Not in North Dakota dood. Its already dropped 12+ inches of snow over the past 2 days and come January, its going to be deep in the megatives with 40mph winds and horrible wind chills. You can not survive here without a permanent structure and good heat systems.
you are speaking to a canadian
if people have been surviving for months in Antarctica in makeshift camps since the 20th century, they can hold a winter in North Dakota.
People are fucking pissed since they are tired of Corporations fucking over this planet. I think they have a good damn reason to do so. If they die, they die. If they want to die and if they know they will freeze to death in a mid western winter, good for them.
Its grossly reckless to let the people there just sit out there and die. This goes beyond the protest or any politics or ideals.

Welcome to Mini-Stalingrad, protesters. Considering you have only experienced a taste of North Dakota's winters, what with the two feet of snow and 30mph winds, we welcome you to our lovely state.

I love how you can report on something as ghoulish as the cops trying to end a protest by starving out the protesters, and you have only barely contained glee at the thought of all these filthy agitators being hungry, frozen, and miserable.
Yeah seriously what the hell, man. Back when I was trolling two or so threads ago (TBH I was irrational back at those times. Those views in no way reflect how I actually am, and am immeasurably ashamed of ever uttering them.), you had to clarify you weren't gung-ho about the protesters being harmed. Yet here you are, gloating about the possibility of them freezing to death. Yes, what I said was horrible and I take it back 100%. My real, non-edgy take on this is it's anouther example of profit > people, kind of the thing that's going to lead to our extinction. I've done my research on it, I've heard both sides, and I'm sorry, but I must stand on the side of the water protectors. Sorry.
Oh and as if the Sioux have NEVER dealt with such harsh weather back when they were living in Teepees.

Well when you have a Corporation who gives less than two shits about these protestors, a person freezing to death is pretty much the only message that would actually get everyone's attention. Its terrible that i have to say that.

The people in the arctic arent there for prolonged periods in tents bought at Scheels. They have permanent structures set up with adequate heating. The protesters have none of that. Their heat source is bonfires and sleeping bags.
I'd like to see anyone survive outside in the ND winter for months at a time with no real shelter

Kinda strange that the people who are pro-pipeline are just willing to let the protesters die a brutal death or be maimed by frostbite.

Do you not know of the heroic era of Antarctic exploration? Nobody was using permanent shelters.
After months spent in makeshift camps as the ice continued its northwards drift, the party took to the lifeboats to reach the inhospitable, uninhabited Elephant Island. Shackleton and five others then made an 800-mile (1,287 km) open-boat journey in the James Caird to reach South Georgia. From there, Shackleton was eventually able to mount a rescue of the men waiting on Elephant Island and bring them home without loss of life.
The protest should end with the governor signing off on the evacuation order. Its not the cops ending it, its North Dakota ending it.

Lol and do you not remember how many men have died exploring the arctic? Like Franklins expedition where over 100 men died in the venture?
What you failed to mention is that the Endurance mission still lost 3 men from the other ship in the expedition.

You're leaving out the fact that the men of Franklin's expedition died from scurvy, starvation, and lead poisoning. Yes cold was a contributing factor that worsened their illnesses, but had cold been their only problem, they would have survived.
Also, the men that died in Ernest Shackleton's Ross Sea party (not the endurance expedition), died because they collapsed from scurvy.
I don't think these protesters will be worrying about scurvy or lead poisoning.

Especially because this isn't some unorganized protest. There's camps filled with hundreds, possibly thousands depending on the camp where resources are shared between everybody and have actual supplies coming in from donations and whatnot. This isn't just dozens of random camps with a few people in them, it's one organized effort.

Since theres basically an embargo now going on, that could happen.
It doesnt matter either way, theyre getting evicted in the next few days for the reasons I just laid out.

Nobody is forcing them to protest. If they want to stay out there and be maimed by frostbite or die, it's their own stupid decision.

nobody is going to stop protesters from protesting or prevent people from donating supplies without going against the international covenant on civil and political rights

Lol nah. The protesters are on Federal land, (Army Core of Engineers specifically) and theyve issued them an eviction notice for the 5th of December IIRC.
Nobody is stopping them from protesting, theyre just telling them to do it somewhere else. Standing Rock and Ft Yates doesnt even want them there anymore. The protest has caused nothing but trouble for the reservation, especially since anyone wanting to go to Bismarck/Mandan now has to take a 30 minute detour with 1806 being closed.
