Well, for the outset, a lot of sites are going to be blocked and a lot of them will stay blocked.
well shit
This is like the 10th thread we've had on this. :colbert: Yes, we've learned that UK internet service providers suck because many do not have plans to change, as well as a lot of smaller, rural ISPs elsewhere. Regardless, it'll be at least a few years before IPv6 is required. Have at it, then Chances are you'll fail, but this test is helpful. Also, trying to load http://ipv6.google.com/ can give you a good idea of if your router/ISP is supporting IPv6.
oh man oh god oh man OH GOD! How will I spend my days till it comes back? HOW?!
but i like IPv4 :( Oh well... Everything dies eventually, so i will accept this fact.
u will accpet that the internet is dead LOL ok
What the fuck, mine too! :iiam:
Mine too! Or maybe because I got a cheap-ass broadband deal. :smith:
Shit just got real.
Nothing bad is going to happen and over time we will fix the problems with IPv6 and everything should be fine. No need to overreact.
Nothing bad is going to happen and over time we will fix the problems with IPv6 and everything should be fine. No need to overreact.
Famous last words.
Nothing is wrong here :buddy:
i dont give a fuck if you guys run out of your ip's my internet connection is ridiculously fast like 100megas so this is not a concern to me. :colbert:
meanwhile, UK ISPs still refuse to acknowledge this problem even exists [editline]4th February 2011[/editline]
i dont give a fuck if you guys run out of your ip's my internet connection is ridiculously fast like 100megas so this is not a concern to me. :colbert:
yeah sure
Been needing to buy a new router for fucking ages
Fuck sake BT, get your thumbs out before we become isolated from the rest of the free world.

Facepunch took ages to load I was scared we ran out :ohdear:
Running out of IP's ain't gonna do piss if you already have an Internet connection. Consider comparing IP addresses with house addresses. If you already have one, you're not gonna lose your house because there's no more free lots where people can build new houses. Even if you have a dynamic IP, the ISP's already have loads of IP's they can give you so the issue is basically non-existant. Also ISP's aren't going to let all their customers suddenly lose Internet, everyone would be pissed off as hell, you can be pretty sure they are working their asses off right now trying to get everything ready, and in the meantime they are harvesting IPv4 addresses to keep until we need IPv6. [editline]4th February 2011[/editline]
Facepunch took ages to load I was scared we ran out :ohdear:
Not how it works, at all.
Also ISP's aren't going to let all their customers suddenly lose Internet, everyone would be pissed off as hell, you can be pretty sure they are working their asses off right now trying to get everything ready, and in the meantime they are harvesting IPv4 addresses to keep until we need IPv6.
UK ISPs are expressing no willingness or ethic to try and address this issue. We probably will be hit by a crisis at some point when the internet in the UK becomes largely isolated. Then Ofcom and the Government will get pissed at BT. Things only get done in this country when someone gets pissed.
How the fuck did they hand out 84 million addresses in one day?
Gentlemen... it has been a privilege posting with you tonight...
Uh, they ran out about 10-12 hours ago.
I hope in 10 years they make a movie about this day. Maybe a father trying to reunite with his son after losing access to Facebook. Beats 2012 anyway
2^128 addresses, we should be good for a year or so
IPv6 has exactly 79.228.162.514.264.337.593.543.950.336 times more addresses than v4. IPv4 took so many goddamn years to run out, I can barely imagine that IPv6 will ever run out of addresses. Nowadays we need a shit ton more addresses and I think that even if everytime your (also dynamic) ip changes and your old ip gets unrecoverably permanently discarded (which is bullshit, but for the sake of an argument lets assume it), there'd probably still be enough addresses to last for atleast a few tens of years. I think
Ipv6...
so with IPv6, it's hexadecimal? Does that mean I could color shit on my site with my IP address :v:?
No.
If the world population gets big enough to use all those IPs then we have bigger problems than the internet
We'd stripmine earth bare of any resources to support the computer manufacturing industry.
I can survive.
