Except they restrict the plans available to those phones to insane $60-70 per month data plans
They have to make the money back on the phone somehow. Then again, I bought my phone brand new for £5 ($7) with £10 credit. Granted, it's shit, but it lets me phone and text people, pretty much all I want.
i hated AT&T to start with...they have really jacked up prices for everything
Fuck AT&T. Anyone who signs up with them just for an iPhone deserves getting shafted like they do.
Yep. I'll be the first to admit that I was one of those tools. I liked my buddy's iPhone, so I went and got one myself. Turns out I get pure-shit service where I live. My contract should be ending soon, and as soon as it does, my ass is switching to another carrier. The phone is nice for its gimmicks, but nothing is worth the headaches it gave. First and last time I ever trusted AT&T or Apple. :colbert:
Except they restrict the plans available to those phones to insane $60-70 per month data plans
don't buy it from them then.
Isn't Verizon termination fee the same price roughly?
Yeah, basically, the cost of the phone on a contract plus the early termination fee should equal the price of the phone without a contract.
Yep. iPhone 3GS 16gb discounted price: 199.00 iPhone 3GS 16gb retail price: 599.00 Since everyone else is saying it's the iPhone. And that 400.00 difference is for all the iPhones, not just the 3gs. That includes the refurb 3g (49.00 to 449.00). [editline]11:20PM[/editline]
Yeah, it's like that. Except when you entered the building, you signed a paper saying that you would promise to be in the building for 3 hours, but you got bored and left after an hour. It's bullshit, and I can't believe they would go this low, but you still signed a contract and that implies that you've read the entire contract and understand it. [sp]Even if you didn't actually read though it. [/sp]
If you don't read a contract and it affects you, that's your fault for not reading the contract.
I love how everyone bashes on AT&T's coverage, in California I rarely ever get dropped calls or no signal its usually during school that I get no signal with every other provider.
They can't change the contracts of existing customers. And if they can it's the customer's fault for being stupid enough to sign it.
Well, take a look through your contract. I am now actually. Did you know that upon signing up it is illegal for you to do a class action against att?
You agree that, by entering into this Agreement, you and AT&T are each waiving the right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action.
I'm keeping that one in mind for the next fucktard that yells at me for the iphone needing a data plan because they didn't read the requirement on the website, and ignored the warnings saying they need one, and saying that we can't do it and they will try and do a class action against att, etc. That said they still have not actually updated the service agreement with the new policy yet.
If we terminate your service for nonpayment or other default before the end of the Service Commitment, or if you terminate your service for any reason other than (a) in accordance with the cancellation policy; or (b) pursuant to a change of terms, conditions or rates as set forth below, you agree to pay us with respect to each device identifier or telephone number assigned to you, in addition to all other amounts owed, an Early Termination Fee of $175 ("Early Termination Fee"). For service activated on or after May 25, 2008, the Early Termination Fee will be reduced by $5.00 for each full month toward your minimum term that you complete. The Early Termination Fee is not a penalty, but rather a charge to compensate us for your failure to satisfy the Service Commitment on which your rate plan is based.
Wow, as much as I don't like or use cellphones that often, it's good thing I don't and never will have AT&T. Verizon gooooooooo!

Glad I dropped my iPhone when I did.
