It's going to fail as a conse due to a lack of games. It's going to fail as a HTPC due to the hardware. It's just going to fail as an alternative to the current systems as it provides no benefits over them.
considering RPi runs XBMC well and is able to stream 5.1 1080p videos, this should be able to do it far better. I still think it's stupid since Raspberry Pi and computers exist. Also I'm fairly sure their controllers are probably just a generic 360 controller modified.
Wouldn't it just be easier to bring the monitors to your computer???
For party games it would be better to temporarily move the monitor into the living room. Already have a "android stick" strapped to the back of it.
I still love how all the initial backers from reddit thought they'd be playing Skyrim or Day Z on this thing
Ooh, yuh.
More like the Ooh, yuck
so can you just straight download and install apks from this thing?
Got funded because everyone thinks it's gonna be a hundred dollar console that can compete with current and next gen. Shit's gonna be hilarious when it comes out and just does games like angry birds or pretty much just phone games.
And every game released from 1970-1999
No it won't.
ITT: A lot of people who have no idea what they are talking about. It's fine to be skeptical of Ouya, but please stop talking out of your ass.
No it won't.
Lol, I run an ODROID-U2 with specs simililar to the OUYA already (for around the same price as the Ouya) and it really does run anything up to PS1 try again
Lol, I run an ODROID-U2 with specs simililar to the OUYA already (for around the same price as the Ouya) and it really does run anything up to PS1 try again
It won't do it out of the box, it'll be quite a while before anyone adapts existing or writes new emulators to support OUYA's controller.

How is it by the way? Looks pretty neat, may have to pick one up.
This isn't meant for you ~hardcore gamers~. Its made for people who enjoy the typical smartphone games, and who want to play shit like Angry Birds on their TV - whilst also being able to browse the web and watch videos.
ahahhaha anyone whose gaming expertise goes beyond ten minutes of flash games every time you go to the shitter is a ~hardcore gamer~ you heard it here folks!!!
It won't do it out of the box, it'll be quite a while before anyone adapts existing or writes new emulators to support OUYA's controller.
Android emulators already allow you to assign ingame buttons to external controllers So it's already done
The U2 is by far more powerful than the OUYA. How is it by the way? I want to see the OUYA do well because of it's open nature. Surely that grabs the interest of a few aspiring game devs? What I'd rather see is a portable console, though. Something like the OpenPandora, but not... $600.
It won't do it out of the box, it'll be quite a while before anyone adapts existing or writes new emulators to support OUYA's controller.
P.sure there's already utilities and emulator for exactly that in Android. And also under Linux. [editline]28th December 2012[/editline]
I want to see the OUYA do well because of it's open nature. And the obligatory duct-tape. OR just a psvita if there's jailbreak/whatever for it.
I hate how tiny it is I bet it wouldn't even need a fan if it was twice as big and it could probably be more hardware hacker friendly that way. Why do people insist on making tiny consoles that overheat and are prone to failure and shit? (PS2, PS3, Xbox360...) [editline]28th December 2012[/editline]
And every game released from 1970-1999
A little emulation machine isn't that interesting, people who play emulators tend to be tech savvy enough to have something that already does that and a hundred other things.
I'm not a fan of the Ouya itself, but what it tries to bring to the table can be a real game-changer. AKA good idea, poor execution.
ITT: A lot of people who have no idea what they are talking about. It's fine to be skeptical of Ouya, but please stop talking out of your ass.
Care to elaborate on what we have no idea on?

Besides, at-least with the OUYA it'll be easy to replace the original cooler with a big&beefy passive chipset cooler, Would need a new case, but that's a minor detail compared to it's size and complexity.
A little emulation machine isn't that interesting, people who play emulators tend to be tech savvy enough to have something that already does that and a hundred other things.
What if this is something better? Ever though of that?
Besides I haven't really seen any emulation (or any games, for that matter) running on that thing, who knows if it can actually run stuff like Neo Geo and 3D console roms?
I own a laptop, it's a thing that is self-contained and wouldn't need $250 worth of peripherals to be used on the go. I can't really imagine the size being excused by "bring it to your friends house!" unless it's marketed to a country where people don't own backpacks or something like that.
Android emulators already allow you to assign ingame buttons to external controllers So it's already done
Except they had to write their own API because they need 4 concurrent controllers via bluetooth, not to mention that the controllers have touchpads on them. It will be a while before emulators are up and running for OUYA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegra#Tegra_3 So IF the Nexus 7 can pull it off, then the OUYA is pretty much guaranteed to also being able to.
I own a laptop, it's a thing that is self-contained and wouldn't need $250 worth of peripherals to be used on the go. "i wish somebody would develop a cool open source development platform for indie developers!!" hey internet poster!! what are you typing that retarded-ass comment on? a computer. you can play games on your computer. done, mystery solved.
This isn't meant for you ~hardcore gamers~.
Also don't say "bring out the PC" because it's upstairs, it's unnecessary and I don't want to have to haul down my 15lb PC whenever my wife and kids that stay at home all day want to watch movies/play games.
Whilst on the other hand, buying a new device just for things you can already do on pretty much every single one of your devices already is completely necessary.
Good thing extended wires exist
Yeah sorry for not wanting to keep my PC idle so my family can watch games and play movies. Not to mention a 100ft wire running across my house. [editline]29th December 2012[/editline]
Perhaps you should buy a real pc rather than just a CPU and a GPU, because that seems to be all you can say.
I'm making a point saying I don't need some $1500 Home Theater PC when I have a more than capable machine sitting in my own room.
