It'll evolve into something even worse, possibly EA Downloader worse.
DRM, profitable for no one.
Great idea Ubisoft: Keep the DRM that interferes with legitimate users' game playing and hasn't curbed piracy a whit.
If by "evolve, improve", they mean making it less intrusive and shit, then I'm fine with it, I hope they do update their old games that got released with shitty DRM when they get a good DRM out.
I'm too optimistic today.
It's kinda funny how other Publishers are trying to make decent DRMs and failing while Steam has little to no issues. Either Steam is exceptionally well done or other Publishers aren't even trying to make something user friendly.
The thing with Steam is that it only works with multiplayer games, singleplayer games on Steam can still be pirated, multiplayer games on Steam can also be pirated but you're stuck playing on pirate servers.
I don't know why everyone is so against this DRM. Steam did exactly the same thing years ago. Granted, they got pretty much the same reaction Ubi is getting.
Oh, you might say that Steam has an offline mode. One that hasn't worked reliably for years. The one time I tried to use it, it didn't work, and I couldn't play HL2 at all until my connection was back.
I have never had a problem with Offline mode, I don't know what anyone else is talking about. I use it all the time on trips.
If trackmania 2 uses ubisoft's fucking DRM i will fucking rage so hard :saddowns:
I'll rage so hard. It's gonna be biblical.

Just for the reference
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK :argh:
I HATE Ubisoft.

With passion
And cracked within -10 minutes of release.
You do realize Ubisofts DRM is yet to be cracked right? For all of you bitching about DRM whats worse to you, half assed console ports and more console exclusives or some drm?

Don't make me laugh, their DRM is just as easy to crack as any other.
Until DRM is removed and game prices lower piracy is just going to continue growing.
God dammit, it won't last.
your avatar says it all.

It's cracked. About a week ago a server emulator was released, with which you can type whatever you want in the login box. I'd post a link but I'd get banned. v:v:v
Also, it's fully playable, unlike the previous cracks.
This thread is a minefield.
If Trackmania 2 has this shit I'm just going to off myself
Starforce 3.0 worked well
I want to break Ubisoft's HQ building with my mind :argh:
Trackmania 2 is going to have this? :frown:
Why? WHY?!
If it's anything like EA's idea of evolving, then we're going to be stuck with non functioning DRM that only does a quarter of the things it's meant to. And comes without a plant editor. :(

offline mode
What? I've been using Steam for four years now and I have been able to use offline mode all throughout. I honestly think the opponents of the offline mode are either incompetent or have never tried it.
You have to be logging in once and have it save your account credentials. From there on out you can be offline forever (as long as you don't log out :downs:).
Finally, this system has been cracked and works on multiple games now. It's funny how the more money Ubi dumps into this, the more the pirate community attacks it (for free :c00l:).
it functions but it's unreliable as fuck. I've logged into my account numerous times and remained logged in (even had it on startup) yet when my pc isn't connected to the net it gives me "try again" "go offline" and "quit" - and "go offline" presents me with a could not connect to servers message
ubi soft always reminds me of Rayman 1.
One of the best ps1 games ever. Didn't like rayman 2 that much or others.

Then that's your problem, I have never had that problem in my 6 years of using Steam.

you realize that's not an appropriate argument, right?
"oh, your brakes weren't functioning when you got your car? WELP, MINE WORK FINE"

Except a car is different from a program
it's an analogy to show if a fairly critical function isn't working for everyone there's an issue

You could go ask the steam forums about your problem or something, its not like you can never find a fix for it.
YES! I love DRM!!!!
It has never worked and is almost universally a massive PR failure. Why do they try so hard?
Yeah, evolve, improve, and be cracked in about a minute after release, rendering all of it, worthless.
This is probably the best-working DRM I've ever seen. It took them a month or two to crack it, and even then, it still has all sorts of shitty limitations.

Not very good for people like me who use Wireless.
What's that? Your Router stopped sending signal for 2 seconds? YOU CAN'T PLAY ANY MORE.

I just tried it a little bit ago, and I did get offline mode to work.
But a couple years ago when my internet really was out, I didn't get it to work. I've never needed it since then.
So at least to me, being connected to the internet isn't a problem. What I am worried about is if I can't play it 10 years later.
But I read this review on Amazon about AC2, and they were talking about how you can't play AC2 at the beach. And I was thinking, why would you want to play AC2 at the beach? I'm perfectly fine with only playing games while I'm at my house.
this is why people pirate their games
making a drm like this wont decrease piracy, just increase it
its really not that complicated

I suppose I am talking with regard just to my experiences. I've always seen widespread complaint but never experienced any myself. Although they have been improving it (although at what pace I'm not sure).

Maybe it's raining? Maybe you are at a relative's house whose connection is terrible (or nonexistent) and want to play some games. The fact is reliable internet is not yet a full widespread phenomena and until it does, I can't see why anyone would justify a system where you need to be connected perpetually to be able to play a singleplayer experience.

Get a better adapter then. And I'm pretty sure it doesn't stop you the second you lose connection, there's a grace period.
