ACTIVISION: We love your Money!
[editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
Now that they are pulling off a World of Warcraft in Call of Duty Format, they will be 20% more richer than yesterday
Every time I come into this thread and see "Hyper Realistic" I laugh very hard.
Microtransactions
I don't think charging +5dollars for hats is called microtransaction.. it's just ridiculous, but good business.
And i'm sure people will still suck it up because it's simply COD. At least the "ultra-brogamer" crowd.
So not only you pay 60$ yearly for new CoDs and 15$ per like 4 map packs for each game but they also want you to pay monthly for some bonus bullshit?

All in all like £80 for a game that is exactly the same as the last 6 or 7, but with different skins, models and maps... for £80. While Battlefield 3 will probably be around £30-40, it'll most likely have free dlc (maps in patches) and will be waay more fun and original.

60$ + 3x15$ + monthly subscription for a game that's worth maybe 20$ and I'm being generous.
I know it's a bullshit feature that should be free if at all but you guys seem to overblow it.
It is just some shit subscription social network that comes with maps.
As far as we know (for now) it really does nothing ingame other than some maps that half the people won't be playing cause they aren't gonna pay for the shit service.
I'll still buy MW3 cause all the previous ones IMO have been worth the money in entertainment value.
I'm sick of shit like this, wrecking the gaming industry.
Does anyone remember all those free mods, updates, addons we used to get?

As long as Valve will there the gaming industry will be alive

You'd be saying the same if the game would cost 60$ but after that you'd have to pay for singleplayer (in 3 parts), subscription for multiplayer, all perks and weapons wouldn't be unlockable but you'd have to pay for them too, etc etc. We don't need to pay for all the bullshit, sure but we don't need to buy the game at all.
The problem is, kids are still going to buy it (for their parents' money) and other developers might get stupid ideas from this after they'll see that people will buy shit no matter how much they milk you.

What's to say Valve wont ever change? And why is it if only Valve is left, only then the gaming industry will still be alive? So suddenly there would be no more PC developers left (Tripwire, Creative Assembly etc) and Indies would also dissapear?
Also this whole affair isn't "wrecking" the game industry, the game industry is (and has) been constantly evolving. As a student who studies Business, I actually applaud Activision for making great approaches on its customer base to earn such a profit. How I'd love to have Kotick's wallet right now.

Yeah we'll see about that, because I for one am not too excited about Valve's recent doings.
Like the way they keep "updating" TF2, the way they feel about not creating a new 3rd installment for Half-life and the likes. But what can I do..
dis is gunna b awsum
there is no mention of monthly subscription in the video?

Yeah, who cares that they released one of the best games ever a month ago, they added HATS TO TF2!!! VALVE SUCKS!!!
I just saw pictures for this, it looks almost completely exactly like Bungie's stats for Halo.
So CoD steals the idea, and slaps money onto it? Fucking dumb.
They're just reusing it over and over again, they need to make a new one now
That is the worst reasoning I have ever heard. The engine is stable, modular, good looking, and has served as a dependable work horse for valve over the last 7 years... and you want them to get rid of it because it's OLD?
