I can't think of a period of time longer than like 30 years where America wasn't involved in some sort of conflict.
Civil War 1864
Spanish American War 1898
1898 -1861 = 37 years
That's all I've got.
This is why I hope nothing starts up in Korea.
Things rise up everywhere, it just takes time.
Because Wilson's legacy of "exporting democracy" has worked out so well for the US. It's from "exporting democracy" into the world that lead to 9/11.
Didn't we go over this already? Osama and most of Al Qaeda just want to attack the US and use foreign occupation as an excuse. Hell the foreign occupation they were mostly talking about was US involvement in buying Saudi Oil, an economic agreement which you support.

Don't forget between the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War, if you don't count the Amerindian conflicts in that time era.
"The era of good feeling" I think it was called iirc.
Yes, I'm sure people were a lot happier in 1830 than they are now.
The conflicts in Texas. So technically that isn't 30 years.

And you call the US's support of Israel what, then? Nothing at all, in regards to conflict in the Middle East?

Also an economic agreement. Israel provides a huge amount of military hardware and other high-tech equipment to the US. They help them militarily because they are protecting their economic interests in the same way that they sell stuff to Saudi Arabia.

Yeah, that wasn't the case in 1948. Explain that.
Yeah, that wasn't the case in 1948. Explain that.
It's changed since then, so what. Reckon Osama is blaming America for supporting Israel militarily 50 years ago?

Yes, actually.
Oh my god, the US did some bad shit years ago so we're gonna cop shit for it forever. The only way we can fix it is to withdraw from the world and let all those people who hate us do whatever they want. We still have to trade with people though, we need more money but I draw the line at using any troops whatsoever to protect our economic interests.

Can't handle reality that the past can haunt, can you?
Can't handle reality that the past can haunt, can you?
Your idea of the situation is twisted to suit your world-view. I can handle the past coming back you just have no idea of what's actually happening.
If the United States decides to kick this stupid Democrat president out then possibly no.
Unfortunately, with the problems in asia right now that seemed to reignite this week, that I just can't even talk about for the sake of not just my own but you guys too, my worst fear is two or more political parties alligning and destroying us, and a similar prediction to what those console destroyers, Fallout games said. The US to this century, not only has situations in the middle east region, but still in asia, that i hope does not get bigger. Considering my origin, this is something very serious I hope does not get any deeper, that I am honestly surprised in was not more of a public concern when the bush admin had the floor. The only difference in comparison to FO's story, is one or more different nations, and maybe but hopefully not an earlier date then autumn 2077 where you get jipped of halloween, thanksgiving and x-mas.
And Emperor:
I get your point, but not everyone living some place will agree to what their tax dollars are getting funded for, and know the future will haunt reality, this is any nation, not just one, while I don't know which issue we are refering to, either way I am stuck in that type of similar situation to what Devodeire said, even if I was not constrained int the US, I am in the same conflict that the US also in right now. Since WWII the US has sidelined numerous nations in times of various war that also costs the US lives and ecconomy. If one ongoing war was not bad enough, it almost looks like the US has more issues ahead. I have to prey this is not the case, because all the people around here spend everyday so off guard that they don't realize at any given time, they all can just be turned into dust, and not even realize the international conflicts surrounding them.
As for your comment Kalibos, without trying to attmept racial issues, let alone international conflicts, that community is torn on that topic, part of it, Obama's DNA is not exactly 100% of that, its a good amount, but I have heard some people say he is not enough, and something about him not acting the part, whatever that means. All I know is, he comes from the same gov party that failed Apprentice TV show contestant, Blago comes from, the man who tried to sell the president's former senate seat. Considering those facts, a lot of people felt you do not need to be smart to be a democrat, Blago does not even know how to use email and text, if you watched the Apprentice where that real alyx vance look-a-like kicked Blago's ass during the competition for the Universal studios Harry Potter theme park, you would of seen how Blago did not know how to use a smart phone, that Donald Trump seemed to fire him for this reason, rather then assume corruption. Whatever they are, Blago and Obama stem from that same party, and the only reason that Blago was not in more trouble, unlike the last ILL govenor, may have been the fact the feds did not want to have Blago say something that dragged Obama down. After democrat president Clinton was in so much heat that they almost felt like impeaching him, I am sure they did not want to have to go through all that paperwork and try to do something similar with Obama.
we need more pizza
One of the professors in the articles suggests the US pulls out of these places and focuses on national intrests. A fine idea in theory, but he of all people should know that it was that Exact thinking that led to the second world war. Germany figured they could get away with anything, then when the US let them Japan figured they were weak enough to be pushed out of the pacific.
Modern Society as a whole is built on "International Policemen" as the article calls them. The UN, NATO, ISAF, etc. all quite simply take military action off the table for the vast majority of nations by overseas projection of overwhelming power.

I would say there is a difference between british imperialism and american world policing.
So? Apparently people need a reminder of this fact.
Lets chill at home and fix our shit AND remind everyone as to why we have those super carriers cruising about.
Two birds, one stone.
There are really only two outcomes here:
1) The world works better without us cruising about. Which is great for us! We don't have to spend nearly as much money in the future on our defense budget! Go world! Even our relationships with major nations will benefit from this and we will get along with our European cousins that much better.
2) The world erupts in civil war and we are forced out of our military slumber. In this case we return to our previous strategies, only perhaps now we enlist the help of negative Nancy Europe in full force and we can get the job done more effectively and with a degree of accountability.
In either case, assuming we follow the evidence, the world, and the United States, would benefit as a whole. Win win!
Unless it is China who decides to go all WWII Germany and rape Europe and Japan before the US decides to do anything about it. In which case....oops?
This would be news if War wasn't the status quo. People have this delusion that Peace is the normal status of things, and that war is an interruption of it. But in reality War is the expected status, with the rare times of peace between them being uncommon.
In the last 300 years alone almost every major country in the world has been at war almost continuously. With globalization that amount only gets higher. War is the standard, not exception.
It may take a while for people to realize that, and only then can you really start working to prevent it.
Look at Spain in the Netherlands during the 1500s. They were fighting for a hundred years, but are still there now?
