Yeah I mean most unarmed buglers tend to go into a violent invincible rage when they get shot, so you should always shoot to kill :downs:
It's not like anyone would go for the leg or anything, you're better off going for the torso instead of trying to hit a relatively smaller target.
Depending on the gun (bolt action, pump action) a miss could be really fatal, and could give the burglar a chance to get the gun and turn the tables.
Also, I can imagine it is hard to remain calm when there's a burglar in your house.
It's self defense. This person is breaking into your home.
Wow, I'd be worried about the kid managing to get the gun so quickly.
I know where all MY Dad's guns are and how to use them.
I wouldn't think twice about getting one if someone tried to break in.
Eh, guns are overrated. I like to keep this bad boy around the house for my safety.
or the 12 year old getting a hold of one day and accidentally shooting himself/someone else
also, technically it's illegal to leave a firearm accessible to a minor
this cop should know better
I think having the law of having it inaccessible to a minor has been justifiably broken.

This.
I think if every American were to leave a gun within reach of children, the kid killing self/other kid to the Kid shooting intruder ratio would be pretty highly in favor towards the kid simply harming himself or other innocent people since they don't really understand death.
Though, 15 and 12 years old is sort of borderline for being able to trust them with a gun around. If they were trained properly with gun usage, it probably wouldn't be a big deal..
Heres what would happen if a burglar went by innerfires logic
Burglar: *Comes in and disregards the fact that anyone's there and starts stealing shit*
Family: *Calls the cops*
Burglar: *Walks outside to see a police car and cops standing right there to arrest them.*

Blast.
Hey guys we should all be happy this is a situation where no one was killed and a gun was used in a positive way.
Stop the arguing share the wealth free love.
I would much rather fucking lose a TV and some jewelry, escape with my life, and not kill someone.
Of course facepunch is full of 13 year olds and the thought of having all of the nice stuff their parents earned being taken away, even if only for a few weeks until it's bought again, makes them want to shoot people

Man, you gotta learn to transcend your possessions man.
Who cares if everything you owned is gone, you have no money, and your house is burned down, the good thing is that you didn't have to potentially risk a life to defend any of it.

But...but...
Personal firearm ownership for self defense is BS...that other informed FPer said so...

If this happened in the UK, those kids would be dead, methinks.

I already do, and it's spelled Sonny
This topic (to shoot or not to shoot) is so old - and opposing sides will never agree.
To US people I realise the right to bear arms and to protect your property are core to your beliefs, and it must seem strange to you that anyone would disagree. Nevertheless there are people who disagree and they are allowed to put their opinion forward as long as they do so in a reasonable manner. It is not trolling to disagree with the use of firearms to protect property, and I only banned innerfire because he started trying to provoke people with silly answers.
Please discuss this news story reasonably and without flaming or trolling, or the thread will almost certainly be closed.
There i corrected your mistake
Not normal logic. INNERFIRES logic.
Yeah guys, insulting a moderator seems really smart, let's all do that.
