This is almost more abhorrent than the current economic situation in NK. Basically slave labour. Essentially this illustrates little change between the kim reign and the proposed commercial takeover.
I would also hope that the UN would step in and stop something like that from happening.
I don't know if you noticed but in China that made huge swathes of poor people into middle class people. You can not overnight make poor people into middle class people. It has to happen over a long time.
as far as I can see the only way to have korean reunification would be to have the north remain a separate nation while they get rebuild by the UN or something

I don't really think China's a very good example of helping poor people considering their human rights and working/living condition records there. They've done a massive amount but it's nothing as monumental as you're making it out to be. Maybe in 20 years China will have caught up to the U.S. but that's still leagues behind actually progressive countries.

Except the only thing keeping a lot of Norks from flooding across the border as refugees is the fact that the government there will kill their entire fucking blood line if they do basically. So really, you'd have to force them to stay up north and rebuild, which isn't really all that cool either. Reunification will be a cluster fuck. Yeah, a lot of people will want to stay and build their country into actual greatness, but then you still have those that just want to leave, and that's not even accounting for those that are actually brainwashed by their state propaganda.
It's a sad fucking situation that we've created and are going to be fucked by for years to come because we just had to act like a bunch of dumb, war hungry apes who couldn't just get along.

Yeah and it only cost them 20-40 million people. China is perhaps not the best example.

What a stupid argument.
Did you notice that happened in 1960? And that China only opened up to Western manufacturing in the 1990s?

South Korea would make sure they have proper working conditions.
And I'm not pretending China is at the US's level, but the US has been doing this over more than 100 years. China are almost there after less than 20 years.
Nothing is going to transpire from this as per usual. It's North Korean Sabre Rattling at it's finest.

Chinas growth is all on their east coast, its interior region is still in the 1900s for all intensive purposes and its getting worse as time goes on because the manufacturing jobs that lifted people out of poverty there are increasingly being filled by the already large east coast population so they're going to be stuck in poverty with little education opportunity or employment opportunity. Also china fakes their currency and debt levels, their massive growth has been put on a debit card, which will need to be paid eventually

Isn't the expression 'intends and purposes'? Intensive purposes sounds very... Dire.

Well, first of all, let me tell you that EVERY god damn country in this planet, lives on a credit card. No state, no public economy, can sustain the massive quantity of public works and constructions without asking somebody for money. Not even the US.
Now, these debts, aren't all set to be paid the same day, they must be paid overtime and some of them with different interest rates.
The difference lies on the ability of each country to pay in time and what was accorded. That's the difference between, say, USA, and Argentina.
While the internal and external debt of the USA is 100000000000x times bigger than that of Argentina, they "kept their word" most of the time and paid back. Of course, if the US wanted, and everyone agreed to sacrifice 3 or 4 years of their lives, they could pay back everything with taxing 100% the whole country for those years.
Argentina instead, is quite shitty at paying debts. The 2001 default was because we weren't able to pay most of our debts, and the other amount, we decided we wouldn't pay it as it would leave things worse.
What China has been doing, and this answer is for DRAUGUR, is taking advantage of their HUGE and COLOSSAL quantity of labor available and their untapped primary resources.
Why? Well, because, when the Party decided to liberalize and open the markets, they didn't add any workers right or whatever (In fact, to be a "Communist" or "pro proletariat" country in papers, their regime is 1000x times more abusive towards workers than an average "capitalist" or "anti proletariat" country), so, in economic terms or "Where should Donald Trump put his money?", it makes it EVEN more attractive.
Combine these:
-A state that will happily ensure nobody fucks with you, and will keep your capital well protected. Contrary to say, your average African State that can't assure you no homies will come shouting allahu akbar and blow up everything.
-Abundant primary goods, heavily subsided by the state, which in turns lowers the logistical costs, which in turns lowers everything else.
-So many people, that if you say "I'll pay you guys 10 dollars", somebody else will come up and say "I'll work for you for 9$". In short: People giving a fuck about fucking everybody else. Of course, said salary, has to be higher than the average rural salary.
Boom, this has been happening for the last 30-20 years, and now we're seeing the results. In fact, Chinese average salary has skyfuckingrocketed.
And regarding China's catchup with the US....that solely depends on the US. As I have argued beforehand, if the US doesn't somehow make education free and inclusive for all (not saying everybody can pass school with a 3, which happens in turn here...), then China will completely fuck over you guys. The amount of knowledge they will be producing with the quantity of population they have combined with their totally nationalistic fervour.....it will be nasty. Take into account they've been doing some successful cyber warfare operations.
And regarding North Korea.....a war will erupt sooner or later. It's just the logic of their little power game.
They MUST up the ante so everybody goes crazy and starts saying "OMFG the North Koreans will THIS time blow us up! Gib monies and help!".
So, if you have noticed, their dick waving is each time more aggressive and provocative. If they keep the same level, nobody will give a fuck.

It's "for all intents and purposes".
