What a scam!!11!1one
Fun fact: it costs a pizza place $2-3 to make a large deluxe pizza (depending on the quality), including the shipping of ingredients. Yet most charge $12-$18 for one.
No one is in uproar over the pizza places charging 500% markup are they? The one I work at, costs the company $3.14 for a large deluxe to be made yet we charge $17.5 for them on normal non-sale/coupon pricing.
But pizza is delicious!
Doesn't matter, that is way too large a margin to justify, no matter who you say it goes to.
Yeah because the only cost is assembly. It's not like they had to pay people for years to design it and test it. Oh, and advertising is free.
They'd have to sell a whole lot of those to get the money back they invested in development and marketing.
That's capitalism for you. You are not paying as much as it's worth, but as much as you (or the most people at highest price) are willing to pay.
Most companies have a 10% profit margin, and profit is revenue after expenses.
A 15 dollar profit on an item costing 56 dollars leaves 79 dollars for other expenses including retail markup.
To be honest, considering this is a brand new piece of technology, did you expect any less?
How much do you think your shoes or your clothes cost to make and ship?
People act like they're surprised, look at how much it takes to build a iphone. They charged hundreds, look at the ipad the same thing. Companies build shit to make money, they have large operations that cost money. They got to pay leases for buildings, utilities, wages, transportation, manufacturing - tons of overhead costs. People think they just magical produce products and make pure profit. Plus if you follow supply and demand. People are eating this shit up, so of course they're going to keep the prices up because PEOPLE WILL BUY IT. Soon enough it will slow down, therefor demand is down. To help boost the demand for the product they'll lower the price.
Yeah and then it costs money to ship them and repair the broken ones, on top of that they had to advertise and research and such.
It's not like that ~94 dollars is going straight to microsofts pocket.
That has nothing to do with the one being bought. That's a different thing all together because most likely they scrap broken one anyways. Unless it has salvageable parts in which case I better get that Kinect cheaper for being partially used.

They're not going to salvage any of it, it's cheaper to just make a new entire unit rather then having to pay someone to sort all the parts and re-build it. Plus if it breaks again it doesn't solve any problems.

And that is why the only time you see used products for sale is at EBGames under the section "Realized it was shit, here you take it."
It costs $150 to use the Kinect for 12 seconds.
...And then it breaks
See it doesn't matter how much it costs because in the end IT'S STILL FUCKING STUPID.
Still cheaper than anything Apple sells.
But yet somehow, more expensive than the Playstation Move. weird.

I don't get it, what's the point of even bringing that comparison up? Apple doesn't sell any product like the kinect, you can't compare anything, all this will do is cause a stupid heated pointless debate, way to go.
I'm still waiting to see if any decent games show up for Kinect. The retail price is no surprise to me though, I charge a significant amount on my own products, they take time to make.
A standard T-shirt from Abercrombie & Fitch costs around $35
Costs you your testicles as well
Costs you your testicles as well
And that's why I don't buy from them
My mom owns a clothing company, so I'm good

Pizza Pi.
greedy microsoft
I don't see how it's greedy at all. You should see Apple tax on the iphone 4 :/ $180 to make, and it's retail price is $1800+.

christ almighty why are you bringing apple in to this? ps you're wrong.
Previously, the New York Times reported that the first Kinect prototype cost Microsoft a whopping $30,000, some 200 times the price the company is selling the unit for. In that same report, Microsoft expressed its plan to sell each Kinect unit at a profit.
Imagine how much the retail would've costed :v:

what are you talking about
I'm pretty sure my brother bought it for like 350€ without a simcard
give a fuck
well apparently you all DO give a fuck.
I don't give a fuck either :v:
A computer costs 200 dollars to make while you buy it for 800.
And you guys think Microsoft is greedy?
It's just components, what about human work? That isn't going to pay itself.

I can get a large pizza for 5€ here.
Mostly because mostly places are owned by Turkish terrorists that drive the prices down and use their family as non-paid labour, but whatever. Yanks have Mexicans, abuse those.
It's still one of the cheapest RGB-D cameras available.

Justify? JUSTIFY?! Who the fuck ever had to justify the price of something?
If someone takes 10 grand for a simple pair of sandals, you call them retarded, not immoral. The same way you call people retarded if they think prices need to be justified, not regulated by the market.
Yep, And even thought the Australian $ is higher than the US it costs us fucking $200! Brilliant, Fuck this country.
