I guess you didn't even play Portal 2 considering it had "Great storylinse, fun" and it'll probably be modded. Or are you just jumping on the "fuck valve" bandwagon that's started because people feel like they HAVE to buy an entirely optional hat?
I was being sarcastic. How was that not obvious? Did I need to say "AND THE GAME CAME IN A HAT TOO" to make it more obvious?
The OP is dumb. Nobody from Valve said this. Most likely is a very updated HL2DM is Valve does do it. Everyone stop talking
Here's what you do, kids. Whine with your wallets. Don't buy things you don't want/like, and they'll get the message. Don't buy hats, don't play the games you don't like.
I was being sarcastic. How was that not obvious? Did I need to say "AND THE GAME CAME IN A HAT TOO" to make it more obvious?
honestly, there's people who would say what you said seriously, so my bad.
ISOLATED SINGLE-PLAYER EXPERIENCE That means no one person and a lot of robots sort of deal. Singleplayer will have more than one human in the game.

Everyone stop talking
"It's an assertion he told me he heard directly from Valve founder Gabe Newell and the company's project manager Erik Johnson." Whatever this mean is anyone's guess. Naturally, people guess negatively.

You can play alone and you'll be playing the exact same thing you'd play in multiplayer with bots, or you can play co-op with 7 friends or less, or you can jump online and play online. it's a multitude of options, not one taking precedent over the other but it's much easier to think everyone here knows how to run a business better than Valve, the most successful video game company around.

Simple as that. Some simple little words that we don't fully understand. The statement could mean a new Valve MMO, a co-op thing, or a single-player game with other humans.
Valve has expressed how they didn't like single player games with co-op tacked on during multiple interviews regarding Portal 2. That just makes me wonder what they're planning after this.
Valve has expressed how they didn't like single player games with co-op tacked on during multiple interviews regarding Portal 2. That just makes me wonder what they're planning after this.
Half-Life MMO called it

[editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
As customers we don't care about their business as much as we care about quality games.
Oh that's good then cause you must still love Valve from pumping out mostly good games over the last 6 years
(Almost) Every game ever is / would be better with coop. Optional coop.
Singleplayer games have no replayability.
I really don't know how many times I've replayed the Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank games. Not to mention the GTA's.
I really don't see, in any way whatsoever, how any of the main Half-Life games (except for those expansions where you don't play as Freeman) will work as a co-op game, optional or not co-op characters cannot have dialogue - how would they convey any sort of serious-ness if they keep jumping around everywhere while talking
What? Have you played Left 4 Dead? The characters have a ton of in-game dialogue that plays automatically at certain trigger events, and it works great. Ellis's quirky comments is perhaps the most fun around friends. I don't see any problem with a player-controllable, talking, Alyx.
I don't think there's any fucking way Valve could make any of the Half Life series co-op. In both games, you mostly rely on yourself the entire way through.
I enjoy playing alone though.
Isn't it about time that some mod group just make a mod which is called Episode 3 ?! then we can have it how we want!
Hat-Life: Episode $3.99
I don't get why people are overreacting by saying "I will never play a valve game again!!!!" They are just most likely not going to release a game that doesn't have Co-op or some form of multiplayer. I really don't see it affecting the singleplayer, Since portal 2 did it and was a great sucess singleplayer and multiplayer wise.
I never play multiplayer games though.
Valve. I've been waiting for HL2 Ep3 for three and a half years now. I want the Half-Life 2 experience I've come to know and love. Don't. Fucking. Mess. Up.
I hate DLC, in fact I despise DLC. I don't want to spend my money on hats, or additional (cool & creative) weapons for a game. No. But on the other hand, it's good business for Valve. And the thing I like about Valve is the fact, that in TF2 at least, they offer ALL THAT DLC FOR FREE! That's what makes them stand out, and I respect them for that, it's fucking smart, brilliant even. And if the future Half-life3, or Team Fortress 3, had cool & creative DLC content for the classes, in terms of hats and weaponry, while being obtainable for absolutely free by playing the game, Valve would simply dominate the DLC business by being generous and profitable at the same time! Given that they put effort into the Class(DLC)-Updates for their games. Except for the Unusual Hat-gimmick (buying keys to open crates found by playing the game), which is fine to milk some more money. They need money after all.
If they slap a MP component to their single player franchise (such as coop mode for EP3), not only that no one would mind the change, but they would also like the feature as a "bonus" to the game
Having a single player version and a co-op version for EP3 sounds fine. Of the campaign I mean. Wow I just noticed that there are 5 pages.
They're just saying this so they can delay Episode 3 for a couple years more.
It seems more likely that they want to make the single player campaigns of their future games co-op compatible, rather than killing off single player completely. It seems like a great idea to me; I'd love to be able to play through the main story line with a friend, rather than play some off shoot co-op campaign that has almost nothing to do with the actual plot
It sounds like they're traveling down the same road as Insomniac with Resistance 3. [editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
As customers we don't care about their business as much as we care about quality games.
We're very shit customers then :v: We're like the person who bout a toaster expecting to cook it the EXACT way we wanted it and then bring it back because its just slightly more toasted than we like.
Well so long as it'll still be possible to play their games singleplayer, I'm OK with that. Now... if we have to play, say, Episode 3 in co-op with no singleplayer option... then I might be a little irked.
A little irked? If they did something like that, they'd have to pull it off flawlessly for me to even buy it.
We're very shit customers then :v: We're like the person who bout a toaster expecting to cook it the EXACT way we wanted it and then bring it back because its just slightly more toasted than we like.
The cool thing about Valve (something they'd tell you up front) is that they cared more about the quality of their games than the business itself. Money was only important so they could continue doing what they love to do. Are you insinuating that they're going 100% corporate on us? We'd be pretty unloyal fans if we didn't get upset over shit like that.
if episode 3 is like portal 2 where you're just given the option to buy an inconsequential little hat for your character then I'm fine with this [editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
Singleplayer games have no replayability.
badly made singleplayer games have no replayability
