Half-Life MMO called it
I don't know if this is a good thing or not. I think they said they wanted to make an MMO someday. [editline]25th April 2011[/editline]
if episode 3 is like portal 2 where you're just given the option to buy an inconsequential little hat for your character then I'm fine with this [editline]25th April 2011[/editline] badly made singleplayer games have no replayability
IF EP3 will have hats, i hope they're hats like the rebel's beanie or HEV helmets.

Half-Life 3 with multiple protagonists popping in and out would feel weird. Kind of like how Fable 2 co-op felt off when there was some big world changing event going on and there was a random guy with a stove hat on in the background shitting himself.
Their company started with single player games and now they're giving them up? They are making some REAL dumb decisions lately.
So is the downfall of Half Life, it was great while it lasted.
So is the downfall of Half Life, it was great while it lasted.
Lets wait and see about that shall we.
Hl2: EP3 Co-op. There is no story, you make the story.
I don't think there's any fucking way Valve could make any of the Half Life series co-op. In both games, you mostly rely on yourself the entire way through.
That gave me an idea. What if co-op simply means different campaigns? I'm sure Alyx has gotten into some hairy situations without Gordon by her side. There could be cases where you both have to split up, and then reunite at a later time for the big climax of the level. This has probably been said, hasn't it?
One player takes the role of Alyx, who is talking a lot while Gordon just sits in silence thinking "tits". I always though of coop as a bit of fun, where I'd sit alone and play games like HL2 and Halo campaign/story without my friends chatting away as I'd want the full experience.
That's a load of horse shit. Every fucking developer nowadays is focusing on crap multiplayer instead of important things like story and atmosphere, which valve does just fine. Now they're shitting it out for more crap coop and death matches.
Singleplayer games have no replayability.
lol i put more hours into most singleplayer games than i do most multiplayer games
Valve isn't giving me much reason to like them lately. I hope this is just some random bullshit they're doing to throw people off of some awesome project, please be that...
This does sound like shit, but it is also valve, so I'm just gonna hope that it's better than it sounds.
This does sound like shit, but it is also valve, so I'm just gonna hope that it's better than it sounds.
And, in the end, they have still made some of my favorite games, like Half-life 2.
Oh man, imagine if Valve somehow made it possible to play campaign Versus mode, just like Left 4 Dead. One team plays as the current antagonists, each with their respective perks and handicaps, and the other plays as Gordon and some supporting characters. Periodically, the protagonist team has to split up and support eachother. I think Valve could pull it off quite well.

It would be damn fun if npcs were actually pcs. No more stupid ai, just stupid i.
I pretty much only like singleplayer and local co-op games better give me some fucking local co-op
I pretty much only like singleplayer and local co-op games better give me some fucking local co-op
There's been local co-op since Left 4 Dead. Split screen is part of Source.
I'm fine with games coming with multiplayer, but they should still have single-player campaigns alongside it.
It appears I'm in the minority here, but what the fuck are all of you talking about? I love singleplayer. The Portal 2 campaign was beautiful and I would disheartened if Ep3 didn't have an sp campaign. But to forecast this as the end of Valve is ridiculous. Criticize TF2 for its gimmicks, but I have managed to play that game's multiplayer for hundreds of hours on a single map. I've enjoyed endless hours on CS:S rotations and mods. SP is great to enjoy a true masterpiece, but ultimately I'd rather have a masterfully crafted multiplayer with endless replay value (e.g. BF1942).
multiplayer hammer editor
I would actually like something like that :v:
Sent them all emails saying "Nooooooooo! We want Single-Player!"
I'm probably done with Valve then. I hate multi-player in general.
I only hate it in games like halo where it was nigh impossible to finish the game on legendary without paying for gold live and playing with a friend
Ohh and just as a side rant: Shut the fuck up about "Hat Fortress 2." Just shut the fuck up. You have exactly zero valid arguments. They are not required by any means, they have no impact on gameplay, and they do not change the aesthetics of the game at all. Hell, to be quite honest theyare beneficial. They give players more reason to play, create a diverse appearance for the characters, and they allow the player the ability to personalize the characters to their own particular tastes. I swear that few things make me more irritated than the people who bitch about hats in Team Fortress 2. But joyous days that is no longer the case. Now they bitch about Team Fortress 2 and Portal 2.
They butchered TF2 by adding arbitrary fluff to the game and not focusing on gameplay balance and the first-person shooter aspect. Sure, you can still have fun, but they absolutely raped the art-style and there's a plethora of TRADING SHAKO 4 5 REFINED (I'm not up on the latest hat lingo, I quit a while ago) where there used to be more focus on fun.

I wonder if EP3 will just be an extension of half life2 dm, saying like a really small campaign and then an online play section.
Even though they've also stated that they were making, or trying to make, Episode 3 scarier.
Well if what they're saying here is true that's impossible. I've never seen a multiplayer-only game with good atmosphere.
