She had to be one of the older people in the entire world. I wonder what her rank was. Top 1% for sure. 105 is OLD. Looked it up. Oldest living is 115. Top ten have 4 114 year olds and 5 113 year olds. For what its worth.
And not to mention 122 Semi-ninja'd damnit
Sure is a nice depressing way to start the day.
I don't blame her, I'm just about tired of waiting to die too and I'm 85 years younger than she is
"waaahh I'm a young adult who's not sure what he wants to do in life and thinks that's a unique situation oh and I like pretending to be depressed to get attention" If you want do die then do it mother fucker I dare you. I'll be living my ass off even after having suffered through Burkkitt's Lymphoma, which I can assure you brings on legitimate suicidal feelings and legitimate hopelessness and depression. Not to mention limit-stressing levels of physical suffering, which is the only thing that makes you forget about the horrible life threatening cancer and the next brutalizing round of intensive chemotherapy. If you don't want my advice fuck you I'm gonna give it to you anyway to do with what you will: Live life to its fullest and learn to enjoy every minute of every day and don't let anxieties hold you back in any way, because you never know when something unthinkable might happen to you, and cause your whole world to come crumbling down. Don't think you're invincible, immune, or special, because you're not, neither am I, or anyone else on the planet, your clock, like all of ours, is ticking, and life isn't about how much time you have, its about what you do with the time you're given.
Why put yourself through that at your last moments, just use a gun, or overdose or something.
Guns aren't necessarily easy to get hold of, death by OD's is more often than not a long, slow and painful process.
Guns aren't necessarily easy to get hold of, death by OD's is more often than not a long, slow and painful process.
And that's assuming you even do it right.
You also didn't live through two World Wars and what would basically amount to mass murder. She has known only death through life, and was wondering if it was ever going to die.
I'm going to recommend you read this book, it may enlighten you to a degree.
Hanging doesn't necessarily cause suffering. That's only if you fuck it up. If you do it right it will either snap your neck instantly or tear the arteries in your neck causing instant death.
Unless the drop is greater than four feet, you're going to spend quite a while asphyxiating to death as your skull slowly presses on your brain. Only drop greater than four or more feet are enough to break your neck.
Not to downplay what you've personally been through, but you don't need to have had cancer to be depressed. Yes, a lot of people say they're depressed for attention, but why do you think at least some of those people want attention? And for those people who are legitimately depressed, it's literally addictive.
I know he hasn't yet because his attitude is very telling, it's the attitude of inexperience and ignorance combining. [editline]21st March 2012[/editline] I know he isn't legitimately depressed because if he was he would NOT be posting on forums. He likely wouldn't even get out of bed if he was. He would be such an emotional wreck that his health would truly be at risk. [editline]21st March 2012[/editline] Young adult blues =/= depressed
I don't need any life advice. I have the resources to kill myself whenever I want but I haven't done it and don't plan on doing it any time soon.
so you're just an attention whore then good to know
Not sure why people find this depressing
This is what Jeanne Calment looked like when she turned 121. Honestly I would not like seeing anyone like this. She looks more dead than alive.
ITT: Elders are poor suffering victims of age kept alive against their will by the scoundrel youth.
They already caught her once, which they should have known that she didn't want to go through it anymore. I get what you're saying, but sometimes people just need to move on and let them do what they want to do, what will make them happy.
Kind of tricky to achieve happiness while you're dead. She needed help, as in counselling, not a boost up to the rafters you ignorant shit.
Hanging doesn't necessarily cause suffering. That's only if you fuck it up. Your neck only snaps if you drop from about a metre or so, from a chair you can be kicking and struggling for up to 15 minutes.
This may seem weird to everyone here... But if you think about it, she's probably Christian, so I'm sure it makes (made) some kind of sense to her.
I don't see why we can put animals out of their misery but when it comes to humans just let em rot.
Kind of tricky to achieve happiness while you're dead. She needed help, as in counselling, not a boost up to the rafters you ignorant shit.
chill man, no need to call names
I actually expected a 30 year old or something... but a 105 year old, she's already lived her life, so I guess waiting to die must really suck. You know you're going to die soon, you have no idea when. [editline]21st March 2012[/editline]
This is what Jeanne Calment looked like when she turned 121.
I don't understand why someone would want to commit suicide in a way that lets you suffer before you die. Why put yourself through that at your last moments, just use a gun, or overdose or something. Now don't get me wrong I'm 0 against suicide, of course there are exceptions, this being one. She was an old woman on the verge of dying, she was in the right to decide that, I'm sure she made amends and everything beforehand.
I doubt you feel much to be honest as the body would go unconscious due to lack of oxygen before you fully died. I don't think it'd be nice anyway though. Unless you break your neck I dunno about that, I wouldn't have though a clothes line would be strong enough to hold a body but that's not something I've really researched.
Just wondering, if you see someone attempting suicide and you don't try and stop them, does it count as manslaughter?
Just wondering, if you see someone attempting suicide and you don't try and stop them, does it count as manslaughter?
I think it counts as negligence.
I like how she got tired of waiting for Death to get his slow ass over to her and got up and went to him herself. She is dead, but she died like a man.
Imagine if she were to find out that she couldn't kill herself either...

Never know if you miss a vital and end up bleeding to death on the ground with a hole in the back of your head instead of an instant death, or worse.
Why are people taking this seriously? It's from the fucking sun.
My great-grandma did the same thing by refusing to eat. She wanted to see her husband again.
Was expecting a teen but, heh, at 105 I'd probably be really bored of life too. I think that at that age if you haven't gone insane you're fairly able to make wise enough decisions.
my 104 year old great grandmother (who just passed in january) has been yelling at us for years for keeping her alive. for the past decade she's been getting drunk as shit every day like a bro. wake up at noon, use her walker to hobble into the kitchen, pour 2 glasses of wine. chugged them. sat down. went to bed at 5:00. wash, rinse, repeat every day for a decade. turns out the wine was keeping her alive. so she stopped drinking the red wine rip granny
We'll probably have cured aging in about 20 years and after that I hope things like this become a thing of the past.
