governor goblin just stop posting, you look like a total moron
I don't mind "big government" at all. It just needs proper restrictions and regulations just the same as anything else. "Big Government" is not some evil, horrible thing. Its the people in charge of it that are the problem. But that same problem can arise with a small government, bad people in charge abusing the populace. "Big Government" is not by any means an intrinsically bad system anymore than a limited government is.
I think you misread his post. He wasn't going on some right-wing tangent, he was simply stating his opinion.
So he doesn't like the idea of expansive government services and powers. Neither did Thomas Jefferson. They're opinions. Calm down.
That's quite an ignorant thing to say. Even though I'm pretty strong about my ideas, I understand that my opinion is just my opinion.
Republicans aren't bad people, they just have a different way of solving the same problem that the Democrats are trying to solve. Just because someone has a different opinion doesn't mean you should outright hate them.
GOP and dems are crazy, though GOP slightly more in certain situations, and less in others (but that's diminishing).
You're crazy if you think that.

Second of all, Thomas Jefferson had plenty of good ideas and views, but he also had a lot of frankly shit ones. Who he is does not make his views any more correct or less bad. Third, I never said anyone was on any kind of a tangent. In fact, I never made an indication who I was referring to, if anyone at all.
So your definition is the only thing that can be called "socialism" and there are no other things that can be called that name. And you are the guy who tells the entire world which definition is right based on... thinking that you're right. Okay.
It is a bad system in reality. Perfect one in an ideal world. I'd love for it to work and make everyone happy. And yeah there are places it works but a lot depends on the people and their approach. You can't introduce it to a society of individualists and expect that nobody's gonna abuse it and everyone's gonna contribute for the greater good.
Goverment owned schools, healthcare for the needy and goverment handouts for when you are flat broke improve the country as a whole and make it stronger.
Gonna be pretty hard for mister general Electric(Or any other big corp) to get employee's when everyone is retarded or sick.
Example: My dads job went bankrupt a while ago and we had no income for a while. The state gives us 70% of his salary so we can keep the house and everything while we look for a new job. Because you have a house and a stable situation you have time to find a new job and get off state support.
If we wouldnt have this, we would lose the house car etc and I have to drop out of university. My dad would be doing damage control and trying to get any crappy job to get money instead of trying to find something that is actually on his lvl and up his alley. Now what sounds more appealing?
I understand your problem with giving money to people who do nothing but lay in the couch all day, and hell we have problems with that to. In reality is is a very small percentage though and they are sniffed out by the state and either put to work or get cut from the funding programme.
Edit:
Just read that the USA actually has some sort of unemployment policy. Hey maybe you are more socialist then you think.

That's what I base my position about it on. If you have a very small percentage of those people and a very good, uncorrupted system, go ahead it's gonna work with some minor hiccups and a bit of sniffing.
Otherwise it's gonna be a disaster. And obviously it's not gonna work if your society is very individualistic.
It all looks great on paper but it assumes too many things. It can work, but you need some not so easy to get things first.
