The Latest 4chan Stunt Bringing Out The “Thinner Beauty” in Overweight Girls.
4chan is known for some pretty extreme trolling. Some of the most memorable as being the time they trolled an epileptic board by posting flashing images and spamming tumblr with gore. But their latest shenanigans have some good in them, as “insulting” as they may seem to the women depicted in the photoshopped images. The post was made earlier on /pol/ a board on 4chan with the Subject “Project: Harpoon” The plan? According to the original post: “So here’s the idea. If the Tumblr fat acceptance/feminists make a big eal over photoshopping video game characters to be fatter than what they are, why don’t we photoshop their own photos to make them thinner, more attractive and, well, normal? Sharing the photos with the hashtag #ThinnerBeauty. Share the project, and summon the photoshop wizzards” Project: Harpon is believed to be in response to feminists recently photoshoping video came characters to be fatter than they were as if it is healthy and okay to be fat.
Users have been submitting content via the hashtag #ThinnerBeauty on Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter. One of the biggest ‘victims’ of this being Tess Holliday.

I wonder what their response will be to this.
They have a point.
Fat acceptance is going to kill more people than cancer in the coming century.
And when they get pissed, say sorry and photoshop the photoshop to make them fat again, making an ungodly mess :v:
This is fucking fantastic, cant wait to see the twitter outrage, it's going to be fucking A+
I don't believe in body shaming, but I don't think we should applaud people for being clinically obese, it is not healthy and you'd have to be delusional to go against the science. To be fair, neither is being skin and bones.
Despite it being /pol/ I really don't think there's a well thought out agenda on body shaming here, I think it's just to piss off a bunch of overly sensitive people and laugh at their tears.

Unfortunately people put their feelings over the facts. The fat liberation movement is pretty delusional and when you look at them it seems like they think they're the most oppressed group of people in the west.
Fat liberation is the most polite way to differentiate them just body acceptance.

You mean 4chan might be doing this in order to upset people? I for one, am shocked.
This is great.
God I hope these woman manage to just ignore it. I'd love for 4chan to not get the attention it's craving for once.

It's satire

Why? They're just trying to help. Do you want people to die from being obese?
God I hope these woman manage to just ignore it. I'd love for 4chan to not get the attention it's craving for once.
Why not? They do it to thin women all the time. Why is it not okay to do the reverse to fat women? Who knows, maybe it'll convince someone to get in shape because it looks better. I'm not talking about girls that are a little chubby, chubby is great. I'm talking about the woman in the OP

There's health benefits and social benefits to be had. Changing society to say "fat is healthy and sexy" isn't the answer, and I sympathize with anyone with a legitimate health problem that can't be helped, just like any other illness that negatively impacts someone's life.
Neither fat shaming nor fat acceptance are really the answer. [sp]the linked news story's message was obvious to everyone, I'm just proud of that old thread's title[/sp]
There's always been a self-destructive segment of society that's unwilling to accept the blame for its own ills, always will be, it just changes shape. One generation, it's rampant alcoholism, the next, it's irresponsible and unsustainable drug use, now it's cramming food down your hatch without a shred of self-control (no thanks to the food industry collectively pouring billions into ensuring that exact outcome happens) and declaring yourself the new normal.

I would argue that shaming overweight folk leads to more death than positive affirmations ever will

How long until people realize these weren't made as "Fat acceptance" Posters but for people suffering from eating disorders like Bullemia i.e. being too UNDERWEIGHT?
I would argue that shaming overweight folk leads to more death than positive affirmations ever will
More people have killed themselves after being called fat than had their lives cut short by being obese?
I would argue that shaming overweight folk leads to more death than positive affirmations ever will
Problem is there's no safe way to avoid shaming someone who's overweight when the term itself is inherantly bad for a reason
I think it's just to piss off a bunch of overly sensitive people and laugh at their tears.
That's what 4chan does, and good on them
these fat acceptance people are fucking delusional as is
I generally don't have problems with people who are overweight or obese. I only take issue with the ones that are morbidly obese and try to play it off as healthy and force that ideal on others. They promote the ideal that their body type is healthy when in reality it isn't. Its almost like they know it but don't want to face the reality of the situation and spend more energy fighting about it.
I don't like people who shame others, but you can help people in a way that isn't demeaning or detrimental to their already pissed off state. But don't expect people to accept obesity as healthy, because it isn't. If you don't listen to good advice on getting health that is your own problem. I know this is a bad saying specially when talking about weight but - "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" comes into mind.
It does not take doctors to explain the why being overweight is bad. So this little thing they're doing that is pretty hilarious. Its going to generate a lot of attention.

Well, there's a mid-point between getting somebody help and just shaming them for being bad at losing weight without providing any alternatives.
How long until people realize these weren't made as "Fat acceptance" Posters but for people suffering from eating disorders like Bullemia i.e. being too UNDERWEIGHT?
That's just a image search, but fat acceptance groups started using those images too. There's plenty of examples of feminist fat acceptance groups photoshopping slender women to push an agenda that bigger women can be sexy.

It's either going to be shoved under the rug and ignored or blow up to ridiculous proportions.
I'm pretty sure an overwhelming majority of fat people know that it's unhealthy, there is a vocal minority that are trying to claim it isn't but they're few and far between and are largely ignored and laughed at. Fat acceptance is more about not being a dick to a fat person (Which you shouldn't be a dick to anyone but this isn't a perfect world), just a small group of people on tumblr latch onto things like that and run wild with ideas. They're silly and shouldn't really be accounted for when talking about a problem except when you want to laugh at them, as their impact on the larger picture is so small compared to a general lack of education on food and nutrition, the overworked american, the billion dollar fast food industry...all these have way bigger impacts than some idiots and trolls preaching on a tumblr blog.
fucking hilarious

The original idea was exactly that, but then you had people using them for their own purposes. AKA tumblr and feminst folks using the images to propagate fat acceptance which is arguably doing just as much harm as fat shaming.

I don't know if it's an 'agenda' as such, more of a self-delusion. Are they making any money or profit off it? I suppose they can get government funding for being a 'health promoting organization' if they can convince everyone that what they're doing is healthy.
More people have killed themselves after being called fat than had their lives cut short by being obese?
If you're overweight enough to die from it, positive or negative reinforcement isn't going to change very much. There's a difference between 200lbs and 500lbs, and a difference between shaming both.
