Okay another guy going "you don't know what socialism is but I do, therefore I'm right". Explain to me then what it is and how it works according to you. And how could it work if people wouldn't want to contribute?
I'll explain once you tell me what parts of socialism are overturned by peoples greed? Seriously, I'm really curious here as to how it can ONLY work when people ALL work together.
You are a highly paranoid person.
Paranoia, in my mind, is a virtue.
Although you didn't mean it as a compliment, thanks.
You're pretty insane if you think totalitarianism by machines is a good idea. Asimov's book isn't even fucking optimistic. You are one fucked up person, awesomecake

I was about to reply and then realized you did it yourself for me. Good job.

I have no optimism left for this race. The only solutions left are the pessimistic ones.

Bounce the ball. Good.
I'm talking about the ideology pursuing to create a social order based on commonwealth, equality and production for use rather than profit. I guess you're talking about something else.

I don't see how, unless you're talking about my comment to boba fett. Boba fett's tinfoil hat paranoia doesn't represent the rest of the human race.
If you have no optimism left, then why are you still alive? You have to be pretty retarded to think the majority of people are inherently bad. Quite frankly, the stories you hear the media fling at you are, when compared to 7 billion people, is just a drop in the bucket.

what I'm talking about is socialism, a system of socialised public programmes and an economy that puts pressure on the private industry.
I don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

I am talking about for the very simple instance the 300 million people USA are (not) going to elect next year.
I am talking about Israel and Palestine, about Iran, about European economy in shambles.
And oh no, I am not lacking personal will to live nor optimism about my own future. I lack one considering the global futrure of this world and this species - and no, I don't see it fatally either - the future will just be rather... drastic, although certainly not fatal. Not anytime soon.

Being cautious is good. Being a paranoid twit is bad.
You're apparently the latter. Tone the persecution complex down, there's a reason why republicans are disliked these days and it's a very good one. They're bad at their jobs of looking out for your interests. Why the hell do you defend them so rigorously when they'll leave you behind in a breath? Paranoid? No, you're just someone who sees everyone hating your belief system and takes it personally because you can't look elsewhere for ideas.

Interesting definition, I took mine from a dictionary. Where did you take yours from?
Unless there's more than 1 thing that can be called socialism.

is this the same dictionary definition that says communism is a totalitarian system?

You remind me of someone who just screams socialism and blames any ills on that. Sure, you've read a definition of it, but it doesn't change how you're acting. Socialism is not a bad word, it is not a bad system, and it's not how you seem to portray it.
economies don't judge the ethical capabilities of society.
Hahaha, oh sure they do!
Hahaha, oh sure they do!
there are a lot of factors.
What was it everybody used to say about the United States? Look at what’s happening over there and you will see our future. Whatever Americans are doing now, we will be catching up with them in another 10 years or so. In popular culture or political rhetoric, America led the fashion and we tagged along behind.
Ahaha.
I must be reading this wrong because it seems to imply that lowering taxes will increase tax revenue
It's like the overly simplified Total War tax system, where if taxes are lowest the base amount that can be taxed goes up higher and if taxes are raised there reaches a point where income diminishes gradually over time.
is this the same dictionary definition that says communism is a totalitarian system?
So your definition is the only thing that can be called "socialism" and there are no other things that can be called that name. And you are the guy who tells the entire world which definition is right based on... thinking that you're right. Okay.
You remind me of someone who just screams socialism and blames any ills on that. Sure, you've read a definition of it, but it doesn't change how you're acting. Socialism is not a bad word, it is not a bad system, and it's not how you seem to portray it.
It is a bad system in reality. Perfect one in an ideal world. I'd love for it to work and make everyone happy. And yeah there are places it works but a lot depends on the people and their approach. You can't introduce it to a society of individualists and expect that nobody's gonna abuse it and everyone's gonna contribute for the greater good.

First off, let me state that I'm not actually a full Republican. I'm much more of a Libertarian, which is a combination of Economic Conservatism and Social Liberalism.
Second off, the reason I speak out against criticism of the Republican party is because, well, they're quite demonized here. I mean, it's quite obvious that your average Facepunch user is left-leaning and typically in favor of the Democratic party or its international counterparts, and, by this reasoning, they are typically against conservatism, as they should be, as that's what their ideology typically dictates. Don't get me wrong though, there's nothing wrong with that.
I feel that both parties have their obvious flaws and sources of extremism, but in general, I strongly feel that one party is not inherently better than the other. And while I am strongly against the concept of a two party system in the first place, I feel that the Republicans are somewhat unfairly represented on the Sensationalist Headlines section. From my standpoint, I see a lot of articles posted which are critical to the American right. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this, but I've noticed that any shortcomings of the American left are somehow exempt from being displayed here. All I'm asking for is for users to post more balanced topics.
There aren't any international counterparts to the democratic party, we're not that right wing :v:
Anyhow, the majority of the Republican party is in absolute shambles, so you can expect quite a few more posts about the latest batch of religious totalitarian nutjobs

Here's what I mean about threads not being exactly balanced. This is what happens when you search the keyword 'Republican" in the Sensationalist Headlines section.
Well post articles that are anti-democrat, it's not like they're perfect saints
Well post articles that are anti-democrat, it's not like they're perfect saints

After what happened to Glaber, I'm a bit hesitant.
Then don't post from Fox news, that's why everyone got miffed at him
After what happened to Glaber, I'm a bit hesitant.
The key is to find something anti-democrat that actually has more logical consistency than a xenophobic twelve year old with autism and schizophrenic fits of John Lennon and Stalin telling him to buy into the Liberal Media.
Like how Democrats pander to Republicans and give them whatever they want.
Or how some are harming the atheist community by giving religious nuts whatever bills they want to "prove" to them that they're religious.
Or talk about how the liberal atheist few in america have started to bolster an attitude of superiority over even the mildly conservative/religious and, in turn, are simply mirroring their Conservative counterparts, only with more progressive and arguably more reasonable ideas.
After what happened to Glaber, I'm a bit hesitant.
The problem is that alot of pro-conservative news sites tend to be a bit on the crazy side
You should do a write-up of the fast and furious ATF operation though, people need to know about that shit

I was actually planning on posting an article regarding Operation Fast and Furious a few months ago, but I decided against it for some reason.
Thanks for the advice though, I promise I'll only post articles with fair sources.
Man, these sensationalist anti-left threads never get old. Like ever.
I don't know about you guys but I'm tired of circlejerking over these sorts of threads.
these threads are always a bastion of conservative hatred
"yeah man this guy's opinion is totally the view of every conservative out there, let's hate them all"
America's turned towards socialist actions plenty of times in the past, especially during both World Wars and the Great Depression. Nothing wrong with that now.
So can someone give me a clear and simple definition of Socialism? I think the misuse of the word is making me doubt what I think it means.
