Yes it's an outdated way of seeing the world.
Although it led to the creation of many rather failed states, it doesn't mean we can learn from it. Applying it today though is quite bad.
I see Robert Owen as a better spokesman for socialism than Karl Marx.

Robert Owen was a Luddite.
The Entire point of Marxism is the working classes taking control of the means of production instead of the capitalists in [i]industrial[/i] based societies (since we still live in one) which is why it still applies today.
