editing? creative license? correction?? fitting your design??????
editing? creative license? correction?? fitting your design??????
you're getting upset that I'm using the word censorship to describe what fits the dictionary definition of censorship while ALSO telling me I'm upset over something trivial and unimportant come on
I'm not upset that Blizzard's games have been stripped of scantily clad women, because as you've clearly demonstrated that isn't the case. I'm upset that Blizzard immediately surrendered to the demands of a lone whiner without even bothering to offer any sort of defense on the part of the people who made the game.

What I'm asking is that as you continue to add to the overwatch cast and investment elements, you double down on your commitment to create strong female characters. You've been doing a good job so far, but shipping with a tracer pose like this undermines so much of the good you've already done.
http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20743015583#post-1
Most of the animated progression elements are really outstanding, but I agree there are about 4-5 poses that don't live up to the quality bar set by the rest of the content. The Hots beta/alpha was regularly doing huge art passes on all their content, and I hope we can see some of these more lack luster poses get updated before ship!
http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20743015583?page=10#post-197 How is this in any way "demanding"?
if you can think of another word for "removing content based on the basis of it being objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient", then by all means, I would love to hear it
There is no higher power removing content from the medium. nobody is being kidnapped or secretly imprisoned for speaking out. There have been no raids on the homes of dissenters, or suppression of news by the government, or cover-ups for abuse of power. These are some of the things that are truly censorship issues. a video game developer choosing to respond to fan feedback by removing an animation doesn't warrant a serious label of 'censorship.' Especially, since, y'know, it was willing.
um they are the people who make the game??
I think he's referring to the artists involved in the animation/model/art for her character
also its not even removing content its just changing it, analogous to changing the structure of a sentence to emphasise a different part of the sentence. i mean the ass still exists doesn't it? [editline]29th March 2016[/editline]
you're getting upset that I'm using the word censorship to describe what fits the dictionary definition of censorship while ALSO telling me I'm upset over something trivial and unimportant come on
dictionary definition = the way i think it is without consideration of nuance, usage or general common sense

Like it or not, this situation fits the definition of censorship. I'm not going to refuse to use the most accurate and descriptive word just because you think it ought to only be used in certain circumstances.
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that the thing that people are actually of afraid of is happening, developers removing and altering their games to appease a tiny minority of moral guardians. You know, the thing you mock and belittle people for being upset by.
I'm sorry bro. It's just that when somebody gets mad on the internet over something so painfully petty, so painfully inconsequential, so painfully retarded, I have to look and laugh because goddamn, this is just so fuckin silly. Personally boycott Overwatch if this move bothers you so much. Convince others to boycott Overwatch. Show your disapproval with some emails or something idaf man its your life and time, spend it how you want.
Its a great video game buttocks and i would like to see more poses showing it off but blizzard owns those ass chicks and can do what he wants whether it is giving in to complainers or defying them
Blizzard has been shown to be spineless already, so I'm not surprised. They've caved in before when people thought a ship being named Tyrande's Silence was a reference to how women should be silent as opposed to one of Tyrande's skills. They also recently changed one of Ji Firepaw's lines because he called female characters pretty.

Censorship requires an authority that is forcibly blocking the expression of people underneath it. This is a company willingly changing something about its product based on the response from a consumer. This is not censorship.

Doesn't matter to me if it's censorship or not, it's still retarded because that pose isn't even sexual.

It might not fit by your specific definition, but I'm not under any obligation to only use your specific definition. We could argue all day about how this word or that word doesn't describe this or isn't the best word for that, but it's a completely pointless exercise. I think what has happened here is wrong. You could describe it with whatever words you please, I would still think it's wrong.

As the game director, I have final creative say over what does or does not go into the game. With this particular decision, it was an easy one to make—not just for me, but for the art team as well. We actually already have an alternate pose that we love and we feel speaks more to the character of Tracer. We weren’t entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively. That the pose had been called into question from an appropriateness standpoint by players in our community did help influence our decision—getting that kind of feedback is part of the reason we’re holding a closed beta test—but it wasn’t the only factor. We made the decision to go with a different pose in part because we shared some of the same concerns, but also because we wanted to create something better. We wouldn’t do anything to sacrifice our creative vision for Overwatch, and we’re not going to remove something solely because someone may take issue with it. Our goal isn’t to water down or homogenize the world, or the diverse cast of heroes we’ve built within it. We have poured so much of our heart and souls into this game that it would be a travesty for us to do so. We understand that not everyone will agree with our decision, and that’s okay. That’s what these kinds of public tests are for. This wasn’t pandering or caving, though. This was the right call from our perspective, and we think the game will be just as fun the next time you play it. If it isn’t, feel free to continue sharing your concerns, thoughts, and feedback about this and other issues you may have with the game, please just keep the discussion respectful.
bolded parts i thought were important. people are making mountains out of mole hills regarding this
http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20743015583?page=11#211 bolded parts i thought were important. people are making mountains out of mole hill regarding this
I'm a lot more satisfied with this response. I still think removing the pose is stupid, but it's their choice to make.
i don't think any sane people have a problem with some female characters being sexualized in a video game. the problem is when all of the female characters are, and that's their whole character - being sexy. and i'm not saying Overwatch is like that, it absolutely isn't. Overwatch has great character designs that are diverse and inclusive, and that includes being inclusive to people who want sexy video game asses (look at widowmaker's ass. or symmetra's thighs. there's still strong confident ladies in the videogame who are also sexy). but tracer isn't like that, outside that pose. it feels like the pose is just there to be "hey look at our videogame asses" which would be disappointing for people to whom that issue is important. and it's not like removing her ass makes the game any worse, so what's really the harm in doing it? nobody's stopping you from playing symmetra or widowmaker or genji if you want to have a hot ass when you play overwatch. but that kind of pose doesn't really fit tracer at all. just my two cents on the matter, as if anyone cared:vs:
Gotta hand it to this lone whiner guy. He did manage to rile up a lot of people over something so stupidly trivial.
Gotta hand it to this lone whiner guy. He did manage to rile up a lot of people over something so stupidly trivial.
That's how the Internet works, look at all the people who got riled up over video game violence and sexism.
I'm a lot more satisfied with this response. I still think removing the pose is stupid, but it's their choice to make.
lmao exactly how i said it was. you got some egg on your face man
I think they should´ve just avoided replying to said thread entirely and silently removed/replaced it like they did with the porn mag easter egg in the Route 66 map. Would´ve saved them the entire dumb PR backlash.
lmao exactly how i said it was. you got some egg on your face man
As a matter of fact, by you absolutely feeling like you had to "win" this discussion with this last comment, you are the one to have "egg on your face". Scorpio has remained civil and level headed throughout this whole thing, and accepted the detailed response from the developers. Whether or not that fits with what you had to say doesn't really matter in the end, you shouldn't be a jerk about it, especially when he lended you the same courtesy (as in, not being a jerk about his opinions).
lmao exactly how i said it was. you got some egg on your face man
I still stand completely behind what I said at the time given the available information. Just because your assumption happened to be true doesn't mean your argument was good or that you had a good reason to make the assumption in the first place. What bothered me in the first place wasn't the removal of the pose, it was the idea that self censorship was occurring, which I still maintain is what the initial response indicated. What bothers me even more than that however is the response to the complaints about the perceived self censorship. Instead of attempting to demonstrate why this situation wasn't that, the majority of responses I've seen and heard are just petty mockery that seemingly implies that self censorship isn't something to be bothered by. I maintain that people had every right to be upset given what the game director initially said, and that self censorship is a universally detestable practice. People ought to be upset when all information available to them indicates that something bad is happening.

If her butt was trivial, people wouldn't have made an issue out of it in the first place. So clearly someone thought it was an issue. If it's an issue, then people should have opinions about it from multiple sides. But getting angry over a butt is fucking stupid.
I don't understand what they're suppose to mean when they say they will "continue to try to do better." What are they going to do? Run around and tell all their artists and animators that anything involving the lower waist if off limits? No more skin tight pants for any characters? Like, what had to be done better? Nothing really. One person complained and you pandered to them and now you need to commit to do what better? Pander to single complaints? No, please, don't. Keep going about your business. Unless some riot starts because of an issue, internet riot or otherwise, I don't think you need to pander to single, individual complaints. Christ, this feels so knee jerk it's like they kicked a hole in a wall with the reflex.
I like how no one really argued Scorpio.

Blizzard should've responded by making every character in the game have their own 'butt pose', even the male characters. Lemme get some of dat hot Bastion robo-booty, yeeeee.
