To the people who complain so much about the price of XBL, it's $60 for an ENTIRE YEAR.
I'm no Microsoft fanboy, but $5 a month is so insignificant when you look at all the features presented to you, and the (relative) ease it is all presented with.
I would LOVE if it was free, and Microsoft is just twisting our arms because they know we will pay, but it's a next to nothing price for a pretty usable online experience, and complaining about it won't solve any of our problems (No matter how much they charge, there will ALWAYS be loads of 12 year olds complaining to mommy about how $300 is totally OK for CoD).
"M$" is nothing to do with it, it's to do with the system. It has 512MB of shared memory, and TF2 without any additions was nearing that limit.
If they did a lot of optimisation they could pull it off, but they couldn't publish it.
Way to totally miss the point, it's not that Gabe is too cheap, it's that everyone else is.
i bet he's cheap.:haw: i bet he is.:mmmsmug:

I'd say $5 is expensive when you consider the fact that the competition offers almost the same service for free.
Wait Till they start to notice when no one decide to support xbox live soon or later. I mean it's like talking to a brick wall with these people. No point until you do something about it, and stop supporting their live expensive.
I have an Xbox, and yeah.. MS just wants money for every single fucking thing.. Come on, sigh....

Ding!
We have a Winah!.
[editline]01:54AM[/editline]
and it's exactly the same service.

Next to nothing price for pretty usable online experience?
So your paying... For a non-great service? Steam has a great service, and it's free.

You have a point, but the reason why everyone complains is because PSN offers almost exactly the same thing but for free. And then microsoft comes and makes xlive even more expensive.
Valve is still the best game developer I can think of.
I don't know Bioware is pretty awesome.
Steam isn't even DRM tbh. And you realise that they don't download all the games from the Valve servers right? It's still piracy.
Steam is DRM.
I don't understand why more people are not aware of this.
[editline]10:34AM[/editline]
No, Steam is a distribution platform. Nearly all of the games don't require Steam to be running to play so I don't see how that's DRM.
You are talking about non-Valve games that do not actually use Steam for DRM, but other DRM types (or none).
Steam is DRM.
I don't know Bioware is pretty awesome.
They would be even more awesome if they stopped dumbing down the PC ports of their games.
They speak the truth.
I have an Xbox and I like it, but come-on, 60$ for Xbox LIVE?
Oh, and before the storm starts:

Too bad it doesn't go like that in actuality :(
If anyone can be trusted for holding a monopoly on game distribution, it's Valve, certainly not Microsoft.
Depends on the game. I have no problems running Fallout 3 or Oblivion without bothering with Steam. However, any Valve game will require it, and I haven't really tried many others.

If STALKER Is in the /common folder in Steamapps, you can run the .exe there without needing steam open :v:
Did you try it? Just to clear this up, I tried all games in my common folder. List of games that would NOT open without Steam:

Battlefield 2

Bioshock

Cryostasis

Left4Dead

Left4Dead 2

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

Osmos

Psychonauts (even gave the error prompt "Failed to find Steam")

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

STALKER: Clear SKy

The Witcher
The one only game which would run without me being connected to my Steam account was Flotilla - an indie game. Let's just conclude that Steam is in all ways a DRM software, albeit a special kind.
[editline]05:59PM[/editline]
alphabetic list?? oh wll

If Steam is DRM then it's not very good.
I swear, they just raise the fucking price of XBL and their only explanation is "HURR WELL WE KEEP ADDING CONTENT LIKE NEW DOWNLODABLE FEETURS, HURR"
NO SHIT YOU ADD CONTENT YOU'RE FUCKING SUPPOSED TO DO THAT
Do they think that people would use the fucking internet if it was never updated?
Microsoft is full of fucking pricks.

I don't see why the internet has anything to do with it. M$ don't own / run / didn't create it.
If you're playing a Valve game on a console rather then PC, you're doing something wrong
I own both copies buy prefer the Xbox version. I know, I know, call me crazy. The PC version is better, it's just I have grown up using a controller and I'm more comfortable with it than a mouse.
Use an Xbox controller on the PC then.

I played HL2 with a PS3 controller.

This is one case that this phrase is appropriate.
PS3 - Free online play, also includes more media in the store, and access to web browers.
Xbox 360 - Cost online play, everything down-loadable costs money even updates, OH I AM SORRY, PS3 doesn't have facebook.

Lol.
Live has so much more in it's store, hardly any updates cost money, and there are plenty of free things on the marketplace.

PS3 does have Facebook. You let it post trophies and purchases automatically and you can just use the browser for everything else.
[editline]01:31AM[/editline]
You can let it post*
They don't have the best DRM people have been able to crack steam and get all the games.
Not without getting hacked.

It would be awesome if valve payed hackers to put tons of fake hacks on the web to root out the pirates.
