What if you just like them and don't particularly care if it makes people add a neckbeard to your appearance?
Personally, I buy watches because I think they're cool, not to show off.
I could totally see myself wearing one of these, and I don't wear a fedora http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/watches/kisai/seven/
Personally, I think it looks simple and cool. You don't, fine but if you write people off based on the watch they wear you're quite the idiot.
One of my friends carries a pocket watch around with her. It's pointless since it takes exactly the same effort as taking her phone out of her pocket but hey, she likes it, who am I to tell her she should start wearing a fedora and trench coat combo?
Because her watch doesn't employ some novelty and ineffectual way to tell time.
To use the watch you linked you need to relearn how to tell time for that specific thing, hell you'd probably have to print out and carry this little guide around in your wallet for awhile to adjust. It's just not practical and it's just a flashy thing to show off. Don't buy watches JUST BECAUSE they're cool, the things are still useful tools and shouldn't require a whole new set of instructions to tell time. Practicality should still factor in.

Watches now are used more for jewellery than ever, for many people it could hardly matter if the time piece is even functioning.
Exactly, it isn't a watch.
so if it isn't a watch because it's a smartwatch which is a type of watch, the watch isn't a watch?
wut.

And it's a crying shame because regular watches are still brilliant things that don't need gimmicky leds and edgy new ways to tell time or look good.

Also holy FUCK i just noticed the watch mentioned above is 140 bucks, holy Christ that's expensive. You can buy similar watches for half the price that tell time in a similar manner.
[editline]6th January 2014[/editline]
Actually all those watches on that site are obscenely over priced for what they do, you could buy so much more practical and stylish watches for those prices with build qualities that are significantly better.

...Why would you need to carry that guide if everything is where it would be if it were an analogue watch?
...Why would you need to carry that guide if everything is where it would be if it were an analogue watch?
because i still can't for the life of me figure out what the top bands of light do.
because i still can't for the life of me figure out what the top bands of light do.
Specific minutes.
"The lights above & below the circles indicate 1-4 minutes. Here they are half way across so that's 2 minutes. We already know it's 9 o'clock, but to be exact, it's 9:02."
My mum has an analogue watch that has no little dots whatsoever, not even on 3, 6, 9 and 12, which makes it, in my opinion, much harder to read than this particular one.
Timezone
why do you need your watch to reflect timezone? You just adjust your watch, no need to add it as a feature, it's redundancy being built right into the watch.
because i still can't for the life of me figure out what the top bands of light do.
The top lights add a minute to the already displayed time. If its on the "+2" light, and the watch face is 3 and 55 its 3:57.
it's not exactly rocket science.
Specific minutes.
so then you need to do math by look at the main face then adding the top bar to the bottom bar then adding it to the hour and 5 minute increments or am i wrong? i feel like and hope i'm wrong.

Yes but it's just complicating a simple task, you're literally making a simple task like telling the time more involved for no logical reason.

Nah it doesn't feel any different from reading analogue. But the watch is still shit for just the terrible quality of LEDs. Tokyo Flash watches have really cheap shit put into them which is utter bullshit since they charge you way too much because it's "unique".

I've been wearing analogue watches for years, I don't think I'd have a hard time at all.
Although, 104 euros is way too much for me and I'd prefer it if the line between light and not-light was defined and not a blur.

So you're literally just paying top dollar for something you could make for yourself for less than 50 bucks as a weekend project? I still disagree with the idea that they're as easy to read as analogue watches, but it's honestly just stupid that people buy these things given the actual quality of them.

There's always people in threads about products throwing shit at people who buy things they want to buy

I'm seriously considering upgrading to the pebble steel. Looks so much better than the 1st gen Pebble.

god forbid a discussion happens on a forum right?
god forbid a discussion happens on a forum right?
I'm not sure if "anyone who likes this is probably a neckbeard" can be called a "discussion"
I'm not sure if "anyone who likes this is probably a neckbeard" can be called a "discussion"
I believe it falls more under "being an asshole"

I feel like it too, though $249 might be too much for me.

Welcome to the internet, where people are blunt and discussions aren't candy coated.
and tbh it was the novelty of it that got me to buy one anyway.

Ashens answers all our questions again when he reviews some watches from TokyoFlash.
Never gonna buy one after watching that.
I have the normal pebble watch and I love it. It's actually really handy.
[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/78/Pebble_watch_cycling_4.png[/t]
It has a auto-adjusting brightness sensor i think.
It's just reflective, so it doesn't need a light in a well lit environment.
There's an ambient light sensor that keeps the front-light from turning on in the sun though, most likely to save battery.
people give a shit about smart watches? I thought that was another fad that they were trying to shove down everyone's throats....
Smart watches seem rather dumb but I can see a pebble being useful as a quick way to control runkeeper/music/etc on your phone when it's a bad time to pull your phone out, like during a jog or when it's raining.
Is it just me or does "ten four teen" seem more difficult to mentally process than "10:14" or a traditional clock face?
It does
This is why I fucking hate delivering to people who's only address is a fancy cursive letterform version of their house address. Newsflash: almost always it means I miss your house, so if you want to get your pizza in a more timely fashion get rid of those god awful addresses that are impossible to quickly read from the street.
Every time I try to think of uses for a smart watch, I just keep coming up with reasons for why a smart phone would be better suited for the job.

It doesn't replace your phone silly, it's a extension of your phone.
I use my pebble for time, messages and for music in my car (because if I got my phone out to change my music I have to take my eyes off the road)
God damn you people get upset about smartwatches holy shit let people wear them if they want to lmao
[editline]dumbasses[/editline]
i have one and it's great.
