Apple said that Tim Cook is new CEO, adding to OP now.
Still it'll be weird not seeing him up on stage announcing the iPhone 5. Resigning so soon ahead of a new product release will definitely fuck with Apple stock.
Hmm, this is an 'eventful' week... but in a bad way. Wow.
Nothing, nothing, nothing, I RESIGN lol
and nothing of value was lost
Where were you on 8/24 when the news came
Finally. It's about time.
Oh God, what if they get another Steve Ballmer?
Don't worry Steve, all of Facepunch is rooting for you! We're behind you until your final step!
As if the guy that replaces him will be better.
Jobs is a skeleton right now with all that chemo shit.

Product announcements will be far more entertaining.
I kind of saw this coming with his health declining and all. He's not getting any younger. So this was not a surprise.
Anyways, Apple stocks are probably gonna plummet now.
Ding Dong the Copyright Witch is Gone!
I heard he got cancer of some sort.
Why do you think he left Apple? He had to get rid of it some day.
Gonna invest in apple stock now that its going to fall 10000 percent.
and nothing of value was lost
Even though apple is a bad company in many ways. Doesn't mean steve jobs is a clever guy.

Watch this drop when the market opens.
I'm 99% sure it's his health.
Even if it was, why would he then request the place of chairman, if I was to quit due to health problems, I would quit completely. Any stress isn't going to do any good.
Well it's that time of the year. Looks like the fruit is falling.
Oh God, what if they get another Steve Ballmer?
What?
Tim Cook has been the real CEO for some time, I'm guessing Steve Jobs felt his death whilst still CEO would be more likely to cause a panic then his resignation beforehand.
Destiny.
Well, They do say that great minds think alike!
well shit just this day we were talking about oh what if steve jobs resigns.
Apple stocks closed at 376.18 points ($376.18 per share). So far, it's only fallen about a point.
Am I the only one here who thinks that this won't change anything?

Ballmer has been CEO at Microsoft though Windows XP, Windows 7, Office 2003/07/10, Xbox/360, etc. He's been a successful CEO.
This is not good news for his health!
While I wish death for Apple (especially it's legal team), I like Steve Jobs. I hope his last days are peaceful.
good.
Not entirely. Apple, like them or not, have really had a mark in technology and brought new ideas and concepts to users. Smartphones wouldn't be like they are now, tablets would still be considered a failure, etc. Apple brought good competition that others followed and all benefited from.
