hold a place in my heart, as some of the best gaming memories I've ever had.
now excuse me while I go clean my extensive array of cortana figurines
Halo doesn't interest me at all, but a movie or TV series is something I might actually watch.
I wouldn't have much hope for a Halo movie. It's almost certainly doomed to become a "bro-vie".
But a Halo movie with a serious, gritty "Band of Brothers" feel would be excellent.

How would you feel about a band of bros? Basically five bros who play Halo, but then they decide to play guitar hero instead.

Actually, Rockband is more band-y.
As long as people die to the theme song I will be happy.
I like the idea of a movie based on the Halo universe, though i have a hard time imagining them using Master chief as the protagonist as he is faceless and therefore hard to relate to. My guess would be that it
is similar to the live-action sequences we have already seen and it would be focused on a small group of
soldiers doing their thing.

Quite a title.

Chief would have to be in it, in some way.
You cant have a Halo movie without him.
I loved Halo's sense of wonder, but I wonder if that can ever be recreated. Halo has a very huuuuuuge feeling to its universe and I definitely like that as well. I do, however, find Half-life's plot slightly more interesting, partly because I'm obsessed with alternative universes.
I hope that the movie keeps the deviation from the story and environment of Halo: CE to a bare minimum.

I think it would be more exciting if he'd make a cameo or something. The characters could also mention him in discussions and such.
"Hey you know, I just saw a Spartan a while ago" or some shit like that.
