• Youtube TOS changes, basically allows no one to make money off their channels

I wonder if something like a decentrailized video service could ever take off. One where there isn't exactly one person or group of people corporate representatives can come up to and say, "So, I've got this wad of cash in one hand and a phone to our team of angry lawyers in the other and I'd like for you to choose which one I'm gonna hand you." Because YouTube has been in corporate pockets for years now.
Why the fuck do advertisers care what their adverts are plastered over? You got your ad out isn't that enough? Or am I mistaken?
Because the old retar- wait is retard not advertiser friendly? Because the old jerk idiot meanie faces :frown: running these companies think youtube is TV and thus want to dictate how their ads are used. This is also why they take down any video that uses their content even if for review or commentary.

If this is true, then what are all these claims of people's videos suddenly getting automatically de-monetized? If there wasn't actually any change made, then why are people with swear words in their titles getting automatically hit? Are they lying? Mistaken? I'm hearing two different things now so I really gotta wonder which is which.
That's not at all what he implied. Are you being dense on purpose? I usually don't have problems with your posts.
He seems as if he's implying that people are going to stop going to Youtube over this. Sorry I've just been pent up lately.
Time for movie review people get EVEN MORE shafted.
He seems as if he's implying that people are going to stop going to Youtube over this. Sorry I've just been pent up lately.
He said "YouTube as we know it," not simply "YouTube."
youtube can finally become the christian safe-space it was meant to be
Dave Jones of EEVBlog got hit by this a few weeks ago presumably because his video had "911" in the title. He tested it with title of this video on his 2nd channel but nothing happened, but that might be due to channel size (32k vs 370k subs) but who knows.
I think everyone here is missing a key phrase from the new TOS: If the video does contain inappropriate content, the context is usually newsworthy or comedic and the creator’s intent is to inform or entertain (not offend or shock). This really isn't banning curse words in your favorite comic's channel. This is a continuation of YouTube's attempts to push away wildly inappropriate content. Porn thumbnails, clickbait offensive titles, shock content - that's what they're preventing from being monetized. iDubbbz's tweets make me think this isn't quite as insane as it sounds - there's a specific stipulation that says inappropriate content in the name of comedy and entertainment is permitted. Context is important. This isn't that bad, digging in to it, and the only real, popular YouTuber (and not clickbait trash) I can think of who might have some trouble is Filthy Frank or other "shock" YouTubers.
I'm sorry I'm not okay with wildly vague and empty TOS clauses.
I'm sorry I'm not okay with wildly vague and empty TOS clauses.
Yeah thats horribly subjective.
I want YouTube to fuck itself so catastrophically that people are given no choice but to create an alternative that addresses all of its horrible, horrible flaws. But, that will never happen, unfortunately.
Theres Dailymotion and Vimeo.

The copyright strike system drama got a blowout as well so i might say that this is the final push for some people. Sadly there are not many alternative platforms with the same powerful advertising system.
I wonder, when will we get a site that allows anything that's not illegal to be posted? a few have tried in the past but because of advertising they always backpedal.
I guess this only applies to English swearing, so time to start swearing in one's native language?
There is a solution to this, and it's really kind of staring us all in the face. If all the major, big-earner channels knocked their skulls together and said "Let's ditch this place and make a new platform". If even just the top 10 channels funnelled just 10% of their earnings each into hiring programmers and webspace, and declared publicly that "We're leaving", it would take a huge chunk out of YouTube's viewer and earning figures. It could be such a game-changer. The biggest problem with YouTube has always been the monopoly it holds. There's no real competing service.
Theres Dailymotion and Vimeo.
Dailymotion and Vimeo don't compare in any way other than being video hosts. They don't share the same level of community interaction and customisability that YouTube has, not to mention both of these sites are pretty hideously designed (especially Dailymotion).
Getting rid of cancerous channels is one thing, and I don't know how much I'd mind if YouTube just shot them down manually. The problem is that these changes affect people for doing nothing but making the kind of content that made YouTube so successful. Phillip Defranco for example is a news channel, he covers news and he competes with massive news networks and makes YouTube bank. But he says bad words and covers bad news so that's bad. If this road is gone down YouTube will slowly die as old school YouTubers grow older and retire and new YouTubers like myself are less incentivised to post on YouTube because there's no way of making money off of it. What could very well happen is massive people like Philly D and PewDiePie with an insider understanding of the system and tons of capital might look into their own more content creator friendly system and I'd be all down for that because YouTube as a monopoly is showing to be dangerous.
Nerd3 covered what the hell is going on with youtube and has taken a different position than everyone else, seems like everyone is being a bit too jumpy at a policy that has already existed. Here is his explanation from his patreon https://www.patreon.com/posts/youtube-sky-is-6658870 That being said apparently the creator of 'Foamy the Squirrel' has had some of his videos de-monetized. But I guess we will just have to wait and see. Expect plenty of false positives.
Dan is being a bit of an arse about this because he doesn't seem to understand that while he might be making game videos, somebody else running a news channel has a lot less of a chance of being able to continue doing what she/he's doing
