Oh, you weren't joking? Well fuck.
It's not happening, it's just not really all that possible with any implementations of BSP that Valve use, their lighting system, and their visibility culling system. Well, maybe if you were okay with minor pauses between editing and being able to actually test it while it recompile automatically anyway.
Hammer is dated, but it still does its job pretty well I think. It can't really do much more, the engine itself is holding it back more than anything. Dated level formats are great.
Looks like someone hasn't heard of Foundry.
I want custom maps and gamemodes for DOTA 2 that would be as easy to do as it was on War3 World Editor.
Let the Warcraft 3 survive.
I really want to know why Valve has not fixed all the issues with hammer yet. Do they no longer care about their modding community?
My hope is that they're focusing on Source 2 and its Hammer.

You'd need Dota2 campaign like in WC3.
Then custom maps based on that.. like the custom DotA gamemode.. which Dota2 is based on..
Yeah it gets weird.

Goldsrc only, but it's the best you can have right now
alternatively, there is another custom level editor being developed at TF2maps.net, but it's far from relase
I'd strongly suggest, if you or anyone else is actually interested in sledge, to download it from this thread as the program creator regularly visits there and takes suggestions/comments/criticisms.
one of the goals is to support source so it's definitely heading that way.

it did a good job in the 80's
I can do work 50 times faster on modern engines like unreal engine and cryengine
Because frankly, people don't care about new SDKs or additions to it with absolutely niche functions, when the core of the SDK utterly stinks more or less.
The term SDK means "Source Development Kit." The Source part of that has nothing to do with Valve's engine, Source. Which is why the thing you're thinking of is the "Source SDK", not the "SDK"
So this new VR SDK is completely unrelated from the Source SDK

Whilst Foundry is cool and everything. Can you edit the brushwork in real time? Are changes to lighting propagated properly? If not, it's a glorified Garrys' Mod with even less functionality. It's nowhere near a proper real-time editor.

Source Source Development Kit.
Does this mean it will be easier to make older games compatible?
Source Source Development Kit.
Correct
... Software Development Kit.

I'm not denying that, I know Hammer is dated and shit :v: But considering what engine it's working with, it still works pretty well.
I...
I think I'm not going to get a WiiU/PS4/etc. now, and instead, my big stupid luxury gaming splurge money is going to go towards a consumer-edition Rift once they're available.
I was interested in the Rift before, but this is a different situation now.
It won't be that expensive too! In an article, they said that it will be loads cheaper than the dev version (which was $300). They also said that they want minimal profit, and would make if free if they could.
I am guessing it will cost around at a maximum of $150-200
... Software Development Kit.
I may be an idiot but at least I knew SDK didn't mean has to be related to valve!

$150 is still "stupid luxury gaming splurge money" to me, but, yes, that's one of the advantages of waiting for a consumer release. And then there's waiting for the second-gen if you can't handle paying for early adopter pain.
As of May 2011, one of Valve's largest projects is the development of new content authoring tools for Source.[1] These will replace the current outdated tools, allowing content to be created faster and more efficiently. Studio head Gabe Newell has described the creation of content with the engine's current toolset as "very painful" and "sluggish".[30]
What the fuck happened to this?

Puuuuuuuuuuuure speculation here, but held back to go with Source 2 instead? Hopefully not abandoned.
