Well, that's assuming we're using transistors still and not something like quantum computers.
The future scares me, but I want it so bad.
Well assuming you're 18 and you live to 80, by the time you die computers will be 157,875,899,765 times more powerful than they are now if Moore's Law is correct.
Must suck talking to your grandchildren then...
With programs at most normally utilizing 2 cores (rarely 4)... this is quite a long way from being useful to us.
Wow.
48 cores.
Wonder how it will run crysis :v:
Oh god, I'm gonna see awesome shit in my time.
This technological one upmanship is tiring me. 48 cores in my computer is a long way away, i will probably telling my children how awesome a 2 core processor was back in the day.
I said "Holy jesus fuck" out loud when I read the title.
Seriously, imagine playing L4D2 with a 48 core processor (with multicore support, of course)
30000000 FPS
EDIT: You'd need a graphics card that wouldn't bottleneck your processor. 32GB Nvidia Xtreme 40000

Why would you compare this to L4D2, Id compare it to something like Crysis only with much farther draw distance and all blades of grass are an individual model.

What's wrong with progress?
What is AMD doing?
Why would you compare this to L4D2, Id compare it to something like Crysis only with much farther draw distance and all blades of grass are an individual model.
We need a hard drive capable of such a large game first.
What is AMD doing?
AMD skipped going to 8 core and moved into manufacturing 12 and 16 core processors for the end of 2010 and then they showed off a concept I think of a 64 core processor.
I wonder how hot one of those would get... :allears:
We need a hard drive capable of such a large game first.
Just use that setup they have for storing all that information on people, Im sure if it can hold the internet so many times over it could run something as simple as that.
We need a hard drive capable of such a large game first.
Farther draw distance and all grass blades are a model wouldn't require big hdd at all.
Farther draw distance and all grass blades are a model wouldn't require big hdd at all.
Make each blade of grass a procedurally generated model, make each grain of sand a model, and have it all generated in real time.
I dont think a 48 core could even begin to run that.
What is AMD doing?
Making GPUs. :v:
What is AMD doing?
Making one that's cheaper.

You're asking a bit too much.
You're asking a bit too much.
Yeah and all while generating everything else in the world all at once, when I see this done by a computer then I will be amazed until then its not that big of a deal.
Yeah and all while generating everything else in the world all at once, when I see this done by a computer then I will be amazed until then its not that big of a deal.
Unless computers become conscious, they won't be able to dynamically generate objects that they have never seen.
Unless computers become conscious, they won't be able to dynamically generate objects that they have never seen.
Why would you say that...
They can already do that buddy.
Unless computers become conscious, they won't be able to dynamically generate objects that they have never seen.
They are already procedurally generating stuff. With more calculation power and better algorithms it will become more diverse too.

Unless we get like sextillion-core processors I don't think computers could simulate atom-to-atom the real world
They are already procedurally generating stuff. With more calculation power and better algorithms it will become more diverse too.
Ohh procedural. I mixed terms a bit. I thought he was talking about generating models from thin air. My bad.
Unless we get like sextillion-core processors I don't think computers could simulate atom-to-atom the real world
Impossible to do such a thing on a single processor, this is why you would build a network of processors to do such a thing.
Ohh procedural. I mixed terms a bit. I thought he was talking about generating models from thin air. My bad.
I was talking about generated from pre-existing basic knowledge kinda like how Euphoria engine generates real time reactions to Stimuli.
What is AMD doing?
They probable release an octocore-processor when this comes out.
[editline]01:10AM[/editline]
I have lost faith in AMD.
If the human brain can't, nothing can.
according to moore's law (and computers are getting a low faster a lot quicker than the law says), we'll have a computer that exceeds the storage and cognitive capacity of every human being on Earth within 50 yrs.

nVidia, thought you were too busy with the Fermi card releases to post?

Nah, i use ati.

Crysis is too over-used in comparing things.
