"free speech" stops at inciting acts of violence, which is what the various "beating women/transgender/etc" subreddits do
"free speech" stops at inciting acts of violence, which is what the various "beating women/transgender/etc" subreddits do
what's your point?
I have no clue as to the first question. I acknowledge that some of the admins are wrong, I'm simply stating that one shouldn't be so quick to judge a site of thousands of subforums based only one of those subforums. I don't even visit Reddit often, so don't mistake me for blindly defending them, I'm just being objective.
As for the second question, freedom of speech. Reddit is far from being the only forum with racism and sexism. Can you honestly say that Facepunch is free of it? I understand your point though, and I agree with you that these things, among the others mentioned should be stopped.
And as for the third question, I'd say /r/askreddit, /r/IAMA, and /r/pics generate some good content.
Reddit is a privately owned website, they have the option of limiting certain viewpoints that are morally wrong without infringing on anyone's free speech. The free speech argument does not work in this case, people make a judgement on the website as a whole when the admins allow those subreddits and posts to be there, /r/mensrights even has admitted rapists on there yet they are not banned.
One of the most popular users on the website (violentacrez) is an admitted pedophile who had sex with his stepdaughter and ran the majority of the creepy child porn subreddits yet he is in regular contact with many of the admins.
And no, facepunch is not free of it but it's a damn sight better than reddit. I do wish it was a bit more like SA with super harsh bans if you're a particularly shitty person though.
There are some good subreddits but it's really telling when the majority of the popular ones are full to the brim with crap. The good ones are actually the largely moderated ones such as /r/askscience.

Btw, this whole thing was some awful troll attempt http://www.reddit.com/r/ShitRedditSays/comments/s73yu/meta_this_world_has_some_twisted_fucks_in_it/ the guy in the op has nothing to do with reddit, someone just used his death to create drama. Awful.

like evolution is a pretty recent thing in history... You really think we made no medical advances before when people believed different creation stories..?
I agree, some bits of 4chan are beyond terrible (/b/), but /tg/ for example is probably the best place to discuss traditional games on the internet, and there are other good boards.
It wasn't caused by Religion directly, no. It was just caused by the organized catholic church-system. Today, baptists want to go back to that time, because being depressed and constantly dying was oh so wonderful in the eyes of the lord, it seems.

Alright, I agree with you man. Pretty much a lot of it can be bad, but there are some good parts.
And why am I not surprised that this whole thing was a troll attempt.

Here's someone debunking that in a thread with a similarly stupid image.
Basically roman empire collapsed = chaos.

I'm to trust Reddit rapists on this?

I don't. There's a difference between strict moderators and oppressive moderators.
I like Facepunch as it is, we get rid of complete retards, but we generally have a pretty chilled out environment. The moderators feel like protectors rather than like prosecutors.

Wow, no it wasn't.
Edit: How about the medicine wasn't just developed yet.
Went to /r/athiesm to see why everybody was calling it shit.

I genuinely like Xzibit, he's a good rapper, actor and overall good guy, but now whenever I happen to mention him "lol yo dawg i put a rap in yo rap so you could rap while you arrow to the knee le mad bro y u no trollface.jpg.gif.png.zip.htm"
I hope Reddit has to shut down. I really do.
I hope Reddit has to shut down. I really do.
If Reddit gets shut down, then what stops them from shutting down facepunch?
And oh god what would happen if they would all go to facepunch instead!?
And oh god what would happen if they would all go to facepunch instead!?
Like we usually deal with new people here, ban them until they understand how to behave properly.
What the total fuck

do i have to answer this
It's funny because the subreddit that's getting blamed for "egging on" the guy is one that points out all the horrible shit that gets posted on reddit. And it turns out they're not really posters from that subreddit either.
Seems like it was just one big hoax by butthurt /r/mensrights twats.
facepunch is like a bunch of prepubescent angsty teenagers pretending they've had sex and are good at it.
Actually, Fpers are usually pretty honest about themselves. A bit underestimating themselves, even.
But this poster is, for the most part, correct.
No it isn't. It is entirely incorrect.
1. The "Dark Ages" were, more the most part, a misnomer. There were a shit-ton of scientific advances in Mediaeval Europe. I've listed them before in an angrier rant here, so I'll just link to the Wikipedia page. The concept was invented in the Renaissance to make their love affair for all things classical seem more "enlightened" and such. What modern historians call the Dark Ages - a term rarely used, due to its negative connotations - is the lack of written history in the period. This was, in fact, worse in pagan areas, as the Catholic Church had many monks and bishops write chronicles of history and current events in the area they worked in. The Venerable Bede - called the Father of English History and responsible for popularising the AD/BC system we use today - was a monk.
2. Teaching Creationism today has nothing to do with past medical advancements. At all. In any way. This picture is fucking dumb.
What is so terrible about reddit, anyway?

SA's basically a whole forum of SigmaLambdas so extended reading can be exhausting but it's vital that you read this:

Which still doesn't change the fact, that some Religious Fanatics take all science as bad.
But there are idiots in every community.
Why would someone post his suicide notes on some random stupid website ? You are on the internet, nobody gives a fuck.
