It was new to me until just now, but there seem to be reports suggesting that: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20110225/local/gaddafis-son-join-pro-democracy-protesters-reports.351948 wikipedia: "During the Libyan uprising, Saif al-Arab was sent by his father to the eastern part of Libya to put down the protests. Combat troops and military equipment were placed at his disposal. It was reported that he later defected to the rebel side along with the troops under his command, though this is unconfirmed."
If this is true, the man died a hero and he should be recognized as such. [editline]30th April 2011[/editline]
They shouldn't be aiming at Gaddafi, NATO are out there to keep the skies clear and civilians safe not to assassinate Gaddafi.
Goes hand in hand...
:sax: I can't wait for his next "speech".
If this is true, the man died a hero and he should be recognized as such.
It's not.
Because these are surgical strikes and intervention to stop death, not cause more of it. Accidents happen, but stuff like this just shouldn't happen. It doesn't matter who they were, they could just easily have been schoolchildren had the strike been attempted in a different part of the city.
Well they weren't school children. And this isn't NATOs fault. Sure, they dropped the bomb, but their intentions to do just that have been kinda clear all along, the fault lies at Gaddafis son, who was somehow retarded enough to keep his children near a military target.
If this is true, the man died a hero and he should be recognized as such. [editline]30th April 2011[/editline] Goes hand in hand...
Not legally it doesn't.
I wouldn't be surprised if this asshole of a human being purposely had his own sons in a villa where he was supposedly living so they can be his personal meatshields or maytr. Unfortunately, NATO called their bluffs, Gadaffi somehow escaped the strikes while his sons didn't, coincidence?
The BBC were speculating a little while ago that Gaddafi may not have even been there but they are playing the "our great leader is invincible" card. The BBC's reporter who got taken to see it said that it would be amazing if anyone had gotten out of it alive, and from the footage they showed it seemed to be pretty badly shook up.
Have they actually confirmed this with corpses, Gadaffi is the kind of man who might fake something like this to get some sympathy and support.
No independent confirmation it seems, I doubt there will be for a while. Apparently the Libyan authorities are taking the media back to the villa tomorrow so they can see the damage during daylight. Maybe I am cynical but I would not be surprised if the damage was somehow made worse. The BBC reporter that saw the damage also said that the villa is inside a sort of walled community with military guards, suggesting its not an average residential area in Tripoli. NATO could argue that there was some sort of command and control facility in that compound and that's why they hit it. Or they might come out and say "we tried to kill Gaddafi", but I can't see that happening.
How old were those 3 killed grandchildren of his? It'd suck hard if they were still kids. No child, no matter what family or position, deserves a fate like that.
no 1 does
I feel bad for the mother. God knows what he will do now.
Make another hour long rambling tirade.
This is the result of an illegal act. It was agreed that Gadaffi would not be targeted himself but now that they have killed his son and three of his grandsons, I wouldn't blame him for unleashing all hell upon the opposition. Awesome work, NATO, make another country hate us.
yes with all of their tan- OH WAIT.
By the way, in 1986 Gaddafi claimed someone in his family had been killed by an air strike when in reality they hadn't. This could be a similar tactic.
Poor Gaddafi, my condolences to him. Please stop rating this funny, he may be an asshole but he lost his fucking son.
I wonder how many sons Gaddafi has killed. Probably a fucking heap.
Gaddafi may be an idiot, but I feel sorry for anyone who loses their son.
Poor Gaddafi, my condolences to him. Please stop rating this funny, he may be an asshole but he lost his fucking son.
Because hundreds of other people haven't lost close friends and family members because of Gaddafi.
At first I honestly thought it was Saif al-Islam, the bald one. Still shocking to hear.
Alright NATO is over stepping there limitations the UN never gave them the right to do this.
Regime change isn't the military objective? It's all about protecting civilians? Bullshit. We're there to kill Gaddafi and install another puppet.
owned
I was reading the wikipedia page on Gaddafi, and I found this quote to be quite humorous.
In 1971, Gaddafi offered to merge Libya with Sudan, but Sudanese President Gaafar Nimeiry turned down that offer. Nimeiry said of Gaddafi: "He has a split personality—both parts evil."

Alright NATO is over stepping there limitations the UN never gave them the right to do this.
You cannot say that when there is no information other than (possibly extremely biased) reports from the Libyan government and media that have been guided by the Libyan government. None of us have any idea what was near that building, it is entirely possible that there is / was some command and control facilities around the building. The BBC reported that the entire place around the villa was heavily fortified with the military guarding it. For all we know Gaddafi could be using his family as meat shields. Its also possible that (as someone suggested earlier) that its a bunch of lies and no one was there (although this seems unlikely, the BBC reported that it was a house and that things like the TV were still on, possibly staged although apparently it took longer than usual for the Libyan government to take them to the bomb site)
I wonder how many sons Gaddafi has killed. Probably a fucking heap.
So? How many people did Ted bundy kill? If he had a son would is son be liable for his fathers actions?
I thought they where only supposed to target soldiers in direct contact with civilian areas.
No they are allowed to do anything (short of a ground invasion) to prevent civilian casualties, this can include crippling the Libyan government's command and control structure.
Not accepting this until there's a non-Libyan-government source. Gaddafi's lied about dead family members before.
An eye for an eye?
More like ten thousand eyes for an eye
Regime change isn't the military objective? It's all about protecting civilians? Bullshit. We're there to kill Gaddafi and install another puppet.
Except that the National Transitional Council already has a leader that wasn't installed by NATO, and he'll most likely be the one to take over after the war's end. I can't imagine the rebels would like having some new leader just put in power.
So from "no fly zone" to "(attempted) assassinations".....
So from "no fly zone" to "(attempted) assassinations".....
As said before, the point of the NFZ is too protect civilians, that means destroying tanks, shooting down jets, and crippling the government.
As said before, the point of the NFZ is too protect civilians, that means destroying tanks, shooting down jets, and crippling the government.
There is a surprising amount of things that can be reasoned into "protecting the citizens" and then into "No fly zone" It would be much nicer if NATO said what their intentions were instead of leaving it open to debate.
Hold on did I miss something? I thought his son died in a hospital from that pilot crash in like March?
A lot of his sons have similar looking names.
Hold on did I miss something? I thought his son died in a hospital from that pilot crash in like March?
This one is Saif al-Arab Gaddafi. That one was Khamis al-Gaddafi although his death is unconfirmed.
