I approve of the buying jets part, our military isnt enough for the land we control... if the united states was not our ally, the enemy could practically walk in. Depends how you define rich, if they have a huge ass income, they deserve to be taxed more then the general population. If its a inheritance/lottery they should not be taxed any more then the average income citizen. "Americanizing" is like saying "Oh such and such is similar to that so that means he is copying so and so". Kind of like copyright laws. I also believe that our immigration laws are currently poor and should be reformed.
We don't need jets. The only real military concern we have is arctic sovereignty and to handle that we don't need jets - we need ships. Yes the rich deserve to be taxed more, and that's what I was saying. Harper doesn't seem to want to do this - I don't think anyone would complain if another tax bracket was added at the top. The extra income would be great for our economy. Inheritance and lottery are both income and should be taxed according to regular tax laws but I don't really care about that so much. Americanizing means building megaprisons and introducing more mandatory minimum sentences, two utterly failed concepts. Want to lower crime? Use that extra income from the rich and hire more cops and probation officers and open more community outreach centres. The copyright laws that Harper has proposed are even more draconian than the DMCA in the US so what he wants to do there is even worse than Americanizing. At least the bill we (were) getting was watered down because the public wouldn't stand for it. In addition, Harper and the Conservatives are the only major party that haven't gotten behind OpenMedia's "vote for the net" campaign. They are literally the only ones who haven't gone on the record saying they support an open internet. And what is wrong with our immigration laws?
You sure we need to buy an overly expensive jet with hyped-up advanced features?
What else is there that is 5th generation, and that Canadian gov't can purchase, and capable of taking down the opposite advanced forces jets (russia).
Conservatives also want to get rid of the long gun registry - you register everything from your car to your damn dog, why shouldn't you register your guns?
Conservatives also want to get rid of the long gun registry - you register everything from your car to your damn dog, why shouldn't you register your guns?
I thought rednecks came from south USA not Canada
I thought rednecks came from south USA not Canada
Most of our rednecks are actually pretty cool Watch Trailer Park Boys it is a 100% true documentary
Conservatives also want to get rid of the long gun registry - you register everything from your car to your damn dog, why shouldn't you register your guns?
Because it costs a shitload for the government? I'd rather not have to register my shitty CZ 858 with a 5 round magazine.
What else is there that is 5th generation, and that Canadian gov't can purchase, and capable of taking down the opposite advanced forces jets (russia).
Yes, because Canada will dive into a theater war with the Russian Federation 5-10 years from now. The Big Red Bear is coming! The solution is to purchase one of the most expensive fighter aircraft in history! We don't need top of the line jets that aren't part of our defense priorities and will probably fall short of the hype. Maybe we should've followed the naval plans (getting us some 10-12 nuclear attack subs) laid out in the 1987 White Paper so that the task of Arctic sovereignty would be a bit easier now.
Because it costs a shitload for the government? I'd rather not have to register my shitty CZ 858 with a 5 round magazine.... or my Mosin Nagant.
Why the fuck not You're not losing any freedom by registering your gun
As far as the fighter jets go, they are far too expensive for something that we don't really need, as our CF-18s nearly slide in at the 5th generation. The F35 isn't as new as many of the fighters that are coming out within the next 6 years (see: PAK FA, J-20). We are good right now. We don't need planes that cost as much as F-22s. [editline]24th April 2011[/editline] Oh, I voted for Liberal. My MP is a really chill guy, and everyone around here is voting for him, I decided to vote strategically. Plus I read the Liberal platform, and they want Net Neutrality. That's chill.
Holy fuck. Americans, read this as a fucking warning seriously. Look at what is happening to the UK and Canada with our Conservative governments, then note that your conservatives somehow manage to be even more batshit. Canadians, I actually pity you. Harper is an absolute fuck, and you're more than welcome to come chill in the UK, where we don't buy US jets for no reason. (We just build our own planes, then realise we can't actually afford to use them then mothball them.)
Don't mean to nitpick, mate, but look up "British Apache Program".
okay make room in canada I'm coming over oh well we sort of made those choppers ourselves and did the typical british military thing of taking someone else's stuff and whacking our own crap in it and perhaps making it better, so it's not quite as bad.
okay make room in canada I'm coming over
You can crash at my flat. I will introduce you to Molson's beer, also known as happiness.

I wouldn't worry about a Conservative government sweeping over the US. The Republicans might have a majority in the House right now, but that'll change come 2012.
On the topic of jets, we could have just decided to buy Saab Gripens for significantly less than the F-35 and have more or less all the features of the F-35 without stealth capability. I'd trust a Swedish made plane more for Arctic patrol too, probably performs better in the cold. Now if I was old enough to vote in this election, I probably wouldn't because I dislike all the major parties. Conservatives are idiots. Ignatieff and the Liberals are also idiots. The NDP want to keep the long gun registry and I've heard shit about them making it so speaking English or French isn't a requirement for immigration, which honestly I think is a bad idea.

We brits tend to riot over basically anything.

Also, if you seriously wouldn't vote NDP just because of keeping the long gun registry and removing language requirements for immigration, that's kind of sad. It's sadly all about the lesser of the evils here.
It's sadly all about the lesser of the evils here.
I've yet to see one argument against the NDP that wasn't "they aren't especially competent" or "socializm!!". Even that isn't "choosing between evils", it's just settling for some flaws.
The long gun registry is honestly retarded. Nobody is going to rob a bank with a 5 foot long bolt action battle rifle, they're going to rob a bank with a pistol. I'm all for pistols and other short barreled weapons having to be registered because they're more likely to be used in crime, but not fucking Mosin Nagants and Kar98s. Now the language requirement is a good idea. If you don't have a working knowledge of English or French, how will you function in Canadian society?.
The NDP tend to create quite a bit of debt.
Living in Nova Scotia right now is quite the time.

I saw a sign that said Elect Jesus King just now on the highway. I know who I'm voting for.
I'm writing "Assassination" next to every name, and then "Fuck the NWO" and "Kill all Illuminati" on my vote.
I might actually vote conservative, I dislike the Long gun registry and no other parties are against it.
I might actually vote conservative, I dislike the Long gun registry and no other parties are against it.
fuck civil rights and social services I don't want to have to fill out a form
fuck civil rights and social services I don't want to have to fill out a form
Its costing a shit ton of money, and its almost useless.. which is why its almost talked about as a failure by most. Criminals won't register their guns anyways, therefor bypassing the system and creating a hassle for the general public.
