[360][W33D] 360 ROVESCOPE ROCK SCRUBSZZZZ [mLG CIRCUIT 202X][XXXXXX]

People are getting interested now that they hear that it's got a laser.
If only they'd put a laser on the space shuttle, it would still be flying today.
Hey, did you hear that they're putting a minigun on the next lander...
I give this about a week before scientists start burning dirty words into the bedrock.

I agree
Way to go Curiosty, you probably just woke up the fucking Mysterons.
I am not entirely sure if my calculation is right, but I think the energy released over the whole salvo is 150 joules.
About one quarter of energy 9x19 Parabellum bullet has.
It evaporates rock because of how short and intense the pulses are, also hitting a pinpoint surface, but if it shot you, the worst that would happen to you would be painful stings leaving tiny burns, unless it shot your eyes.

Isn't it amazing how Mars used to be a habitable planet, just like Earth? What happened to it is what could happen to us at any point. The whole process doesn't take long at all either. The end of our world could happen in way under a days time.
I wonder though. If we were to lose our atmosphere, how the underground cities in the hollow Earth will fare. My guess is that they will survive, with all their technology and insight.
Ozone depletion though, we will live to see it gone. You can't evade that fact.

I doubt it's that much. 150 joules absorbed in 5 nanoseconds probably rip alot of your tissue apart because of the evaporating water and plasma and it would definitely be a lethal weapon.

Deep and painful burns at fuarking 600 rpm (it can emit 10 pulses per second) !

No.
If I am calculating it right (feel free to do it yourself and present the calculations), the 30 pulses spread over 10 seconds had total energy of 150 joules. Not each.

If I got it right each shot was 5 joules. That's a worse airsoft gun ball.
The rocks are going to band together and then we'll be FUCKED.

I though't you meant 150 joules per single pulse. But even 5 joules sounds too much.
That would make the lasers power 1 terawatt. Apparently the power is 2.8 million watts (tho the article says "over a million watts"). At 5 nanosecond pulses that would make 14 millijoules per pulse. Doesn't sound very dangerous, but would probably give you small burns. If 14mJ is enough to turn rock into plasma, 5 joules in 5ns would deffy be dangerous.
2.8*10^6W*5*10^-9s=0.014Ws=14mJ
MEANWHILE ON MARS

How do you know Mars used to be a habitable planet? And what exactly happened to Mars? Have you done some excavations? And what do you mean our world could end under a days time?
As for Ozone depletion, I can't really say what's going to be the end of life on Earth, but most scientists have agreed that the Sun is going to be the Earth's eventual doom. But before that happens, the planet is probably extinct already.
How do you know Mars used to be a habitable planet?
there used to be water, we can see traces of it. and of course there are still icecaps
And what exactly happened to Mars?
the water evaporated because mars' gravity isn't strong enough to retain it
what do you mean our world could end under a days time?
asteroids, nuclear war, grey goo, etc
ok now where's mine?

Scientists confirm that rocks can be used as WMDs.
