MechWarrior Living Legends releases final update – forcibly shut down by MechWarrior rights holders

MWO = uninstalled.
MWLL = downloading.
I don't care about legal issues or sense, FUCK YOU PIRANHA. I have barely even wanted to play MWO since I installed it anyway.
MWLL really is a great game. Really. - thank you all for a fantastic achievement, which like the original game, set a standard which will be unsurpassed for the foreseeable future. The sophisticated game-play, implementation, and glorious ambitions of this masterpiece will set a benchmark for a very, very long time.
MWLL is also a massive achievement for non-corporate gaming, and i am personally saddened that - for whatever reasons - development has been locked. The non-commercial nature of MWLL has been hugely important for developing the complex game-play that keeps a devoted fan base of often very experienced, mature players. very few commercial games come even close to the MWLL experience, of combined teamwork, tactical use of assets, and sheer tigger-happy-ery. In particular, the huge range of very different assets and the lack of a paper-scissor-stone core structure, means that players of very different skills and/or PING can still meaningfully compete. when combined with the highly customizable graphics, this means that the game can also be enjoyable on a wide range of hardware, with relatively low bandwidth use for such a fast and gorgeous MMO FPS game.
Doubtless a commercial version would have been quite different. The superficially similar commercial effort MWO clearly fails by a staggering margin to achieve even a portion of what MWLL has done in creating the true legacy of the original concept.....and in its own right an absolutely top class game!.......with what was still planned, ah... :(
Simply put; MWLL Beta 0.7 is very bloody good indeed. Very. - i will be playing it for the foreseeable future, and if it is ever surpassed, on present evidence i doubt very much it will be under a corporate model.
Lets hope a company such as microsoft might see when its beat and give up on this license nonsense......
On the other hand, there was a long spell in the desert between MW4 and MWLL - but look what that gestation brought!
thank you, all of you;
LONG LIVE LIVING LEGENDS !
I won't say I'll never buy another Mechwarrior game, but after MWO failed to live up to its promises, I'll never let myself get excited for one again... especially after this bullshit.

I'm hopeful that MWO turns out well. I don't see why MWO doesn't work/hire the mod team for MWLL given how amazing their usage was judging by the screenshots.
fffffuck youuuu
Why are you holding the rights if you're not releasing anything you assholes.

They are, MWLL is considered a competitor for MWO. Unfortunately, only one of them has a legal team backing it.
MWO is shit.
Just imagine, we could have gotten a real Mechwarrior game with singleplayer and online multiplayer deathmatches without any grind. Mechwarrior 5 was a thing at some point.
But then F2P happened.
aren't they both on the cryengine?
MWLL is on cryengine 2 and MWO is on an incomplete beta version of cryengine 3 essentially. Not the same cryengine 3 crysis 2 was on, kindove.

The engine MWLL uses seems better then MWO's in every way
You have to turn off a million filters and bloom effcts and other assorted crap to even make MWO LOOK LIKE A GAME instead of a goddamn alpha tech demo
Did I mention that they haven't patched gamebreaking bugs since oh let me see THE FIRST VERSION? What do they fix instead? Oh yeah that one minor bug, they didn't fix the constant crashing nonono they had to fix the CASH shop so you can buy 20 dollar hulu girls to put on your mech dashboard WHEN YOU STILL CRASH 5/10 TIMES!
If this is the new industry standard I might as well never bother with f2p games again. Good thing we still have Valve.
Well, just look at crysis 2's visuals vs crysis 1 for the real difference in the engines. I still think crysis 1 looks better.
Can they not just rename the mod to something else and change a few of the art assets?
Can they not just rename the mod to something else and change a few of the art assets?
Change a few of the art assets? Do you have any idea how long it would take to create new non-Mechwarrior IP models to replace all the mechs and vehicles? They're not exactly overflowing with modellers.

Crysis 2 and Cryengine 3 in general covers everything in bloom and lens flares
if CE2 and Crysis 1 had the kind of optimization that Crysis 2 had i'd be extremely pleased
So has anyone started an online petition yet?

Why?

CryEngine 3 is capable of far better graphics while running better than CryEngine 2 (MWLL uses what is essentially CryEngine 2.5). It's just that Crysis 2 uses lower quality textures and shaders to run on the ancient console hardware.
I guess its just that all the games made with cryengine 3 have this shitty washed out color pallet stolen from COD. its hard to actually tell its capable of better visuals.

Ha... TF2 as an ideal F2P game?
The loch n' load, the phlogistinator's particles not working with the weapon, the constant validation bugs, the dozens of weapons without critical hit glow indicators, the underpowered/overpowered or straight up useless/crutch weapons (short circuit, arguably the soda popper, wee booties, axtinguisher + degreaser, liberty launcher), broken map build zones, wrong team textures on some items (half zatoichi, skull bat), quickplay beta being beta for a half year now, voice lines not being used for some characters in MVM, payload and loads more unfixed shit.
I'd say that DOTA 2 shows valve at its best in terms of effort and tf2 at the worst currently but I don't know anything about dota 2 apart that it gets its bugs fixed.

Half the stuff you listed wasn't related to TF2 being an F2P game but TF2 having a bunch of bugs in it.

I'm saying that valve quality is feeling pretty subpar when it comes to updating games.
L4d2 hasn't had an update in forever either, cold stream took forever to make.
I'm also saying that there are bugs that they have kept around for years now.
I was pretty much only replying to this part.

solution: disband development troupe, continue developing as "dedicated fans"
also, is mwll free? if so, fuck which ever trash heap is responsible for this. i don't know anything about this game and i'm upset about it.
all the coding work's been done already and they've got a working game, so now they'd only have to reskin it
and lets be honest, as with most old IPs, a lot of MechWarrior canon/art design is pretty fucking dumb
It would be nice if devs would stop making F2P cash-grab games and go back to making full-featured and full-priced AAA titles which didn't ask to be inside your wallet every 15 minutes.
This wont happen. Best bet would be to support games who do it right and dont support those who do it wrong. F2P is becoming the only viable way to sustain game companies nowadays.

it's a free mod for crysis wars. Come play as a fuck you to the dicks responsible.
Crysis Wars being the multiplayer mode for Crysis Warhead, a standalone expansion that nets you a solid singleplayer campaign. I think it retails for $20 but it goes down to $5 on Amazon/Steam every few weeks.

MWLL is compatible with the Crysis Wars demo now. Most servers will allow demo players to join. No purchase is necessary unless you want to play on those (largely unpopular) servers which forbid demo players.

Nevermind then, everyone listen to this man :v:

MWLL was always compatible with the Crysis Wars demo (ever since MWLL was compatible with Crysis Wars in general). There is no difference at all between the Retail version of Crysis Wars and the Trial.
Also, it is very easy to make a server that does not require a CD-Key authentication. You don't even have to modify any game files to do it.
Greetings gentlemen. Time for some shameless promotion! But I believe this to be relevant to your interests.
Some members of the MWLL community have created a combined Crysis Wars Trial and MWLL installer to hopefully take some of the headache out of getting started.
