• Valve ‘Probably’ Done With Single-Player Games
I would hate it if Valve did this. I need my dose of singleplayer games. When I first played L4D and L4D2, I went through all the levels singleplayer, and I had a ton of fun. With Portal 2, I don't give a shit for co-op, I tried it with a friend and it's not as fun as I thought, then I tried co-op with random people online and the only people I was matched up with were people who disconnected, mic spammers, etc. My experience with co-op is a shitty one.
IT STILL HAS SINGLEPLAYER AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I think you are guys are missing the whole direction, it's great they announced it or whatever, but they've been moving this direction for years. "We don't offer games, we are a service" That's Activision right? Wrong. The first company to use this statement was Valve. Valve is moving towards the same markets as others, such as handhelds and mobiles, and for the most part that kind of entails a multiuser paradigm. The Valve that you grew up with is gone, and has been for a while. Valve is a huge company now, and they have been for a while. They're going to do the things big companies do, because that's the kind of thing they need to keep generating income and finding new sources to mine, because that's the kind of logistics they operate under now. Valve isn't a game company anymore. They're an electronic device service provider that happens to sell games.
If they slap a MP component to their single player franchise (such as coop mode for EP3), not only that no one would mind the change, but they would also like the feature as a "bonus" to the game
Bundle it with a third HL: Deathmatch
You could use the gravity gun to remove people's hats and kill them with it
Singleplayer > Multiplayer any day of the week in my book
Singleplayer games have no replayability.
I think they simply mean that there will always be possible to play what you play in singleplayer as multiplayer as well.
Singleplayer games have no replayability.
Sometimes they have.
Singleplayer games have no replayability.
I've played HL2 dozens of times and I've loved every minute of it.
Let me quote myself.
"Isolated" as in you're isolated in both portal 1 and 2, you are stuck underground in test chambers. Therefore it is an "isolated single-player experience".
And as for the MP, it will probably be just like Half-life 1 and 2, with a deathmatch counter-part.
Why? Do you have no friends to play multiplayer with? Why do you guys hate multiplayer? How does that even make any fucking sense? It's better to have some features than not have them, it's not like Valve is going to skimp on the singleplayer just because they're making a multiplayer
because multiplayer is full of retards
God. Fucking. Dammit. Oh well, at least I still have Bethesda...
I think this thread warrants the return of Bad Reading. It doesn't mean that Valve will stop doing Singleplayer campaigns, it will just mean that Singleplayer games will have a multiplayer component in that game.
I'm very dissatisfied with Valve's priorities in year 2010 and 2011. It doesn't feel like the company I loved anymore.
What's the name of that single-player/multiplayer game they were sponsoring a while ago, I can't remember it Maybe they'll do something like that for EP3

I think it got cancelled or put on hold.
I'm not a major fan of single player games but this is just stupid.
We'll not gonna say I like the sound of it. However, I'm not going to judge it all yet, I'll do all of that with their next game.
To me, this hints that there won't be an Episode 3. But Half-life 3 that will come with Half-Life 3: Deathmatch within the game, rather than deathmatch being its own game. Which is good, in my eyes.

To promise to do 3 episodic releases for a series and then only release 2 episodes and go straight onto Half Life 3 takes away corporate credibility from Valve. It would make them look like they don't plan things properly and lack organisation.
It would make them look like they don't plan things properly and lack organisation.
Ever heard of Valve time?
"No isolated single player experience" means no singleplayer. There probably will be a coop campaign that you can play alone, but it will still be meant as a coop campaign. The sad part? They're doing this due to that hat bullshit. Hats don't sell if other players can't see it, and they are making a ton of money off of them.

It's better to have some features than not have them, it's not like Valve is going to skimp on the singleplayer just because they're making a multiplayer
1) My internet connection sucks, I can't play multiplayer online 2) it's harder to get immersed in a game with someone else in the room (you become more aware of yourself like that) 3) Valve always throw the pc splitscreen out the window so even if I'm playing it with a friend it's bugged I love singleplayer games because I don't have to deal with any of the above :(
Episode 3 will probably come with some updated Rebels vs Combine mode, it'd be like HL2:DM but with all the new technology and more gameplay elements. I think this is more likely as having coop for main campaign of Half Life Episode 3 with Alyx and Gordon would ruin the Singleplayer narrative that the Half Life Series has retained for such a long time. Besides that, I am just not a big fan of multiplayer games.

I'm more hoping they don't put in separate story lines like Portal 2, or at least if they do they won't drop splitscreen support for PC
This could turn out really bad, or really great. Seeing as how it's Valve, I'm guessing for the latter. Just finish EP3 already jesus christ
I'm not gonna lie, those who cursing Valve off, you're like wife.
You could use the gravity gun to remove people's hats and kill them with it
I would buy it, just for the ability to do exactly that.
All I want is the ending to Half Life then Valve can go on taking half a decade to make some more hats for TF2.
