Steam isn't even DRM tbh. And you realise that they don't download all the games from the Valve servers right? It's still piracy.
Steam is a DRM. A good one that is. It may not stop every cracker out there, but atleast valve understand that that is not possible and doesn't continue to update the protection with shit that will annoy the fuck out of customers.
But what the fuck, do game developers only get the chance to release one free update? Jesus christ microsoft.
While I love xbox live, Microsoft needs to get their heads out of their asses.

Actually they do, but in very clever ways.
The orangebox update completely destroyed the nonsteam enviorment, because everyone updated their servers, and pirates are fucking stupid so they were too lazy to update clients, bam tons of servers and players went gone.
Also, valve made it a year ago or so, that you most own a game to download it through the steam client, meaning progams such as pacsteam hardly works anymore.

Microsoft are one of the largest companies on the planet and yet they need to increase revinue from some console they made 4 years ago.
SIR! WE'RE LOSING CUSTOMERS!
RAISE THE PRICE!
Fuck Microsoft, as soon as I heard about the price increase I got rid of the piece of shit and got myself a PS3
They speak the truth.
I have an Xbox and I like it, but come-on, 60$ for Xbox LIVE?
Oh, and before the storm starts:

Why do I find that cute? :raise:
Now if only Sony and Valve combined the best bits of PSN and the best bits of Steam and put the result onto PS3 and PCs.
Steam is a DRM, that's the whole point of steam. It's not great at actually being a DRM, but it's great at being unintrusive and not a dick like most others on the market today.
No, Steam is a distribution platform. Nearly all of the games don't require Steam to be running to play so I don't see how that's DRM.
Wait, if Microsoft requires you to charge for updates, couldn't Valve just charge, say, $0.01, just to piss them off?
Why do I find that cute? :raise:
because the wii is like :3:
That makes everything 100 times more cute than it should be.
Now if only Sony and Valve combined the best bits of PSN and the best bits of Steam and put the result onto PS3 and PCs.
Was thinking about this, What if they instituted a system for the PS3 like they have for the PC and Mac?
Buy the game once and you can play it on anything.
probably won't happen but dammit a man can dream.
Wait, if Microsoft requires you to charge for updates, couldn't Valve just charge, say, $0.01, just to piss them off?
I'm pretty sure microsoft has a set of rules on prices for DLCs.
Valve is a small developer, they're awesome, but they're not as renowned/well known as Bungie/IW.
Small developer with a HUGE influence in the industry. Microsoft is a huge corporation losing its hold, so they won't listen no matter what. The 'I know best because I am most platforms' thing. Not that they're right.
A console has no use to me, but if I were to get one a PS3 seems to be pretty decent.
Meanwhile at the [del]legion of doom headquarters[/del] Microsoft:

np, looks like a flying turd, its usuall around the microsoft hq
People keep saying Steam is a bad DRM because people can crack it so easily. That's not the point. Steam is so successful because it's a fast and easy way to get games and doesn't fuck the customers over. Steam isn't trying to stop the pirates by making it hard for them to crack it; it stops them by making it worth it to purchase your own games.

This man speaks the truth.
But VAC is a huge deterrent to pirates IMO
It'll be fun to see Xbox 360 fanboys cry
No, Steam is a distribution platform. Nearly all of the games don't require Steam to be running to play so I don't see how that's DRM.
Eh, no? All games registered through Steam require it to run (some exceptions are bound to exist however). The binary files are modified to invoke Steam. Try running STALKER (non-Valve game) with Steam shut down; it will attempt to connect to your account prior to launch unless you pulled some magic tricks.

"That money from Sony must've been good."
"lol xbox hate"
"Mmmm Sony's money tastes sooo good doesn't it Gabe?"
Jesus...
So very much a DRM. The point with Steam isn't to make games impossible to pirate, but rather to make piracy the worser option by not screwing customers over with intrusive DRM schemes and excessive charges.

You're right, but what I meant was that they don't update it in ways that is annoying for you and me. I guess I was a bit unclear
Current console lineup sucks.
1 Doesnt have any games
1 Doesnt have any performance
1 has crappy online support and is unreliable.
The live price is too much but I love playing my Xbox. Living in the UK I don't get the increase and I can afford it, it's nothing when you compare it to what you earn.
But Christ, if Valve abandoned Xbox completely, I would play it a lot less.
"If you don't want people to pirate your games, make good, quality games."
Yeah. I'd buy a steam game any day.
The fanboyism here is embarrassing, you should all feel bad, how old are you all.
This applies to Xbox-fanboys and sony-fanboys.
Oh wow so they are angry about forcibly getting money from forced paid dlc's?
I can respect that.
So DLC on the PS3 will be free while Live users have to pay? lol.
[editline]10:03PM[/editline]
90% of Live users have their parents pay for it anyway so they don't care.
