I can sort of see the potential in this but with some extra research i would find the Raspberry Pi more suitable. Of course like said for the casual gamers this thing is fun for angry birds and shit.
In the end if i had to recommend a device for gaming/browsing only, i would suggest a mini PC like the Raspberry Pi or the Pandora.

I wouldn't recommend the RPi for any kind of gaming, underpowered media center maybe.
But other than that not really.

Pandora's not exactly cheap though. It's more expensive than two PS3s.

I can play games fairly well on it, Doom and Quake are working like a charm, don't forget the endless emulators.
Can also connect a Wii mote to it, so with 4 wii motes and some Mario Party you got yourself a nice party set up
$100 vs $30 to buy a 360 controller and plug it into your computer
HUH

Except that Ouya can be plugged in any monitor/TV you want fairly easy.
I don't think i will move my monster of a PC all the time from room to room to play some games on a TV.
Will it be a great all-in-one solution for homebrew users seeking to run MAME arcade machines and emulators capable of running games from pretty much every console made before 2000 on their televisions? Definitely.

Now I can finally play a Legend of Zelda game! All I had on the 64 was Mario64 and MarioKart :(
I regret selling it at a flea market for the Wii, so so much.

Does it only have an HDMI port? That doesn't sound like any TV to me.
raspberry pi
What's the point of this post? That's a Raspberry Pi, not a OUYA.

The only reason out TV is still a old CRT one, is because we rarely see TV in our household.
BUT we have a couple of computer monitors with built-in speakers & HDMI in.

The only thing the Pi is good for nowadays, are dicking around with the GPIO pins over a ethernet connection.
There's alternatives that are slightly more expensive, but SO MUCH MORE powerful.
Reminds me of what everyone used to say whenever a new phone would come out talking about gaming potential (up to the iPhone).
Great. Another $100 device I can play Doom and Duke Nukem 3D on.
I guess people need to look at from a developer/hobbyist standpoint. This little box provides all the hardware you need to run old arcade games for example. It is cheap, does not require a lot of fiddling around and modification. If someone wanted to make their very own arcade machine/box they could with this. It would be a fairly simple system, get a arcade stick that is compatible with USB and bam that is it..put it in the arcade box and hook it up to the screen and done. You got a full-fledged arcade system.
You could even use this machine as a media center in a way. Have it connected to the internet/cloud storage system or LAN. I don't see this little box being used a a primary gaming system, people are going to make it for other purposes.

If only Samsung weren't cunts regarding information of their SoC's
Just spend a little more and get a Google TV box
TBH it looks shit. I don't think size matters that much now anyway and it's just a gimmick.
This just reminded me that my phone has an HDMI out, and can sync with a PS3 controller.
Excuse me while I go buy a PS3 controller and not this thing. :v:

Wouldn't it just be easier to bring the monitors to your computer???

Ooh, yuh.
Hell, if I had like a 4-man Android dev team, and had some developing experience, I would totally pump out some sort of party-game, like Mario Party, for this thing.
Could have potential to sell it.
Heck, if I can go further with the comparison, I'd make a free version that showed a 15-second ad before a mini-game, and a 5$ no-ad version. Who's going to be that dickhead at the party who would rather force people to watch a 15-second ad every 3-4 minutes instead of just forking over 5 bucks?

I always think of a sexy German woman going "ooOOOh Yahhh"

call me a skeptic but what does the OUYA do that my PC or my xbox can't do?

Be tiny and relatively soundless?
also the thing to note is that not once has the ouya ever been shown playing a game
take what you want from that
why did this thing get funded so hard
can I blame reddit?
dumb idea when it got funded, still a dumb idea

hey guys lets take apps that were designed for touchscreens, put it on a box that no one has seen running the games
then give you a controller instead
why they got 8.5 million i have no idea
I wouldn't expect this to become serious competition for anything
the point of smartphone apps and games are playing them at the bus stop or something
playing them on a screen will be sort of lackluster, and you'll realize there are much better consoles you could've spent your money on
i7 and 680GTXi7 and 680GTXi7 and 680GTXi7 and 680GTXi7 and 680GTX.
I wonder if it could run old N64 emulations..
I'm sold then.
