Ban the ability to buy illegal firearms? You know what illegal means, right?
You do know that people STILL buy illegal firearms... right? So instead of trying to ban legal firearms, why not actively try to stop those who sell and buy illegal firearms.

It is indeed a problem with society but restricting how easy it is to acquire a gun could help stop at least some of those maniacs who just wants to kill people. It's not like it's going to raise the death counts, it's a possibility that it does of course but not a very likely one. That it's a problem with society could be said about a lot of things. I am not Anti-guns, I simply consider what could be done to stop people from dying from guns and the best solution so far seems to be limiting how easy it is to get a gun. I just don't see society getting better and crime rate in America going down as easily, or mental care being given to every 12 year old (or younger/older whatever9 so that they wont grow up to be a killer.
I wish Americans could act in general more like Europeans. Sure we have our school shootings too which is very regrettable, but the need for guns just seems a bit excessive some times. Of course your culture is beyond removing guns from the picture as almost everyone has one, it's just a pity how deep firearms are embedded in your culture. I live in Finland which I admit has some of the highest gun rates in Europe, but still I can say I don't know ANYONE who owns a firearm :D I've never personally shot one outside military service, ever. All I'm seeing is that US is just a really dangerous and unsafe place to live in, as everyone is promoting their rights and NEEDS to have a gun so bad. Here in Finland we have gun clubs and such too, but a bit funny people go there :> No need for guns in every day life here. Move to Finland! :)
This case will go nowhere, he only made threats so this is Assault at the very most, having guns in the house means nothing in the US, you're allowed them. I don't know what the laws are like in the US but in England, threatening someone with no physical act to show that the defendant will actually carry out the attack is one of the very weakest offences in the Criminal Justice Act and can only get a maximum of 6 months in prison. This article makes it sound that everyone who owns guns and threatens to use them will actually do it. It's all just post-Aurora paranoia.

No. No one who buys a gun specifically to kill has bought it from a legal source. You may not be getting this, but that means he isn't a legal citizen, he's already a criminal. Right there, that's a criminal committing a crime to be violent in nature and not a citizen who just wants to own his guns. What is a gun ban going to do from here? It's really only going to stop those legal citizens who just enjoy guns from having them. Everyone else has guns though. Military, police, criminals, all those groups have guns, and the citizens of the country, the real people of a country aren't worthy of guns? Of self defence in a time of need? Hobbyism? The people who ascribe to these notions don't really commit crimes. The criminals with illegally bought guns do. I really don't believe that everyone who intends to kill someone buys an gun from illegal source. And like I said I don't want guns banned just harder to get so those really devoted to guns get them. I might be wrong here but it seems it's as easy as just being an adult and having money to get a gun in America (and not having registered crime). That could possibly be limited to people who use them for sport, hunting or an active hobby instead (like it is in Sweden except the hobby part). This might do nothing at all of course and the real problem may lay in that it's too easy to get guns illegally and nothing else. I don't know but isn't it worth trying? Owning a gun for self-defense is a bit shady since anyone could just use that as a reason if restrictions are put up but I realize that it has to be a reason because of the crimes in America tat could be committed without a gun. The real problem is of course the crime rate/amount of criminals and felony. Owning a gun for self-defense shouldn't have to be a reason. It isn't in Sweden (It's actually illegal to own one for self-defense solely). Limiting guns isn't going to fix that but it could stop at least some of the deaths while the real problems are being worked on.
People are shooting because of the lack of jobs created by the depression which is a direct result of our country's fiscal irresponsibility.
