People won't be committing suicide if they weren't so depressed.
People won't be committing suicide if they weren't so depressed.
Did you even read the article ?
It's a century old woman who was just so tired and could just do so little of her time she just decided to end it now instead of having to wait until she's so weak her heart just stops beating.
Even if she was diagnosed with depression it's still more of out of boredom than out of real depression that she did this.

Medical discovery of the century
Unless the drop is greater than four feet, you're going to spend quite a while asphyxiating to death as your skull slowly presses on your brain. Only drop greater than four or more feet are enough to break your neck.
Was about to comment too on that. Because if your neck doesn't brake from hanging, you will suffocate to death. Very agonizing.
Asphyxiation was probably the initial idea of a hanging anyway when they first put the idea to practice.

This is what Jeanne Calment looked like when she turned 121. Honestly I would not like seeing anyone like this. She looks more dead than alive.
People shouldn't live past 100, I don't want to sound cruel but old people who do nothing all day are a drain on society and provide nothing useful.

So 90% of all OAP's?

As opposed to you who boosts society to another level with incredibly intelligent opinions.
I just think he should stop wasting his time and energy while he's still young, and save it for a mega-dose of reality, because he will eventually experience one, one way or another.
I know he hasn't yet because his attitude is very telling, it's the attitude of inexperience and ignorance combining.

I know he isn't legitimately depressed because if he was he would NOT be posting on forums.
He likely wouldn't even get out of bed if he was. He would be such an emotional wreck that his health would truly be at risk.

Young adult blues =/= depressed
you're an idiot, cancerboy

Oh god here come the "cull the OAP's" people...
People shouldn't live past 100, I don't want to sound cruel but old people who do nothing all day are a drain on society and provide nothing useful.
Yeah we should totally try to emulate that movie Logan's Run
So now I sound evil?
I don't understand why someone would want to commit suicide in a way that lets you suffer before you die. Why put yourself through that at your last moments, just use a gun, or overdose or something. Now don't get me wrong I'm %100 against suicide, of course there are exceptions, this being one. She was an old woman on the verge of dying, she was in the right to decide that, I'm sure she made amends and everything beforehand.
Using a gun isn't always fatal. Overdosing on most types of medicine is extremely unpleasant and might not even be fatal. No suicide is 100% painless. And if you're "100% against suicide", don't suddenly backpedal.
We'll probably have cured aging in about 20 years and after that I hope things like this become a thing of the past.
[editline]21st March 2012[/editline]
I've heard so many stories of people living into their hundreds by drinking some alcohol every day, I'm so going to have to start having my glass a day again.
Curing aging in 20 years? Eternal optimist. As it is, the body can only regenerate but so much until it runs out of material to replicate cells with, and some types of cells can't regenerate pretty much at all (mainly those related to nerves). I doubt anyone will master the genes behind the regeneration of cells any time soon, especially since the causes behind aging still aren't entirely known.
I don't see the problem here, if I was 105, I would be tired of life. I literally would not be able to enjoy life to the fullest anymore.
I say it should be one of your highest priorities to live life as full as possible and as long as possible. Death is an absolute nothingness, consciousness is gone for an eternity. So even if your life is absolute shit it's still better than death.

Except there are plenty of people who believe in an afterlife. There is no definite proof, so some look at death differently.

It doesn't matter what you believe, the outcome is still the same. Although I do appreciate the belief of an afterlife as something to comfort people about death, and maybe inspire them to live life better. I myself find death to be the scariest fucking thing to think about, to truly think about. A lot of people kind of disregard it because it's going to eventually happen or they learn to accept it. I myself don't see how someone could accept total oblivion, complete and utter nothingness, there is no seeing how death is, everything ends, there is not even blackness. It's hard for the mind to comprehend death because there is nothing to comprehend, when you die there is an absolute nothing. An afterlife seems scientifically impossible, it seems irrational and extremely unlikely. Your brain is a very powerful computer, when a computer dies it's "essence" or memories or "soul" doesn't go off and compute somewhere else. It's just gone, it's done it's job, experience as much as you can before you burn out.

lol, you're contradicting yourself
lol, you're contradicting yourself
I am sorry but how, I am pretty tired right now and I would appreciate if you could tell me so I can improve upon myself the next time I try to explain my opinion. I have a hard time explaining my opinions sometimes.
When that time comes for me I will just do something radical.
Like jump off a plane without a parachute or jump a car off a cliff somewhere it can't hurt anybody.
you're an idiot, cancerboy
Ouch that hurt.
Cancerboy? Wow I must have offended a very big man, I am sorry, please don't slap me on my bald head or pull out my IV, I'll be good I promise.

I find death to be peaceful.
In the cases of good lives, you have the end to a good book.
In the cases of lives lived in anguish, you have closure. An end to the suffering.

Well that's the manhatten beach project's statement any way, curing aging by 2029.
