Redditors " "egged" another redditor into killing himself", family to sue them, reddit to be subpoen

Good, let them have it.
Saying all of Reddit is like r/atheism, r/funny etc. is like saying all of Facepunch is like OIFY or Fast Threads. It's generalizing at it's worst. And I think some of you here saying all of Reddit is filled with idiots and pedophiles, don't really know what you are talking about and are just jumping the bandwagon.
until recently they had no rules regarding the posting of sexually suggestive images of children, that's not some little subreddit thing. that's something that the admins refused to change their minds on for years until it got some attention from the media, it's disgusting.
it's also one of the most racist & misogynistic sites on the internet yet they act like they're a bastion of liberalism when they're incredibly awful.
r/funny/pics/all/atheism/whatever are all on the FRONT PAGE of reddit, like it or not they represent the site by being there and each of those subreddits are terrible, with the exception of askscience because they don't tolerate stupid fucking opinions or off topic shit about how the girl in that picture has really nice boobies and i'd love to rape her but sadly all women are shallow whores.

They have an entire board about beating women.
If you value your brain, I suggest you don't go in there.

Abusing it to the full extent possible.

I don't view reddit as a single forum, but rather a bunch of small interconnected imageboards with userbases that occasionally overlap. Most of the huge ones, like all huge things, are full of idiots. But at the same time, there are a few boards that are worth visiting regularly I think. I know it's got one of the largest and best Dark Souls communities I've managed to find on the internet, and they organize PVP events from time to time. That's worth the occasional visit in my opinion.
The entire reason the horrifically offensive boards exist is because the administrators insist on reddit being a "Free Speech Zone" or whatever. They want people to be able to moderate whatever subreddit they create how they see fit. Does this make it right that /r/beatingwomen exists? No, and I really wish that the owners would take a more active approach to removing terrible subreddits. But at the same time I have trouble seeing how the entirety of reddit is misogynistic just because /r/beatingwomen or /r/mensrights act out occasionally, even though I assume that a relatively small portion of the total userbase actually goes there.

Just because you CAN say something doesn't mean you SHOULD...
There are just certain things you shouldn't talk about because it's just horrible.
Wifebeating is one of those few things.
Calling reddit, a user submitted content site bad isn't much different from calling the entire internet bad. Just because a fair portion of it is absolute shit with pedophiles and memes, doesn't mean that the entire thing is worthless.
To say that because a large portion of something is bad that the whole thing must be is an example of the fallacy of composition
Dumb r/atheism shit:
Also, a "meme" is not just more fucking Advice Dog knock-offs.

Child porn is bad okay
Child porn is bad okay
I somehow read "Child porn is okay"...
well lemme tell you a lil somethin about free speech.......
Free speech is overrated. Seriously, there is a line, and you can cross it.
Why do you guys have to hate any forum that isn't facepunch? The way i see it is this.
Facepunch has some cool sections and members but is also has its fair share of idiots and problems. Kinda police state-ish in a biased way and bans are harsh.
Reddit has some cool sections and members but is also has its fair share of idiots and problems. Barely moderated enough and has obnoxious meme spewers and crazy liberals.
4chan has some cool sections and members but is also has its fair share of idiots and problems. Its bad sections and users are extra bad.
Really, despite differences in the sites, we still are more alike then we are not.
No, I hate here too.
FP is also a place for lots of people, yet we don't have CP boards.
Where'r also moderated and with a median age at around 15.
And reddit is basically an adult even less moderated version of 4chan
meanwhile while reddit is being discussed another thread pops up in this section where a guy from 4chan is being blamed for a double murder and is in a standoff with police. Can't let those redditors get all the attention right?

here's some super easy to find posts linked from /r/shitredditsays
"Niggers. No one else wants to say it? I will. This is the epitome of the word, and whats its evolved into. The mob mentality. The astounding ability to devolve into animals, because of the lack of consequences." [+466]
"If she wanted him to stop, saying 'no, really, get off me' would be a logical follow up" ... "She sounds like the girl that makes it hard for real rape victims to be believed." [+849]
"Protip: She's 15." "So she's of normal, evolutionary breeding age where it's appropriate for me to naturally salivate over the sight of her boobs, got it." +30. Also, "faps anyway"+28
"Friendzoning is bull...girls are not machines that you put kindness coins in until sex falls out" "they just prefer real money" [+134]
"Wanna know what's crazy? Is that people try to defend black culture." [+10]
"Well you have an attractive body so clearly you must have been a bitch. And big one because a man can generally tolerate quite a lot of bitchiness for a good body." [+283]

There are two objective truths to ethics. Mostly because they can be applied to everything. "Everything is wrong somehow" and "everything that isn't wrong, isn't right by nature"
Answer is just "fuck it."
'free speech zone' protection guarantees fuckwits
complaining about Reddit is as bad as complaining about youtube comments
get the fuck over yourself facepunch, having been around 6 years, most of you are no better than the rest of the slime on the internet
FP is also a place for lots of people, yet we don't have CP boards.
Check the cat girls and hot illustrated girls.
A big deference between these sites and Facepunch is that Facepunch is small enough that people start recognizing specific users much easier, which can be a good or bad thing.
Wow a lot of you guys misunderstand Reddit. First of all, it is one of the largest forums on the internet, and subreddits are not started by moderators, they can be started by anyone. Of course there will be some horrible subreddits, but there is a great amount of original and generally interesting information on reddit. One or two users don't define the whole site.

Looks like a hoax, the victim doesn't even have a sister.
"Okay. Morality in a nutshell. Don't hurt people if you can avoid it. Don't steal stuff unless you're starving or it's really, really important. Work hard. Pay your bills. Try to help others. Always double check your math if there are explosives involved. If you screwed up, you need to see it gets fixed. And don't eat anything that talks. If it doesn't fall under one of those categories, just do the best you can."
Best moral system I can think of.

Sadly, there are people in this world who are quick to generalize without forethought.
Facepunch loves judging things without actually taking the time to understand them, Reddit is no exception
its his fault for being on reddit
this is a joke.
my post.

Oh and why they allow subreddits on dead children/women, beating women and /r/mensrights (which is a hate group that basically condones rape) to exist while still wanting to be respected? Oh and the countless bigoted comments that get upvoted to the top in any thread regarding race or women or any minority.
Also which subreddits on the front page (which represents the site to the average user) produce much original content?

My sister frequents Reddit.
She says avoid "picsofdeadkids" "beatingwomen" and "spacedicks" and for the most part you should be fine.

I have no clue as to the first question. I acknowledge that some of the admins are wrong, I'm simply stating that one shouldn't be so quick to judge a site of thousands of subforums based only one of those subforums. I don't even visit Reddit often, so don't mistake me for blindly defending them, I'm just being objective.
As for the second question, freedom of speech. Reddit is far from being the only forum with racism and sexism. Can you honestly say that Facepunch is free of it? I understand your point though, and I agree with you that these things, among the others mentioned should be stopped.
And as for the third question, I'd say /r/askreddit, /r/IAMA, and /r/pics generate some good content.
