A holocaust denier can't dwell in Germany for long anyway. The real trick is underplaying the holocaust. Wasn't there a guy who called a holocaust memorial in Berlin a "disgrace" or something?
Pretty much this. Holocaust deniers know that they can't actually "deny the holocaust", but they underplay it by saying that maybe it didn't happen on such a large scale as it's been established it has, or maybe it was partially the jews fault, or maybe they even deserved it and maybe the nazis weren't such bad guys after all.
Lots of idiots for sure but in there article you mentioned, none of them was a holocaust denier.
The article points out that some of these individuals are in the same club of holocaust deniers or have or had contact to some at one point.
But not one of them is, according to this article a holocaust denier.
I am kind of assuming that being in a fraternity that actively invites Holocaust deniers, is watched by the Verfassungsschutz as an extremistic organisation.
But ok, he's not directly denying it. Maybe I was a bit quick there.
Have another article

Or Höcke defending one:

Or the party itself appointing a Holocaust denier to examining the writings of one of their members for antisemitism.

These people, when they say "Hitler did nothing wrong" they are not being ironic.

holy shit, how are these nazis in 3rd place? D:
What the fuck
Third place? Fuck off
Lol wtf the AfD's co-leader Frauke Petry walked out of their post-result press conference and declared she will sit as an independent because the party is a shithole

I'd be lying if I said this wasn't concerning, but as long as the AFD is kept away from creating laws, Germany shouldn't see another Enabling Act pop up.

Not untypical for parties like this.
I'm not so concerned that the AfD are in parliament, what'll matter is whether they can hold together for 5 years and can keep up the steam now that they're no longer merely a protest party.
Are there actual term limits in Germany nowadays? Because a third term over here is a little odd, let alone a FOURTH term.
Ok, I did a little browsing and apparently Germany has no term limits. Interesting.

The left (who I voted for) actually ended up having slightly more votes than the greens after all.
Either way, I'm not a fan of the CDU, but I don't really mind them winning either. I absolutely do dislike how much support the AfD has gotten, however.

That's great and all, but uhhhh I wonder how long that's been planned, because it's convenient to pull that card after obtaining a seat, but I have to wonder how long that took to decide. Because it's not as if the AfD was perfectly normal and then suddenly someone ran in the night before the election with a bucket of Nazi and splashed it over the party and everyone's shocked.

Term limits aren't really a thing outside of presidential systems

Most countries don't have strict term limits from what I've read. Here in Canada, Prime Minister's can serve for life if the public were to choose so, Russia has a two terms in a row system for Presidents, but they can serve an unlimited amount of terms in total I believe, and there are probably far more examples. Even the US didn't have term limits until after F.D.R (who won four elections in a row).
I don't know what it is worse, that AFD got third or that the left groups ( Die Linke and Die Grüne ) have lost voters.
Like seriously, the hell?

What's wrong with Die Linke losing voters?
Last time I checked they're too cozy about getting in bed with Russia

Didn't they gain votes tho?
Four more years!
It's her turn, over and over and over again.
Bit odd AfD gained so considerably at the expense of literally everyone else, though. What would make a person who normally votes for the Greens switch to AfD?

Strange, Syria has no nuclear power so you'd think the greens would want more refugees.
This seems like a direct result of extremist terrorism driving fear into politics., not that I can blame them for being tired of events in the last few years.
I could agree on less imigrants but other stuff AFD has planned nope
With the CDU shifting left this was unavoidable.

These sort of comments are ridiculous, no matter how much leftist screech and cherrypick, the AfD is not a Nazi party.
for gods sake, Alice Weidel is a lesbian
What concerns me more is the fact that the underlying reasons for why rightwing political beliefs are again gaining a foothold in Europe and the US are more or less ignored, with the center-left spectrum discarding everything and everyone as nazis, fascists or white supremacists and what have you.
I've come to think the childish leftist attitude is compounding the situation and further deflecting voters to the right. It's why Trump won ("deplorables" still have a vote you know). That being said, I myself have become increasingly right-leaning in the past 5 years, but I have yet to see a political party that would accurately represent my views that didn't have far right or religiously conservative policies. This leads me to believe right-leaning westerners in general are in a strange place when it comes to politics, because there are actually no proper right-leaning parties that have sensible, moderate views on the whole political spectrum. There's only conservative and far right or there's centre-left all the way to fucking communism. In this case, I reckon people simply vote for the lesser of all evils. One that, even remotely, stands for at least SOME of what they believe, even if the rest are shit. Because there is no alternative.

Lot's of protest voters for the AfD though, I recall hearing 50% or more of their voters are concerned about their rhetoric having "Nazi" undertones.

Yeah, Alice Weidel is also part of the moderate wing. Then you have Gauland. Btw, the party is currently also one of the few against same-sex marriage, and they don't want to support projects against right-wing extremism. Weird. They aren't all nazis, but they definitely use nazi rhetoric, and you shouldn't ignore that.
The CDU/CSU lost 8 or 9 percent. Calling that "Merkel's party wins" is... ambitious.
