Episode 3 will be a multiplayer only team deathmatch with Team Gordon vs Team Combine. The story will be told inbetween rounds and map loadings.
On average, I much prefer multiplayer to singleplayer. Then again, there are singleplayer game woudl crash in multiplayer. Much like Half-Life. I guess Valve is shifting its market.
Holy shit, Half life 3 coop? Imagine that...
Why is Valve complicating things. Half-life was great, as well as all its components. So was Half-life 2, and with Half-life 2, Team Fortress 2 also gained a great appreciation, mostly because they created a lot of creative free class updates etc, only bad thing about those times was that they didn't sell them in the MannCo store that wasn't even invented back then, alongside with having them droppable in-game for free.
Maybe they should ship a heavily updated version of HL2:DM with it that includes maps from EP1, EP2 and EP3. And a lot of other features
Holy shit, Half life 3 coop? Imagine that...
I will accept it only if it's a sidestory with rebels or some shit. Playing with gordon and someone else would be really anticlimatic. Seeing someone jumping like mad all over the place while "cutscene" plays is not very fun. Not to mention I have no friends who like or take hl series seriously, so coop would be a disaster. Who doesn't can do this ati or nvidia offer(yes it still works, I checked today) and get it.
Single player games are awesome, this is a fact. Don't give up on them Valve.
well i completely fucked up my understanding of what the article says, and henceforth am snipping this post
Wow valve, might as well change your name to "Id Software". Throw aside your single player game everyone loves and make multiplayer-only games. Though, I'm pretty sure Quake didn't have a cash store to let you buy hats for fucks sake (and what the fuck, buying animations for your portal 2 co-op drones?!)
I think this thread warrants the return of Bad Reading. It doesn't mean that Valve will stop doing Singleplayer campaigns, it will just mean that Singleplayer games will have a multiplayer component in that game.
I still want the guy who suggested removing the Bad Reading rating to drown in a sea of boxes.
Bundle it with a third HL: Deathmatch
I would be ok with that. HL2:DM was pretty fun. I wish it kept getting updated like TF2.
oh my fucking god READ THEY ARE SIMPLY ADDING A MULTIPLAYER MODE TO THEIR SINGLE PLAYER GAMES ARE YOU ALL RETARDED OR WHAT?
Apparently you are - even if all this means is their singleplayer games are going to REQUIRE you to join someone, that'll still be annoying as fuck. I'd love to have been able to play hl2 co-op with someone, but if it required me to always have someone playing with me it would have been annoying as hell. EDIT: and even if this isn't true, and they let you play it without others, the other part of my post still stands regardless. Hat stores? Buying animations for your robot drones? the fuck valve.
Don't have internet? FUCKING SCUMBAG YOU DON'T DESERVE TO PLAY GAMES
Apparently you are - even if all this means is their singleplayer games are going to REQUIRE you to join someone, that'll still be annoying as fuck. valve are good at whatever they do so this doesn't make a difference.
Ep3 coop
Episode 3 will be a multiplayer only team deathmatch with Team Gordon vs Team Combine. The story will be told inbetween rounds and map loadings.
Sounds like UT3.
Great, this means they havent even started on Ep3.
fp valve defense squadron mobilize
I much prefer singleplayer on Portal 2 to multiplayer...
I wouldn't mind this as long as it's not Gordon and Alyx co-op. I would much prefer 2 citizens doing co-op, a new deathmatch game or CS:2 than Gordon and Alyx.
EDIT: and even if this isn't true, and they let you play it without others, the other part of my post still stands regardless. Hat stores? Buying animations for your robot drones? the fuck valve.
i agree with you here. atleast its aesthetics, which is okay. if it was map pack or game changing elements it would be worse.
no because isolated means alone (in this context) alone as in the only mode multiplayer mode would be deathmatch or coop regular single player would be just good old single player adding the deathmatch would be un-isolating (grammar) the single player
I don't know how you come to this logic when the quote is about portal 2. Portal 2 does not have an isolated single player, by your definition.
Single player games are awesome, this is a fact. Don't give up on them Valve.
We're done here.
:smith: [editline]25th April 2011[/editline] Well, come to thing of it, HL2+its episodes are valves only games without multiplayer...
I don't know how you come to this logic when the quote is about portal 2. Portal 2 does not have an isolated single player, by your definition.
well fuck
no because isolated means alone (in this context) alone as in the only mode multiplayer mode would be deathmatch or coop regular single player would be just good old single player adding the deathmatch would be un-isolating (grammar) the single player
"Isolated single player mode" means that it's just a singleplayer mode, it doesn't mean it's the only mode. Also what the fuck are you on about, singleplayer is not the only mode in Portal 2.
I'm more hoping they don't put in separate story lines like Portal 2, or at least if they do they won't drop splitscreen support for PC
There is split screen support for the PC in Portal 2 though.
i agree with you here. atleast its aesthetics, which is okay. if it was map pack or game changing elements it would be worse.
Well alright - let's say I messed up, and all valve means is they'll be adding the ABILITY to play co-op, and lets see what this would do to half life. A game having co-op places certain restraints on the story, namely that 2 characters have to be together AT ALL TIMES, unless they want one player to have to stop playing for half an hour. Imagine if they had to cut out the entire part of episode 2 where alyx nearly dies, taking out one of the main motivations out of the game so you could both be playing at the same time. Go back and look at the plots for the half life game, and imagine having to take out every single part (or at least dumb down) any event that separated you from alyx. Occasionally putting you alone in half life often had the effect of making things more tense, or even making it a little bit freaky in places such as ravenholm. If you're always with someone else, it might dumb it down completely.
