Really cool. Wonder if it works? For 200k it better.
that thing is quite literally made of wood scraps and put together with home depot screws, anyone who isn't into computers would dismiss it as an old school/home project or some other form of worthless junk (it's also quite literally a home project, I think those particular ones are the ones Wozniak built by hand back when Apple operated out of a garage.)
I'm under the impression that, functionally, the original apple computers didn't fare too well over the years. I don't think that most of them work anymore. Though, at the same time, I wonder if they'd be easy to repair. I mean, they were built in a garage after all. I guess it's also a question of whether replacing internal components would damage the historical value of the computer, though it would be neat if it were possible.
Oh cool my city finally on the news.
Anyway aren't a lot of people just going to show up and try to claim the reward.
I guess they know how she looks like based on this
A South Bay recycling firm is looking for a woman who, in early April, dropped off boxes of electronics that she had cleaned out from her house after her husband died.
You can build the computational guts of the things with a handful of chips which may/may not be available anymore.
You mean this?

Because someone bought it and restored it as much as they could. Can't find the images of that, though.
Wasn't this proved to be fake? Or am I thinking a different Kar?

I thought there was a similar Mosin situation that was proven to be fake. Granted, those are a dime a dozen depending on the model.
Reminds me of that guy on /k/ that ruined a WWII looted luger with sandpaper
I am genuinely curious about this and why they'd even think it's ok to do that.

Get rid of rust, polish the metal or something?
I know they always talk about people using steel wool on old guns on Pawn Stars and how shitty that makes it
Damn, ninja'd, but I was kind of right
It continues to boggle my mind how people can just throw shit away like this.
Like even if you know nothing about technology, who looks at something like this and goes "well it's obviously not worth taking to an appraiser to get it checked out before I chuck it."
Makes you wonder how many pieces of history like this really do get destroyed because someone couldn't bother to get it checked out.
Posts like these lack perspective. Not everyone knows the history of technology, or guns, or art, etc. If I didnt know better I'd throw this away too. No one is going to be bothered to get something they deem trash checked out.
This isnt the antiques road show.

I can totally understand it. If I were looking at this from the point of view of someone who isn't into tech past what kind of phone I'm using, I'd say it looks like a kid took an old keyboard, screwed some wood boards into place, and spent a few minutes cutting out "APPLE" for a science project.
People do this with guns all the time too. A family member dies, a person who doesn't care for guns comes into possession of one, and suddenly that antique weapon is sold to a furnace for $50. At least the computer had a better fate.
That reminds me of that guy who inherited an authentic ww2 german pistol in like near mint condition, BEAUTIFUL AS ALL HELL, and then proceeded to fuck it all up.
