but what about all the companies in america that pump toxic waste into rivers or the companies that are destroying the environment?
i think it shows how much of a disease consumerism is when people are more concerned over videogames than the state of the planet they live on.
Well, as I said, it WAS conducted by Consumerist.
No it doesn't. If you still believe that "origin is spyware lol" bullshit then you should just throw your PC out the window.
I see newer pages saying that they changed their EULA...
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-11-01-ea-denies-origin-spying-on-battlefield-3-users
"We have updated the End User License Agreement of Origin, in the interests of our players to create more clarity," EA Germany announced in a statement yesterday. "Origin is not spyware. Neither do we use nor install spyware on the PCs of users.
"We do not have access to information such as pictures, documents or personal data, which have nothing to do with the execution of the Origin program on the system of the player, neither will they be collected by us.
"EA takes the privacy of its users very seriously. We have taken every precaution to protect the personal and anonymous user data collected."
Origin's license agreement matches "industry-standard privacy policies", EA stressed.

EA is pretty terrible, but so are Activision and Ubisoft.
The difference is Origin and ME3 left a bad taste in everyone's mouthes. The latter copanies also never release anything with high expectations.

I agree... considering that EA was running against Bank of America in this poll for worst 'company' finals. Seeing what Bank of America and other banks did to the economy and with foreclosures, they dwarf anything that EA could do. Not saying that EA's a good company, it's not, but between getting angry over a bad video game and losing a home, I'd have to say the 'company' responsible for the latter is worse.
and people still eat their shit like it's the best, seriously, complaining about a company being shit and making shit games and going on to buy all the shit they make isn't the right way to make a point.
EA doesn't make games, it produces them. Bioware made the Mass Effect Series. DICE made Battlefield.
These are good games, but we have to go through EA to get them.
I wish people would stop looping the developers in with EA. I can blame them for lots of stuff, but if you remove EA from that element, then the company is judged based on what they do. DICE, Criterion Games, Maxis, Bioware, and Visceral Games are all incredible game studios, of course there is bullshit pushed upon them by EA, but this is the fault of selling out to them, which a lot of times they've been lied too, not really the fact they're controlled by EA.
Same with Activision, they're terrible, but people assume the games they publish for have to be just as bad.

Exactly this.
This prove that EA is the dark side of gaming, but it's bigger brother is Activision is more worst.
Bank of America is infinitely worse than EA.
EA has a habit of making somewhat unnecessary download services and rushing game production.
Bank of America has a habit of crashing economies to make a quick buck and buying politicians.
Also Facebook haha, how many people voted for it despite using it's services every day.

Without EA we most likely wouldn't have these games at all.
EA statement from Kotaku
http://kotaku.com/5899092/worst-company-in-america-ea-says-big-tobacco-must-be-relieved-it-wasnt-nominated
We're sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren't nominated this year. We're going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.
Read the comments for hilarity. People still crying about the Mass Effect 3 ending without even reading the original article.
I guess fucking up an ending to a video game makes you a worse company than thieves and murderers.
EA is a travesty of a company that I wouldn't give the time of day to, but there are SO many worse corporations than EA.
I still think Walmart/Bank of America are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse than EA.
I still think Walmart/Bank of America are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse than EA.
EA wouldn't even be considered as a nominee on my list of worst companies in America.
Because they make fucking video games.
I think this contest was more about "who's got the most displeased customers and worst reputation" rather than "who's got the worst effect on the economy/environment".
I still think Walmart/Bank of America are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse than EA.
Why does everyone hate Walmart?
Why does everyone hate Walmart?
They destroy local small businesses and treat their employees like disposable garbage.
What the hell happened to Activision, what about them? Well, maybe they don't have much game as EA.
this is actually fairly depressing
there is so much worse out there, but ohno help these people made a game i don't like
then again what can you expect from a dumb facebook competition
I think this contest was more about "who's got the most displeased customers and worst reputation" rather than "who's got the worst effect on the economy/environment".
No it's literally the worst company in America. People who voted for EA though "I will vote for EA because, in a running between worst companies in America, EA is worse than Bank of America
Even if your (frankly dumb) theory was true I'd say Bank of America has a worse reputation because it literally destroyed peoples lives.
Anyone who voted for EA is either an extremely sheltered gamer, or someone who has no awareness about the world they live in, but more than likely it's both.
They destroy local small businesses and treat their employees like disposable garbage.
Destroying small businesses? That's just good business. If they can't sell their products cheaper, then that's too bad.
And the employees thing can't be said for every single Walmart building in the world.

It's capitalism, but people have the right to voice their dissatisfaction with it. The fact that plenty of small towns go out of their way to block Walmarts in their communities shows this.
Treatment of employees is an endemic issue with the company that has been proven several times.
Walmart would be somewhere on a list for worst companies in America, but I'd put banks and PMC's much higher on the list.

I would have voted for EA, since they're a global company their services are available to me.
I however am not at all affected by Bank of America or Wallmart, and watching them fuck up your country while I watch from a distance back here in Sweden really doesn't bother me at all.
EA apologists gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
I would have voted for EA, since they're a global company I have been a customer of them, and I do not like them.

It doesn't matter where you live, and all you are displaying is a massive block in perspective.
It doesn't matter where you live, and all you are displaying is a massive block in perspective.
I, and many other people, would vote what we feel is the company we dislike the most.
I don't give a flying fuck about what other people think of a certain company, I would vote for the one I dislike the most.
Also fyi Bank of America contributing to the housing market crisis in 2008 probably affected Sweden in atleast some small way because we have a global economy.
Affected it more than the ME3 ending being bad or whatever silly reason you have for being more mad at a video game company then a massive banking one.
I don't even play Mass Effect, I dislike them for splitting up developers like Westwood and Bullfrog, and for being extremely greedy and untrustworthy.
There are reasons to dislike EA. Origin is not one of them.
The way they handle developers is. The fact they still use archaic technologies like PunkBuster and SeureROM is. Their pushing of the online pass system is. Fuck, there are many, many better reason to dislike EA than Origin (which isn't that bad you babies).
That still doesn't make them the "worst" (according to a bunch of Facebook users lmao) company in the US. The worst companies would be the ones that have actually cause massive amounts of damage to their customers and products in general, or, I dunno, one of the causes of the current economic problems?
This entire "contest" was fucking dumb in the first place and shouldn't have existed.
I would actually consider the contest a success as this bracket has gone viral on many websites and I'm sure the Consumerists visitors have skyrocketed during the duration of the voting.
EA apologists gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
I'd probably see EA leading a contest for worst video game company, or even worst entertainment-related company, but worst company in America? Not even remotely close. When we are thinking about oil companies, banks, and PMC's EA doesn't even register as a contender for a nominee.
[editline]4th April 2012[/editline]
I don't even play Mass Effect
So then what has EA done worse than helping crash a global economy and rob thousands of people of money and property.
I would actually consider the contest a success as this bracket has gone viral on many websites and I'm sure the Consumerists visitors have skyrocketed during the duration of the voting.
That is basically all the contest was mind, a publicity thing for the Consumerist. Get something simple like this on Facebook and it can receive millions of hits for no effort on your part. People will just spread it and some of those hits might start using the site regularly.
