นี่คือการทดสอบ <- This is thai
I would unironically say that we are playing god.
And it is good.

Nah, not really necessary. We could have messed with our DNA for ages, it's not really that different from messing with sheep and making piglets fluorescent. The issue is; who's going to tell the fucked up kids they won't ever live a normal life because somebody had to try how things work (because the genetic fiddling is still a huge hit and miss deal and we still fuck up a lot).
As far as I understand the main purpose of this research is that we can see what all we can actually do with DNA while it stays stable and functional, even tho we aren't really aiming for any specific effect.
Well if the kids don't know what normal life is outside a lab, does it really matter haha.
Inject this X/Y DNA into people.
Kind of, but not really. It's more like finding a different way to write letters we already have.
DNA is just a precursor the actual"letters" themselves, which are proteins.
Normally DNA contains the bases G - C and A - T. In this case they've created two new bases, which they're calling X and Y.
Woah woah woah. Ademine, thymine, gaunine and cytosine are not proteins. They are the monomers for DNA, and are translated into messenger ribonucleic acid, then transcribed into transfer ribonucleic acid for protein synthesis on the ribosome. DNA makes proteins, its base pairs are not proteins.
Geez
Perhaps we can finally change and enhance our comparatively useless human bodies to be stronger, faster, more intelligent or otherwise 'better'.
Raptor-humans forever! Better-protective snakeskin! Better eyesight! Actually useful claws for self defence instead of fingernails! Backup organs or enhanced ones! Better immune system or other senses such as hearing!
Its fantastic news. But yeah, I know its far more complicated than just that and there is a huge amount more effort involved in any such genetic modification. Just a shame we cant be 'better' on a biological level, today. We cant just go 'boom', Dinosaur-hermaphroditic-super-strength-super-fast-regenerating-never-aging-intelligent-and-superior-People.
Billshit. A punch card with a fortran program on it can be alien genetics. Hell, my shit can be alien genetics. All of this, of course, provided that the hypothetical alien can store it within, read it and use for evolution.
Oh wait, last time I checked aliens are still hypothetical. My shit is alien DNA. Win.
I dont think you understand the concept of DNA.

Deoxyrhinonuclear acid or some shit

is it... radioactive? dur durududuruuduh uuh HURRRRR
[editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
All joking aside (everything I have written above), the only thing I understood about the article is that they were able to add new groups to DNA, apart from the Guanine-Cytosine compliment and Adenine-Thymine

Haha I just pictured all you saps scrambling to your wiki pages just to find the meaning of what I wrote, save the few true biomasters that must be on these forums.
Woah woah woah.
You've misunderstood what I said. I said that DNA is the precursor to proteins. The "letters" part was part of the analogy.

Isn't that pretty standard stuff tho

jokes on u i bought a book instead
We could literally create an alien species who lives only to serve humans.

Like.. dogs in a way, but not exactly.
