Yes, so they say
In reality it's an elitist pit of degradation and abuse
I'm guessing you've had some good experience so far though, and that's great, but I'd find it very hard to believe that you haven't seen the aspects that make it a cesspool

oh god you have to be kidding/have no knowledge of what you're talking about to actually say that

There's handfuls of family based and single service member programs for each branch. I have had good and bad experience but honestly the people who think its a cesspool are usually those who can't handle the strict and sometimes rigid military lifestyle required to include: being away from family, being told what to do, being a junior enlisted guy, restrictions to your free time etc. I imagine people like you would love to think that the military is this crazy failed institution but it's really not, it all depends on how you decide to handle the irreversable choice you made to join (whether it was well informed or not). Take what the guy up above said with a huge grain of salt.

I love when other people think my thoughts for me, frees up so much time

Helps make you high-speed low-drag, hooah?

Glad I could be of service, bro!
Not so much being different as the commanding officers have absolute power over their troops, leading to all kinds of abuse of power. Plus there's the whole ethos of "play for the team", meaning you keep your mouth shut if someone does something so you don't snitch, etc. It's kinda like a prison-style code of honor. When I was in boot camp they used to send random recruits they didn't like back to the beginning of basic just to "make an example out of them" etc. There's so much shit going on in there that doesn't get reported, I hear stories of cars getting wrecked and blaming them on deer when there was alcohol involved, almost every single recruit in my division lied to the MEPS to get in, etc.
Seriously, the military is a cesspool.
I dont know which boot camp you went to, but to get ASMO-ed back to P-days or Week-1, pretty much meant you shit the bed (literally), or double-tapped on a test.
I also don't know what part of the military you're in where theres the prison style code of honor, I've seen like the exact opposite, that its almost ridiculous how people will throw others under the bus in a heart beat to escape getting an ass chewing.
Also Article 138, if your CO is doing shady shit and letting people get away with rape.
Thanks Obama

What do you want to bet he's a Marine?

Welcome to the fleet bro I was just wondering if you made it through boot camp yet!
Glad I could be of service, bro!
Now go out there and defend some freedom, dude!
(What a shit joke I fell bad about that)
What do you want to bet he's a Marine?
I didn't know they had divisions in marine boot camp, I thought they called them platoons, and had an actual organization to their structure.
Which branch?
Navy. The marines are the worst offenders though. I remember hearing about one guy who mouthed back to his drill instructor in the marine boot camp and got his head smashed into a wall by the drill instructor. He ended up washing out, nobody did anything about it.
I'm not in it anymore, thank god.
As long as the military exists sexual assault will also exist within the institution. It's good that they are trying to fight it but they will never stop it.
If when the world was approaching one billion we said "Fuck it, developing all this technology to feed everyone is too hard and we'll never have enough food, let's just stick to inefficient agriculture" the world would be a much shittier place. Pessimism and cynicism are awful qualities to possess.

That's not an offense, that's daily life. That's what Marines do. It isn't good but it isn't supposed to be, and if you don't like it don't join.

I thought DIs were no longer allowed to physically abuse recruits.

You just proved my point. The fact that bashing someone's skull into the wall is considered normal to you shows just how screwed up the military is. Come back and try to do that in the civilian world, see how far it gets you, and how much respect you garner then.

Do you think this is true of all other militaries in the industrialised countries?
I thought DIs were no longer allowed to physically abuse recruits.
If its anything like the navy, where ive been told the normal 10-20 years back in boot camp was more physical contact much like tossing recruits to the floor, to now where if theres any recruit to recruit, or recruit to RDC contact, you go to mast. (recruit to recruit contact literally could mean giving each other a high-five)
The last I heard the marines were adopting a more "hands off" approach.
