Yogscast, these two British bronies who like minecraft became extremely famous by playing minecraft, they went to minecon and were total jerks, Notch tweeted, everyone sided with the soulless duo, the end. Also there was that "The Best Gamers" troll review that everyone thought was serious (just for the record: he did not use "programmer graphics").
This is exactly what DIDN'T happen.
Seems like notch is just hopping on the popular bandwagon.
Whats up with facepunch hating notch now? Seriously, he makes a drunken comment on twitter and now he's public enemy #1.

I don't understand how taking down a server would be in protest of something.. to take down servers?..
"Hmm, how to protest something with little to no effort? I know! I'll make my shitty indie game go off which will only affect our players! I am brilliant."
More like he's just egocentric and has poor work ethic, but he becomes the internet's greatest arch nemesis since Jack Thompson, so now people go out of their way to find reasons to be mad at him.
It's funny because he made one of the most popular games to come out recently, and I'll admit, minecraft isn't perfect and Notch isn't a perfect guy either, but I swear people always seem to bitch about him when they're given a chance.
The more companies and services that blackout the better, more will then follow because of that and then it will be noticed alot more, so it doesn't matter so much if alot of the community is already aware of it and against it.
I could give less of a fuck about Yogscast, and I hate them to the very core. That is not the reason I dislike Mojang. Though, the Yogscast incident is an excellent example. We gave Notch our money for Minecraft way back when in alpha. We got lots of updates. Then he started to take vacations. I'm going to summarize the events that unfolded. It ended up with Notch vacationing all the fucking time and leaving it up to mod makers to make ideas, so that he could steal them and add them to the game. The creativity in Minecraft declined incredibly at the advent of beta. Notch began to take ideas by mod makers instead of using his own ideas. This became a growing problem. Various things were added to the game. What was the problem? He never finished them. He would branch out into multiple genres of games with Minecraft and never actually finish the features. We have a ton of incomplete and broken features in Minecraft. That's not even counting the ones that don't make sense. Combat is downright awful. There are next to no types of Minerals. We only have iron, gold, obsidian, lapis, and a few more forgettable block types. Notch could have expanded on the types of blocks, but no. Cooking was never expanded on. He just gave us watermelons and that was that. Let's move on to the two biggest problems with Minecraft. 1.8 was supposed to be the big update. It was to have npcs, villages, dungeons, and all that jazz. What did we get? We got dungeons, strongholds, and villages. What's the problem with villages? They had no people. Notch made the game a semi-weekly beta at this point. Npcs were added. The npcs had no function. They looked like shit. All they did was walk around. Now came the finished product. What did it have in store for us? The "finished" product had the same npcs that did nothing from 1.9, a terribly stupid new world that had no meaning in the game, a trolling ending, and hardly anything new since 1.9 overall. Notch added enchanting and alchemy to the game. Enchanting is stupidly random and not worthwhile. It was never properly expanded on. Alchemy is an ok addition. It was executed decently. The Achille's heel of alchemy is that by the time you can go to the Nether to make the potion, you already have diamonds. Having diamonds makes you pretty much unstoppable, hence there is no need for potions at that point. The second biggest problem in my eyes is the lack of a Modding API. We were promised this many times. Notch went through many stupid ideas. One was to charge for it and to sell mods on an online market. The community backlashed to this notion. What was wrong with this "API?" It wasn't an API; it was just going to be the source code. Like that wouldn't leak at all. We have been waiting for an API for months upon months. What did we get? We got nothing. The official release came around and there was still no word of an API. I have no respect for Notch. He made Minecraft. I enjoy Minecraft sometimes because occasionally it is fun. Does that mean I respect Notch? The answer is: Fuck no. The only good decision Notch made was hiring Jeb. Jeb is a man that actually knows what he is doing, and I would much rather have him leading the development of Minecraft than Notch. I'm going to take this paragraph to discuss the sheer immaturity of Notch. He has proven time and time again to be a greedy, lazy, and childish baby. He's taken tons of vacations. There's some informational image somewhere which shows how many; I don't feel like hunting the image down. The Yogscast incident is a great example which shows his horrible PR skills and immaturity. If leading a company, you don't talk shit about a guest on Twitter and spread allegations as such. He complained about them swearing, yet he swore multiple times in front of live audiences. I don't really care about the Yogscast incident, so I wont continue to ramble on about it. Notch has been known time and time again to be a greedy asshole. He sold out to Microsoft to have it "exclusively" on the Kinect. The android mobile version is an abomination, yet it is still sold for $7. It is not worth a penny in its current state. It is the most unresponsive piece of shovelware I have ever played. You're an ignorant child if you believe people hate him because of some silly incident with the likes of Yogscast.
Well look at it, there are vast numbers of younger players who play Minecraft. Chances are, they don't take an interest in politics. One day, the Minecraft servers go down, and the kids wonder what happened. They go to the site, find out that SOPA is to blame, and tag negative thoughts with SOPA. This is actually a great idea, since this time it will inform the uninformed/ignorant.
Whats up with facepunch hating notch now? Seriously, he makes a drunken comment on twitter and now he's public enemy #1.
Seriously. Notch created one of the best games I've ever played, and since he "messed things up" or "didn't provide enough updates or takes too long to update" he is now universally hated by all of Facepunch. I'll tell you, Notch is 1 of few, developers who actually CARE about their game, unlike games like Call of Duty, which receive few to no updates after release, and you actually have to PAY for content, UNLIKE Minecraft, where we've been GRACED with modding capability (which almost no new games support nowadays). And it is CHEAP. 15 Euro? That's fucking nothing compared to $60 that CoD is. I guess Notch has spoiled facepunch. They take for granted..him

I haven't really been following this SOPA issue, but could someone please inform me as to exactly what all these sites and services going offline is supposed to achieve? I mean, does taking their website down prove some kind of point or achieve some specific goal? Just trying to understand it.
Whats up with facepunch hating notch now? Seriously, he makes a drunken comment on twitter and now he's public enemy #1.
No it's because of his shitty game. And him taking &e0 amount of vacations making all of his employees do his shit.

Seems to me like Notch got caught in a situation where there are very very high expectations about a game that he himself is not very enthusiastic about, so he procrastinates, can't think of anything to do with it, takes vacations, leaves ideas and development to others, gives the game no direction to head in, adds stupid shit, and finally steps down as lead dev. I think he likes the success of minecraft, but doesn't really like developing the game very much and would rather do something else
wow you're austim is hindering your sarcasm detector
There was absolutely nothing to suggest that you were being sarcastic.
Honestly, Notch's lack of updates and any "complete" features was to be expected. He said multiple times that he has a habit of starting projects and not finishing them, I may or may not be mistaken, but he even said in the docummentary that he "has" to stick with this one. Not to mention, the minute he revealed "Scrolls" it should have been a sure sign that updates would be few and far in between from here on out. I personally enjoy playing Minecraft...but only in singleplayer. Multiplayer annoys me to my very core, because all it is is building. Not survival, even if server owners advertise it as survival. Just building.
