To be fair to the rebels, government forces have committed foul atrocities against the people. This does not excuse, but does explain, merciless retaliation. If you're in the Syrian army you really don't want to get captured, it will almost certainly not end well for you.

Those soldiers they killed represent the government they are rebelling against and shit they probably killed their friends, family, and home.
