If you want your balloons to be like bricks, sure.
isnt helium the 3rd most abundant element in the universe?
isnt helium the 3rd most abundant element in the universe?
Second. But it's all flying around in stars and shit.
There's some on the moon too, allegedly.
But then, who would want to buy a 100 dollar balloon..?
Plus, scientists will probably be the ones that have the last of the helium left on Earth.
What the fuck? This article is complete bullshit. Even by just reading the Wikipedia article about Helium, you would know that helium is present in reliable amounts in natural gas.
Nobody would ever fill rubber balloons with He3, and I must say that He3 might be somewhat rarer than normal helium, but has barely any use except for scientific experiments.
The article is badly mistaking uses and origins of He and He3. Seriously, OP, please delete it, or at least state that it isn't to be trusted, to not to spread the idiocy to Facepunch.

it's not.
helium is a finite resource.
it's not.

But no way only obtainable by nuclear fission of other elements.
But no way only obtainable by nuclear fission of other elements.
the article mentions that, the helium in natural gas is that it mentions of occurring through alpha-decay in rocks.

From that wikipedia article:
"Nearly all helium on Earth is a result of radioactive decay"
Sulfur hexaflouride is still cooler.

no it's not, it's boring.
helium lets us cool things down, it allows superconduction, it means we can run NMR and MRI machines.
helium is way better.
From that wikipedia article:

But that doesn't mean that it's the only way of obtaining it. There are still massive amounts of it in underground wells, and this article makes it sound like that you need a friggin nuclear reactor to make some.

the stuff in underground wells is coming because of radioactive decay.
once that runs out we have to extract it from the air. which means essentially we pressurise the air to high pressures turning all the gases into liquids then fractionally distill them which is very labour intensive.
Second. But it's all flying around in stars and shit.

The moon has a large amount of helium-3 which is better used for nuclear reactors.
Damnit, I thought this thread would be about a futuristic balloon that you can travel with.
This means that some day we can brag to the future generations about how we would just release, pop, or just inhale these floating goldmines for fun. Then they will sigh, shake their heads, and get back to building their pocket fusion reactors with some other gas.
What did you think, we just magically pulled it out of the air? There's no natural source on Earth except radioactive decay.
Yeah motherfuckers. Make more tritium. I want a damn tritium map light (AKA beta light). The fucking import restrictions on tritium are ridiculous in the United States.
...oh right and it sucks we are running out of helium.
Brb investing in party balloons.
Invest income into balloon stocks.
helium should be all saved for zepplins, now THAT would be fucking awesome
If there's a helium shortage why not just stop using it in fucking balloons? They serve no purpose. Silly society and its trinkets.
It's like making a decorative garden fountain that sprays gasoline

Pfft that would be silly.
Unless you lit it on fire.
Then it would be AWESOME.
God forbid we don't have the balloons!
Well, there's allegedly helium on the Moon, so that's a source to consider tappin'. Maybe we'll have to go there and establish a mining base someday.
I wonder what will be the worth of my Yu Gi Ho! cards in the future.

This pretty much ends all arguments in the thread.
Am I the only one that kind of picked up on a fundamental flaw here?
Balloons aren't MADE of helium they CONTAIN helium.

I love how this is your last post in this thread

:saddowns:
Balloons are just oversized condoms without helium.
